I was pretty salty with being killed for targeting the CORRECT player. Feels bad man. I spent the whole game riding the line between lynchable and unlynchable only to be killed by a PGO. Didn't reward good play.
The only one to figure out my breadcrumbs was D_V. Luckily this led to nacho being lynched, but apparently that wasn't enough.
@Iso: How long did it take you to work through a role-madness game this large??? The setup was very fun, even if it felt a little scum-sided at times. Knowing that the town had a genie on their team helps that, though.
According to the review QuickTopic, it took approximately 3 weeks from me posting my setup rough draft to completion of review. It probably took me a night or two of working on roles at the job I had at the time to come up with the rough draft. So I guess about a month altogether?

"Guys. GUYS! I saw him do it! He tried to kill me! It's gotta be him!" screamed D_V, pointing at Huntzilla.
"Well, good enough for me."
"Yeah, that's gotta be it."
"But guys, I-"
The three remaining non-Huntzilla participants wasted no time in dismembering Huntzilla. But no horseman specter flew from his body.
"I uh, may not have seen anything after all."
"What?!? You!-"
"Actually, no. Me."
shadowlancerx stepped forward, suddenly surrounded by a strange, red aura.
"The kid?"
"Are you ******* serious? Get him!" D_V charged at shadow, but was batted away by the fearsome aura of power emanating from shadow. Though he was but a small boy, he stood with the stature of a viking and the ferocity of a dragon, ancient samurai armor superimposed over his figure, which was now riding a red horse.
"I thank you for your assistance. However, you are no longer of use to me," shadow stated to tomsloger. He raised a katana and charged at him on his horse, slicing tom in half.
"And you...thank you for quite literally handing me this victory." shadow leapt off of his horse and beat D_V to death with one of Huntzilla's dismembered legs.
Apocalypse applauded. "Well done, boy! You've done me proud. As for your brethren..." Apocalypse snapped a finger, and three horseman specters stepped out of the abyss that had suddenly been conjured behind him. "...they'll be with us shortly."
shadowlancerx smiled for the first time in years. He had finally found acceptance; a place he belonged. He was the herald of the endtimes, the harbinger of Apocalypse, the horseman War.
The end of days had come. The sun would be blotted out with a moon stained with the blood of his foes. This was Armageddon. This was...Apocalypse.

Ok after seeing the set up I can officially say Nacho's ability was the most busted of them all.
That is an ability you give to a SK not a mafia member.
The odds of someone being targeted by any of the two abilities on the town side is so low. All it does is punish information roles, that are suspect of Nacho furthermore it also kills people that might try and night kill him unless two abilities are used on him at the same time. Furthermore it punishes information roles that might be semi curious about a player and then die for using their role correctly.
Also since some made the comments. You'd have to be high to even think Toms power level is even remotely the same. Tom can give abilities to scum and he did. Or it can go to a much lazier player and not even do that much.
As I mentioned, the setup was mostly randomized. The only role that couldn't be scum was tom's, because that would have just been really dumb and OP. Nacho rolled The Rebel, and then he rolled Death, and Cantrip originally rolled scum, too, but I decided that was too broken with Nacho's role already on the scum team - so Cantrip was placed in a town slot. I designed Wheat's role with Pestilence in mind and was overjoyed when not only did they get paired up, but Wheat randomed into the Pestilence role he had been begging me to be for 4 years, now. Also, Silver's role was interesting, as it was intended as a French Vanilla no matter what team he ended up on - but had he ended up mafia, his role would have enabled him to freely edit any of his posts without modkill. Something something scum look to the past to get dirt on townies, town look to the future when all of the scum are dead. Or something philosophical like that.
Yes, the scum team was stacked. But so was the town. In a setup where the town had two Vig shots and nearly literally anything tom could imagine, this was an uphill battle for the scum, especially when they lost two of their members on Day 1. Unfortunately for the town, tom was pocketed hard by shadow, and D_V's endgame gambit shot everyone in the foot. Also unfortunate for the town was osi's modkill, and the fact that both AG and Zionite solo targeted Nacho (who was basically the most insane Godfather role ever). There was a lot of discussion on whether or not Deathtouch was overpowered, and originally, it worked for anybody who targeted him, but my reviewers and I agreed that that could literally end the game on Night 1 ("Hey everyone, target me because toNight if you can because great things will happen!") and should be nerfed - but being Death, his ability HAD to have some kind of killing aspect, and giving him a repeatable kill outside of the Nightkill that he could use on anyone he wanted was definitely not the way to do it. We were stumped for any sort of alternative that we could give him, so Death ended up keeping the nerfed version of Deathtouch. I thought about using a rechargeable one-shot kill, but again, giving the scum a repeatable kill seemed like a poor choice in a setup where Pestilence had Afflict, and there were two other Vig shots and a Bomb floating around.
I find it interesting that osi's modkill not happening would have likely resulted in the town having another Day, but ultimately, them's the breaks. I could have ended the Day there but I wanted to at least give the town a chance to redeem their lost number by getting another shot at lynching scum, even though osi almost certainly would have been the lynch. I also was busy at the time the modkill occurred and couldn't really abruptly end the Day, so that was admittedly also partially the reason why the Day continued afterwards.
When tom gave shadow the pardon, I strongly considered allowing it to interact with Nacho's Hated ability in a way favorable to the scum but in the interest of preventing a scum blowout due to voting shenanigans, I felt it would be unfair to the town if I permitted that interaction (even though it was a member of the town who initially enabled its existence) and thus ruled against the dumb stuff.
Initially, I also was going to allow tom the ability to grant a Revive shot but later down the line decided against it, partially because I had told Deathtouched players that they had been killed by that ability, and partially because it had the potential to stagnate the game, which was one thing I did not want tom's role to be able to do - hence why I also ruled that tom could only grant any ability only once towards the end of the game.
I probably have some other thoughts I'm forgetting, but if you guys have any questions, feel free to let me know.
Also, kpaca targeted nobody on Night 1, and I was amazed that the information that osi was Janken'd on Night 1 didn't actually get discussed in any capacity.

