Calling all hosts! With Iso's Four Horsemen kicking off, we have finally worked our way through the previous PCQ. This means we need more Specialty games!
Anyone interested in hosting a Specialty-level game should sign up in this very thread and public discussion is encouraged. These games will be judged by the Mafia Council, and potentially some of the other members of the shadowy FTQ cabal, with the winning three going forward to being the next Specialty games played.
Rules
Each entrant must sign up in this thread, proving some key information about their game:
Game Name
Host(s)
Reviewer(s)
Current stage of development
Number of Players
Deadline Lengths
A technical overview of the game (Central mechanics, Complexity, aims, etc.)
A flavour overview
Each Entrant should use only one post per submission, and should keep it updated
You may submit unfinished games, but they must at least have passed one review by the close of signups to be eligible for judging.
Close of signups will be one week after Iso's Four Horsemen finishes, so get cracking!
Game Name: Iconic Mafia (Subject to Change)
Host: Shadowlancerx (Megiddo, co-mod)
Reviewers: Bur, Megiddo
Current stage of development: Fine tuning
Number of Players: 16
Deadline lengths: One day per each living player +4
Technical Overview: This is a role madness game with many normal roles, but some less normal abilities. There are no vanillas. Additionally, there is a strong theme of day abilities in addition to night abilities.
Flavor Overview: A dark figure crests the horizon, his cape billowing behind him. Standing in his path, holding a shield, a man calls to him, "I can't let you continue, this ends here." With a twist of his arm, he looses the shield at the villain in a flash of red, white, and blue.
With a lift of his hand, the shield stops in mid air, "If you only knew the power of the dark side."
Each role is an iconic character from their respective story or universe, all with very flavorful abilities.
Game Name: Regardless of Reality Mafia
Host: Wheat_Grinder
Reviewer: Iso
Current stage of development: 7/20/17 EDIT: First draft completed, now in review.
Number of players: 16
Deadline lengths: 3 weeks day one, two weeks thereafter.
Technical overview: Mafia is a game about manipulating information. This humor filled bastard game takes information manipulation to its illogical conclusion. Bonus mechanic: Each player has a sidequest with a special reward should they succeed.
Flavor overview: In an insane asylum somewhere in Massachusetts, an inmate is shrieking. Despite that, a group of 16 have gathered somewhere in a town in Iowa. They say reality is just what you perceive it to be, and sometimes it just takes a helping hand to see things the right way.
Zombie Mafia
Hosted by tom
Needs reviewed but I think I know most of if not all of the setup pending reviewers/balancing
14-18 players
deadlines can be voted on by players, but im thinking [# of living players] days
Technical overview:
an attempt at a more "fair" cult-type mechanic.
Visits one person each night infecting them, after the next night they become a zombie as well.
A person is cured from infection if visited by a doctor, the players aren't notified that they are infected. So doctors cure the night they contract the infection or the night of incubation.
A converted zombie dies if visited by a doctor.
Converted Zombies spread the infection.
Zombies win if more than half the living players are zombies
Don't have a private topic with each other, nor do they know who else is a zombie.
If zombie is lynched DAY 1 ONLY, a randomized person on their wagon becomes infected
Rest of the game is town v scum with relatively few vanillas to ensure maximum zombie spreading
Well, with submissions like the ones above, I won't hold my breath, but...
Game Name: Ghostbusters
Host(s): Cantripmancer
Reviewer(s): Prophylaxis and Ecophagy
Current stage of development: 3rd iteration of roles/balance, hopefully getting close to approval
Number of Players: Likely 17
Deadline Lengths: Likely [# of players] + [lynch threshold] = Deadline in days, but may be shortened a bit. Open to recommendations from the playerbase.
A technical overview of the game (Central mechanics, Complexity, aims, etc.): Specific technical specifications would ruin a lot of the fun, but multiple unique and flavorful concepts that mirror aspects of the movie.
A flavour overview: The ecto-containment unit has malfunctioned, pulling several notable characters from the original movie into the ectoplasmic dimension, where nothing is as it seems, and threats lurk in the darkness...
Will also mention that I am willing to review, although I don't think I'm identified as an approved reviewer, so you may need two authorized reviewers even if I take a look.
Are we allowed more than one submission? Because I have another one with all-original flavor that hasn't had any review, but most the roles are built. Called Snipe Hunt Mafia... Can I add it to the list, or should we keep it to one/person?

