I tried to google around for this and got no where, not sure if its from the lack of sleep (7:30am and havent been to bed yet, ugh) or what, but since iv been back to MTG this past month or so from a 7+ year break basically, iv been trying to update my decks that I started 7-12 years ago, and at last, iv almost completed my goal in my Elf deck of having 0 basic lands. So the question comes down to it, do I have to have at least 1 basic land? Or can I have none? I know there is no rule about not having any creatures in a deck. (had a debate about that years ago with my burn deck. ) But what about basic lands?
There's only one overarching deckbuilding rule in mainstream Magic, besides "no banned cards for the format you're playing in": You can't have more than four copies of any card that isn't a basic land (or that isn't a special exception). Many decks include no basic lands, the classic examples being N-post (I think it's called 16post by this point) and Urzatron.