I think the setup was ~probably a little scum sided but not terrible? I'm pretty sure we only lost because we strung ourselves up twice three times and got unlucky with people targeting Nacho. But we also got really lucky with the D1 vig shot + lynch and tom living as long as he did and it still felt like we were behind...
A one-shot extra night kill with strongman + ninja modifiers probably isn't exactly what you were after since it isn't repeatable? or give him an extra kill that gains charges when horsemen die? Just spitballing. Maybe just give him ninja+strongman when doing the NK so only Zionite can catch him?
Tom's role probably just needs to be a regular inventor, too, in my opinion, but the inventions could be on the strong side.
Thanks for hosting! I'd probably /in for this again to be honest.
I didn't want Death's horseman ability to interfere with information or protective roles, since there was no guarantee they wouldn't all end up on one side. And then you just have a Goon, which is really dumb, because come on. It's Death.
The thing with tom's role is that whenever I see Inventors, all of their shots rarely get used and often are circumstantially obsolete. tom's role was based on Fairly Oddparents Mafia on MafiaScum (which I played in as a gimmick), and the Seppel role in Cyan's Impossible Mafia. I wanted whoever got the role to be able to think on the fly and determine what abilities would be the most beneficial to hand out at any point in time. It also tests my mettle as a reviewer, to decide whether or not an ability would fundamentally break the balance of the game.

Well there were at least 3 info roles (Zionite, D_V, and Shadow), the chances of them all being randed to scum are pretty low.
And if it does happen, well, town has no info roles then and most the extra kills ~probably~ land on town, so...
Like I said, just spitballing. I've only thought about it for, like, ten minutes and you probably spent way longer than that and had reasons for your decisions.