Yes, you can submit as many games as you like, although I don't think we'll allow one person to win multiple times.

Eh, right, only three go through. Well, I'd rather Eco and Proph didn't feel like I rode them hard and put them away wet for no good reason. I'll stick with the setup that's been in development for several years rather than introduce a new horse into the mix.
Game Name: VR Salvation 2
Host(s): Ecophagy (seeking co-host)
Reviewer(s): None
Current stage of development: N/A
Number of Players: Tentative 18
Deadline Lengths: Nominally 2 weeks
Technical overview: A sequel to Cubus' smash hit VR Salvation from 2008, this game will follow the same rules. Simply put: you build the game! Anyone can submit as many roles they like and they will be combined into a setup. These can be new roles, old roles you liked, completely off the wall ideas or anything in between. I reserve the right to change any aspect of roles or simply not use them, but will do my best to use as many ideas as possible. If the previous game is anything to go by, MTGS possesses auniquelytwistedimagination.
A flavour overview: Salvation Software Studio's first beta test of Virtual Reality: Salvation was....eventful. The product was considered dangerously unstable, the reports suppressed, and the project shelved. Nine years later, technological advances have rekindled the possibility of creating a stable virtual reality where truly anything could be possible. Of course, more beta testers would be needed....
How this works: Right now, I have no setup. Anyone and everyone can and should send me ideas starting from now. If this game wins the FTQ, I'll compile those ideas into a game. If it doesn't win, that just means there's even longer to send me ideas before the next FTQ. I expect nothing less than your unfettered, unrestrained imagination.
Game Name: Untitled

Current stage of development: Initial game development and review completed. Will need another reviewer.
Number of Players: 16(?)
A technical overview of the game (Central mechanics, Complexity, aims, etc.): Time is out of joint. What happened thirty years ago left its scars on the present. But what if you could change your past...?
A flavour overview: This is my spiritual successor to INTO OBLIVION, a continuation of Xyre's inimitable saga. He worked with AsianInvasion and me on crafting the next game in the series, but ultimately we did not finish (well, we mostly did). I have taken some of the themes and ideas we came up with and put my own twist and design sensibilities into them to create something brand new. The flavor will generally be post-apocalyptic, and very character-focused. The final product is meant to be a love letter to Xyre + AI.

i'm pretty sure i can find your ***** online within 3 minutes
You wake up to a pounding headache in a dim-lit room. Glacing around, you see that you are alone in something that looks like a cabin. You look around, only to find out that the door is locked and windows of the room are pitch black. You reach into your pockets, only to find out that you cell phone isn't there where it's supposed to be. Panic hits you, as you realise that you seem to have been robbed of all your personal belongings. You angrily kick the bed and sit down on the bed to contemplate the mess you are in.
That's when you hear it. A screeching sounds reverberates in the room, as if the whole boat (you were in a boat, right?) crashed into something. The screeching sound goes on for who-knows-how-long and then... silence. The eerie silence permeates the cabin you are in... and then you hear it. Water. The sound of a water leaking into your room through the window (it was cracked just a moment ago, you think). You frantically start looking for a way out, rummage the closet, drawers, any place that might contain the key. Luckily for you, you manage to find the key at the bottom of a bath tub, filled with water.
You grab the key without thinking much, ram it into the mechanism and turn it. You hear the clicking sound and open the door, only run away from your cabin and fast. You run along the gloomy corridor, turn right and see stairs. They seem to lead upstairs. You grab the handrail and rush upwards, towards the light. At the end of the stairs, there is another door waiting for you, much sturdier this time. You grab the handle, and luckily for you, it's not locked. You open the door, rush to the room on the other side of the door and slam the door shut. That will hopefully keep the water out... for now. Then, you look at the room you arrived to.
You find yourself in a huge hall, where there are some other people. You count the people: 1, 2, 3... 16. There are 16 people here besides you. Just what kind of mess have you ended up in...?
Welcome to the Zero Escape Mafia, game for 17 people.
This game is still yet under development (maybe 60 % done?), but it will be a really flavourful game, bringing you an experience you won't forget.
Just like the original games, this game tries to emulate the feeling of "Who is an ally? Who is an enemy?".
The game works like a normal game of mafia, except that all roles function with Bracelet Points (or BP for short).
You start with a certain amount of BP and can spend them to activate your abilities.
If you reach 0 BP, you die.
