I believe at one point MaRo floated the idea that an Un-Set could have its own self-contained story on an "Un-Plane", basically the Multiverse's equivalent to Toon Town. I think that'd be awesome.
People who care about Conspiracy as a format, and not just for the reprints that it brings, share a lot of overlap in target audience with fans of Un-.
Conspiracy sets are popular not only because of the format and good reprints but also because new cards are created that support EDH and Legacy.
Unstable won't have any reprints that will support eternal formats nor will it have new cards that will support EDH, Legacy (or any format for that matter aside from drafting and perhaps fringe joke cubes).
I really think there are more people that would want a return to Kamigawa set than an unset, but Mark Rosewater is so biased because he's obsessed with unsets for some reason.
This pleases me. I'm interested in what comes out of the designs that they aren't usually allowed to do. Sometimes the designs simply cross over into the real world, like the Carnivorous Death-Parrot ability, or Ashnod's Coupon (which I'm less crazy about), and sometimes they really just push the limits of what they're allowed to do with design space. That brings out some interesting cards that wouldn't have gotten to exist otherwise. I'm talking about BFM, Mox Lotus, Blast from the Past, __________, and Booster Tutor. As long as they mix up the goofy stuff with interesting stuff, I'm happy.

And sometimes we get that design space in black border: The Cheese Stands Alone is a story everyone knows (and was the first serious alt-win card, I think, after the fundamentally unserious Amulet of Quoz). Ol' Big Furry gave us meld and Blast from the Past seems like a spot-on parody of Time Spiral before that block was even released.
Booster Tutor - you can make a case - even may have influenced Conspiracy.
Thank you! This is awesome. I never got to draft any of the Unsets, but I was able to get a few packs of both way back when. These are just for plain fun and I can't wait to have a ton of fun drafting this as much as possible.
Watch them put every single Masterpiece in these boosters along with great looking full art lands to sell them like hotcakes.

Booster Tutor is one of the more interesting cards to consider for Cube. I don't play it in mine, as I think it's overpowered, but for those who don't mind broken cards, and don't mind the silver border, Booster Tutor is both functional, and insanely sweet. (When I've played with it, an additional cube pack has been used, rather than a sealed booster pack. Most people don't have those lying around.)
Ok, so all of these announcements are amazing, pretty much exactly what I wanted overall. I'd missed out on the first two Un sets, and I'm dying to try one out. However, what I was hoping Wizards would do is make said set black bordered and standard legal while keeping all the ridiculous flavor intact. As an example, they could make a functional reprint of Nevermore, but change its name to 'The Banhammer' an make it an artifact. And also reprint silly black bordered cards such as Goblin Game and Phelddagrif.
I'll buy some of this, but honestly I just like seeing how wizards incorporates magic memes into the joke cards and the other clever meta humor. This will be the first UN set that I have been present for

Why wouldn't people buy Un-Sets? Commander has already proven that the one of Magic's biggest markets is kitchen table players, and Conspiracy has already proven people are very receptive to zany hijinks in the Draft phase, why not zany hijinks during the game itself?
I just hope the prices aren't MM / Conspiracy levels of outrageous. Definitely want to pick a box to play with friends.

Banhammer has to be an equipment in this set. There's so much magic lingo that has arisen since the last set that should make it onto cards. (When a creature equipped with banhammer deals combat damage to a player, name a spell. That player cannot cast spells with that name (ever again).

Again, you're using non-Conspiracy formats as the reason for your disappointment that this isn't a Conspiracy set, and I'm going to say again that fans of the Conspiracy format will greatly overlap with fans of Un-.
For what it's worth, Un- cards see frequent usein Cubes that are not fringe jokes, and is arguably the best type of set that WotC can print in support of the Cube format, which is played way more than Legacy, and EDH already gets a yearly supplement.
I can't wait to open a masterpiece basic land (unglued foil).
While that would be awesome, really it would, I expect that it won't fit with whatever theme they would showcase for an Un- Masterpiece series. I'm thinking "Justifications" that all have flavor text attempting to explain why famously bad cards are in fact good, as told by Squee.
So this won't be legal in any other formats except casual play? Does the reserve list include silver border? At the very least we could get some functional reprints, un-style. I would be super happy if we got some un-dual lands with a suitably silly rider or some think like jack-in-the-mox.

Oh god the inevitable Legendary Storm Crow.
(EDIT: Also, make a mechanic called "Strictly Better" that allows you to make the card... well, Stricly Better. This one's for free Wizards. )

The unsets gave us some pretty fun cube cards like blast from the past, booster tutor and city of ass so I have high hopes.
Also more squirrel tokens.