I mean, I totally understand balance-wise how the Death ability works and why it fits well. I'm still butt-hurt for losing/dying and finally being right, haha.
"I thank you for your assistance. However, you are no longer of use to me," shadow stated to tomsloger. He raised a katana and charged at him on his horse,
slicing tom in half.
Iso: I feel like you're going to have fun with this role. Restrictions breed creativity, as they say.
tom: Can I attach conditions?
Example:
I give osi the ability to grant a bulletproof vest that only works if the wearer abides by a posting restriction?
Mine is an evil laugh
Iso: Yes.
Someone offers you a briefcase in exchange for your own briefcase. Do you take it?
tom: **** no I don't take it.
Also can I give shadow a 1-shot governor but to use it he gains the posting restriction that every post must contain the word "kerfuffle"?
Iso: When you say Governor, do you mean the type that can overturn a lynch or the kind that can push a lynch elsewhere?
tom: Prefer the latter, but former is great
Kinda thought pushing the lynch elsewhere would vaguely count as a killing role, but if I can give that out its fantastic
ok well 1-shot governor to shadow either way
must use the word "kerfuffle"
prefer the "push lynch elsewhere" or even to the second leading vote getter
if not allowed just a pardon is fine
if none of those is allowed im giving nacho that bulletproof vest we talked requiring him to act stoned :420:
Iso: You were successful.
shadowlancerx has gained a 1-shot use of the following ability:
"Once per game during the Day, if a player would be lynched, you may prevent that player from being lynched for the rest of the Day by submitting your choice to me during Twilight. The deadline will be extended by a week, and the votecount will be reset. You may only use this ability on a Day when every post of yours contains the word 'kerfuffle'."
tom: nice
can i give manders' role from disinheritance (take away someones ability to kill anyone)?
Iso: Can you post the full role text that you want to incorporate here?
tom: (Quoting Azrael) Target player loses the ability to kill, so long as you are alive. If no mafia players are able to perform a kill, you (town) win the game.
dont really need the "win the game" part.
Iso: "Target player loses the ability to kill so long as you are alive. This does not affect factional abilities." is the only way I would allow that ability.
tom: makes sense
Can I give an extra life?
(next time you would die, you dont instead)
Iso: "The next time you would die, you will appear in the dead players list for the entirety of the next full Day/Night cycle, but without your role or alignment being revealed. You can not post in this time frame, nor can you take actions. You will be revived at the start of the following Day."
tom: final question:
can i give a day ability to take a dead players role?
either permanently/as long as you keep up a posting restriction, or for a cycle
basically i want to have silver's (claimed) role tomorrow for twilight even if silver dies, with a backup of taking mine/osi's or something if not
or maybe just a revive that only lasts for the rest of the day and a single night phase.
Iso: If you take a dead player's role in this game, you will lose your own in that timeframe.
Instead of a temp revive, what about a delayed death?
tom: i kind of like taking the dead players role and then getting yours back when you stop using the word "indubitably" in every post
can i make that ability with day activation?
Iso: You can't target members of the mafia in this way, but sure - just be aware that it will permanently be deactivated when they stop using the word.
tom: hope i dont torpedo the game by including these posting restrictions...
gonna go with day activation to take a dead towny's role as long as you keep using the word "indubitably" in every post.
targeting zionite
i think you approved every part of that but the day activation part could be super important
Iso: Sure.
tomsloger: hmmm
second guessing myself
How would a revive work?
1 Would a revived player have their role?
2 How long could they stay?
3 Can i give them (or me) a posting restriction?
Iso: 1. In what context?
2. Depends on what you want them to be able to do.
3. Them, yes. Yourself, no. You can not target yourself.
tomsloger: nah stick with the original in #28
Iso: Also, I thought about it some more, and I've decided to decline reviving roles.
tom: damn
makes sense though
Iso: Extra lives are still fine though
tom: would they apply the night i give them?
like, target shadow tonight and he gets shot. what happens?
also lover interaction.
if i give it to silver, obviously it would protect him if rodemy got shot
but if he got shot, would rodemy still die?
(purely theoretical of course, not asking for confirmation they are lovers)
Iso: * Yes
* He lives
* I will not answer a question about another player's role.
tom: fair.
can i make a suicidal role?
like, die when you activate it
Iso: To clarify: If you give a player an extra life and they are killed, they will be considered "killed" for the sake of any role interactions.
No, suicide is a killing role.
tom: gonna go with
extra life to DV
if i can make it kill only (aka doesnt stop a lynch) ill do it, but meh.
Iso: Sure, it can be a kill-only extra life. He won't flip when he dies for reasons that I hope are obvious.
Successful resolution.
I'm gonna go ahead and say that granting multiple extra lives could cause a deadlock in the gamestate, so, let's just go ahead and say you can't grant abilities you've granted before.
Whatcha got for me?
tom: hrm
can i give shadow a one shot to make his vote count for 1.5 votes?
id like him to win a final 2, but not be able to draw a final 4
that might be dumb i need some sleep.
maybe an activatable mirror that reflects any actions taken on him for a single night back on whoever performed them?
Iso: Veto on the mirror.
There can't be a final 2.
tom: give shadow a 1 shot jailkeep?
no thats bad.
if its huntz, we win.
if its shadow, he kills dv which doesnt work and dv clears huntz
if its dv...
***** i lose to dv now.
if dv kills me he wins easily.
but he might no kill and claim he used his extra life.
which means shadow JKing him would stop the kill for f3?
ill try to think of a way to beat him even without him getting fancy.
lock in the Jailkeep for now.
Iso: shadow will obtain a 1-shot use of the following ability:
"Once per Night, you may target a player. All abilities that player uses will fail on the Night that you target them. All abilities that target that player will fail on the Night that you target them."
Confirm?
tom: Just to make aure:
Would that stop a factional kill?