Now, you might be asking: "But how can we gain more points then?".
Answer is simple: By playing Ambidex game. At the beginning of an each night, all the remaining players will be randomly paired.
Then, each player can choose to "Ally" or "Betray".
If both players Ally, they both gain 1 BP.
If both players Betray, no changes to either's BP.
If one of the players Ally and another Betrays, the betrayer gains 3 BP and allying player loses 2 BP.
(Subject to changes at reviewing process)
Welcome to Zero Escape Mafia, Prophylaxis! You are Ecophagy.
You are a Neutral Sacrificial Lamb. You start with 4 BP. You have the following special abilities:
Passive Abilities: Poisoned tea, once again: At the beginning of a night, if you have even amount of BP, you die a horrible, horrible death.
Active Abilities: Amuse me, plebians (1 BP): Write a flavour scene. Mod will post that scene at their next convenience. Britain needs its entertainment (1 BP): Write a flavour scene and choose a gif. Mod will post that scene and gif at their next convenience. Activate this ability only if you have 5 or more BP.
Game Name: Borderlands Mafia Host: BluesEclipse Reviewers: Wheat_Grinder, EternalLurker Current Stage of Development: Roles are written, Flavor is mostly written, currently under review for balancing. Number of Players: 18 Deadline Lengths: Deadline per day = Living Players + Lynch Threshold (so later days will be shorter, to account for fewer players). Nights will be 48 hours. Technical Overview: Role-heavy Mafia, largely standard roles but a few non-standard ones thrown in. However, it is Borderlands, so it's all about the loot - every character has a Loot Drop assigned that is awarded to the person that kills them (or the person that hammers them if they are lynched). Loot will grant additional abilities that the players can use, usually in lieu of their regular night actions. Flavour Overview: In the aftermath of the battle against Handsome Jack, and the events surrounding the Vault of the Traveler, Vault Hunters are flocking to the city of Sanctuary. However, while most of the denizens of Sanctuary are concerned with the warnings brought by an odd alien, others are solely concerned with their own satisfaction. And when said alien turns up dead, it becomes a matter of finding who is responsible - by any means necessary.
Hosts: DV Reviewers: GJ,Anak, Az Current stage of development: Done other than Flavor, and some minor number balancing Number of Players: 19 Deadline Lengths: Something reasonable Mechanics:
Players have a sanity counter that going below a number spells certain death due to insanity. There are ways to recover sanity.
There is an auction house thread where players can post in as bid numbers, which are randomized.
Players bid on items with Gold and Silver coins, Gold coins are worth 3 silver Coins.
Players can auction their own items, and do that either anonymously or through their bid number.
Players can set their own exchange rates for coins for their bids, IE 1 gold coin but 4 silver to equal one gold.
Currency is very much part of this game.
The auction house has many items up for sale, there will be many lots for sale many will not be identified for their abilities and players can vote on which items go up for sale with their auction number. Some amount of items will be randomized for sale each day as well.
Players have wills where they leave their items and money to players can be distributed as much as they want.
If a player does not have a will or a specific item or extra cash then players will vote on where an item goes and who gets the money etc.
If a player is lynched or killed their will will be read out in public, and items distributed accordingly.
There is also a doom counter in the game.
Currently there are well over 32 unique item abilities.
Flavor:
H.P Lovecraft inspired but expect flavor to be light unless I get a co-mod that actually wants to write a lot.
Four Horsemen has now finished, so final deadline for submissions is ONE WEEK from today. To be eligible for judging, a game must have gone through at least one review cycle by the time that deadline is hit.
Also reminder that if you want to see VR Salvation 2 run I need MOAR ROLES.
Alright, a week has passed so these are now CLOSED. We'll collate what we have, talk to reviewers and game hosts, and come to a final verdict. Thank you everyone for entering!
The FTQ committee emerges from a smokey back room. Deals have been struck and cases argued. Most importantly, we have winners.
The three winners, presented in the order their games are slated to run are:
Bur and Prophylaxis with Zero Escape Mafia
Megiddo with INTO OBLIVION Mafia
DV with Arkham Horror Mafia
Congratulations to our winners! Commiserations to everyone who didn't make the cut, every game here entered of excellent quality and it was tremendously difficult to pick only three. Thank you everyone for participating and helping keep this community alive and kicking with some super cool designs.
The first FTQ will be running after SilverCrys' Mini fires, so get in there and sign up for it!
