Sweet! The unset that youve all been clamoring for and wont buy!
I know, im about to get a flood of responses saying otherwise, but if the past has proven anything, this will sell well for a week or two and then you'll never find anyone interested in it again
I find this a weird decision, considering the Un-Sets are pretty much supported by the full-art lands (that's magnitudes greater than Zendikar and Amonkhet) and that's about it.
I hope they went into this decision without high (or any) expectations (at least in terms of sales/profits)... because I don't have any.
According to the people who know the numbers, Unhinged sold decently for a supplemental product. However, it was seen as a failure because the print run was that of a normal Magic expansion.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
Given MaRo's affinity for them I already assumed squirrels would be this Un-set's Chickens/Donkeys, but still nice to see a confirmation.
Things I hope to see:
-a Fblthp legend or planeswalker
-an ostrich planeswalker with only one ability: turning itself into a creature with plainswalking
-a card acknowledging Nicol Bolas's patheitc speech impediment
-Urza's Floating Head as an artifact so I can use it with Bludgeon Brawl. (Before anyone asks: no, making it an equipment so you don't need Bludgeon Brawl just wouldn't be the same.)
-a reprint of AWOL with the art being a Ravnican poster depicting Jace, with the caption "Have you seen this person? Please contact the Azorius Bureau of Inter-Guild Affairs. Urgent!" and surrounding posters and graffiti hinting at large-scale riots and inter-guild wars happening.
It's a real shame Sorin is currently occupied on Innistrad, because his no-nonsense and serious demeanor would have made him the perfect candidate for the role of the set's stooge.
Sorin, Enemy of Nahiri - B
Planeswalker - Sorin
(No abilities)
(Loyalty - Who cares)
(Art - Sorin bored, inside a wall)

Also maybe we can have some art of Sorin being used as a nest by squirrels.

Someone should do an edit of Forced Worship, only it's Sorin instead.
Well people, time to hoard those basic lands, I remember having to wait for like a month until SCG had the foil Unhinged Island at 12$ back then to complete the set, and now it goes for around 70$, grab your foils while you can, they will explode in value if UNH is anything to go by.
I bought cases and cases of unhinged @ $23 a box. They got delivered on a pallet. This was when unhinged lands were about $1 each and the foil basics were around $6. You were guaranteed 2 foil lands in a box, sometimes you got 3. That purchase is literally putting my kids through college.
I'm very excited for Unstable, but I'm silently dreading the 'clever' people who try to sneak in a bunch of Cheatyfaces "because it's an 'Un' set". Cheatyface is hilarious when you first encounter it, or when someone pulls off some hilarious trick like revealing that, beneath the printed image, all of his/her proxies are actually Cheatyface. The first time. Then it gets old fast.
So, I'm going to the pre-release with an altered emblem card that says
"As long as an opponent controls a permanent named Cheatyface, you may reveal this card from your pocket and gain a copy of this emblem.
You may ask an opponent to remove from play all permanents he or she controls named Cheatyface. If that opponent does not do so, you may punch him or her directly in the face. Hard. (You may do this at any time.)"
Reminder text taken from Sphinx of Jwar Isle
It will be an actual magic card that has been altered, so that I can argue the official rules will allow it. I will then bog down the game indefinitely with a rules argument until they remove their cheatyfaces or allow me to punch them a bunch of times, whichever comes first.
Well, this is the first set since Unhinged that I need to get complete collection of. (The sets before that were Unglued, Visions and whatever came before.)

Simply and politely remind them that Cheatyface's ability only allows him to be put onto the battlefield from your hand/library; he still needs to be part of the decklist and legal in the format you're doing it in.
...Then call over a judge and have them DQed, banned from the store, and drawn and quartered.

Several things I'd like to address here.
First and foremost, threatening to hit your opponent, even "jokingly" via this "card" could actually end up with you receiving a ban from Wizards events. Even if a joke card upset me that much, I wouldn't want to jeopardize my relationship with the company that makes it and runs it. I would rather just frustratingly call over a judge to question the legality of it, and then find some way to win the game in that manner. Or just leave the game.
Secondly, there are alot of misconceptions about Cheatyface that Maro has corrected over the years (and pretty much any silver bordered card since he is the official Un-rules manager.) Now I hope that all of the cards will receive their proper rules entries and Oracle interpretations with the release of Unstable (in fact I know a rules work up is in the works, just not sure how extensive it will be) but allow me to add to the above and clarify.
- Cheatyface must be "legal" in the format that you're using him in. So someone can't show up to Unstable draft with 60 Cheatyface and ruin your day.
- Cheatyface must be in your hand for you to sneak him into play. So no, you cant palm a Cheatyface from your sideboard and put it into play. Even though the spirit of the rule of Cheatyface is "anything goes" Maro has been quite clear on this one.
- If Cheatyface is snuck in in a method that doesn't leave him visible (such as craftily playing him underneath another card) the first time he becomes visible, he can be "caught." This has been ruled by Maro and effectively rules out the Ashnod's Coupon "cheat" as well.
- ideally, you are supposed to succeed at sleight of hand and misdirection at the table to keep your opponent from noticing the blatantly obvious Cheatyface on the battlefield for like 5 seconds. I don't know if this would be "legal" but I would ideally play it as: "I Tap three/two islands for blue blue/blue. I play Cheatyface. Wait five seconds. Proceed to play another spell and use the two/three blue in my pool." It'd be a jerk move, so I'd probably not play it unless I was teaching a jerk a lesson.
And lastly, even were your opponent to be playing a 60 card art modded Cheatyface deck, it would be a deck of 60 Cheatyface cards, not "whatever they had printed on top." I imagine this to be the rule in any tournament setting, if the judge didn't outright ask you to remove the offending card(s) from your deck and replace with basic lands. And yes, even though silver bordered cards do break the rules, they are still sitting next to a similar set of rules, otherwise it would be impossible to play a game of Magic with them.
I'm excited for Unstable because I have a pretty good play group right now who can take it for what it is--just a fun way to play the game on occasion. The problem I have with these un-sets though is that too many people take even this format too serious, or just think they can do whatever they want, just because it's a joke set. Somewhere I recently saw some guys talking about the Sword of Dungeons and Dragons card that's been revealed and were talking about how they'd use a weighted D20, since it doesn't specifically say that it has to be a normal D20. This is so ridiculous... you still have to follow rules, and people can't just do whatever the heck they want just because it's a "fun" set. People like this ruin the experience. It's only fun if you still abide by the rules.

Maro has disallowed this too; you have to specify that you're using your mana to pay for it, and if you don't, your opponent(s) can catch you when you try to spend that mana.

I figured you'd not be allowed. I'll be so glad when that rules update happens and puts to rest [some of] the rules nightmares that have me tearing out my eyeballs because of incompetent people and not interpreting the rules correctly. (Like the above scenario regarding weighted dice. Or anyone that attempts to use a spindown. I will bring me some proper d20s on those days for anyone who is an idiot.)
I honestly never really thought about the difference between the D20 and the spindown. I mean, I knew there was a difference in how the numbers are layed out, but never considered that it really does make cheating easier with it. So, you're right about that too, in a competitive event, D20s should be used. I won't worry about that in casual play with my group, but you're absolutely right. Rules gotta be followed or it's no fun.

If you have to "properly" roll a dice it doesnt really matter anymore.
You could also simply use a magician D20 that rolls as many 20 as you like.