I was rooting for the scum to win, sorry town! It was exciting to see what everyone was thinking/planning and see how it panned out. MAde me want to play another mafia game, which I probably shouldn't do but YOLO
I had a lot of fun adding little apocalyptic-themed comments to vote counts, and moreso personifying the event of an apocalypse as the actual character portrayed by Iso who ran the game (you'll see capital 'A's in my flavor). The challenge was the first thing I always wanted to write was always too indicative regarding inside information about the game state, which was a shame because I thought some of them would've been really cool but my number one goal was keep the theme of the game strong while also not contributing anything substantial to it. I had to keep it simple, I wanted to do something creative but I've been having too much trouble keeping up with my existing writing projects as it was, if I started writing blocks of flavor every post count (like I did for portal 2 mafia sometimes) I probably wouldn't ended up putting myself in a bad spot where I couldn't deliver
It all worked out though, I don't think any of it really impacted the game except adding to the atmosphere~ and it was never too difficult to come up, even when I was in a bind and had to crank out a vote count quickly. It was fun, too.
I hope everyone had a good time; I certainly enjoyed following along! My only regret is not pestering Iso about a spectator chat after night 2 or something, I would've also enjoyed seeing people's thoughts about the game as it kept going and maybe a little interaction myself Oh well. Next time (or something).
There were only two names that I actively checked heritage on.
The rest I thought that while passible it would probably challenge stereotypes since even a native born can end up with a different type of name ;P and would be more fun like that.

The PGO was so mean. Thought that with 2 scum dead day 1 I was safe holding my shot till N2 and then I picked the wrong person between Nacho and Tom to doc.
Dang, between you and Zionite, I really was much more lucky than I thought, GG, I'm impressed.

The only one to figure out my breadcrumbs was D_V. Luckily this led to nacho being lynched, but apparently that wasn't enough.
GG shadow; if I hadn't died you were next.
I was told whether they had a killing ability or not. So I got a guilty basically for Nacho but couldn't tell anyone.
According to the review QuickTopic, it took approximately 3 weeks from me posting my setup rough draft to completion of review. It probably took me a night or two of working on roles at the job I had at the time to come up with the rough draft. So I guess about a month altogether?

Game Over.

Also, kpaca targeted nobody on Night 1, and I was amazed that the information that osi was Janken'd on Night 1 didn't actually get discussed in any capacity.

twicethree times and got unlucky with people targeting Nacho. But we also got really lucky with the D1 vig shot + lynch and tom living as long as he did and it still felt like we were behind...A one-shot extra night kill with strongman + ninja modifiers probably isn't exactly what you were after since it isn't repeatable? or give him an extra kill that gains charges when horsemen die? Just spitballing. Maybe just give him ninja+strongman when doing the NK so only Zionite can catch him?
Tom's role probably just needs to be a regular inventor, too, in my opinion, but the inventions could be on the strong side.
Thanks for hosting! I'd probably /in for this again to be honest.
It also tests my mettle as a reviewer, to decide whether or not an ability would fundamentally break the balance of the game.

sure
Iso: * Yes
* He lives
If yes, confirmed
Iso: Yes
Successed

I'm happily surprised that Shadow was scum.

Those flavour names bothered me more than any of the rest weird unbalanced stuff in this game.
There were only two names that I actively checked heritage on.
The rest I thought that while passible it would probably challenge stereotypes since even a native born can end up with a different type of name ;P and would be more fun like that.

I could say something about those abominations you used as a Japanese, Russian and Finnish name... >_>

For those wondering, shadow's role name in Japanese roughly translates to "I won't say" (As in 'Name: I won't say')
¤.†.¤ The OceanLink ¤.†.¤
Actually, it's "I won't do, I don't speak" in a polite language.

Thank you everyone for a great game! Thank you Iso and Jey for hosting.
Never suspected shadow.
