Zero chance (sorry) but we will finally be getting a "Spike, Super-Competitor" card of some sort and that makes me very happy indeed.
Bet he'll be too...probably at that.
Very happy to finally see this but I wouldn't expect any more after this, no matter what happens. They will not sell enough...they never have.
If MaRo's word is to be taken at face value the reason they never sold enough was because they printed too much. They actually sold quite a few Unglued and Unhinged, but they had so many unsold that it felt like it failed. This was (according to MaRo) because in 2004 there was no such thing as a supplemental product (in terms of print run). So, they printed it in the same quantities they would any small set of time and the demand wasn't nearly enough for that quantity.
I am hoping they have figured out the quantity issues (and have some sweet basics art and frames) so this can occur more often. I am excited for it and I don't even plan on playing too much with the cards. They are just a fun supplement to the base game for casual players.
Someone still hasn't answered this question yet: what is the main appeal of the Un-sets besides the lands and the nostalgia, and why should my friends and I buy any of this product?
Your friends and you shouldn't buy any of this product because you are not the intended audience.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Why wouldn't people buy Un-Sets? Commander has already proven that the one of Magic's biggest markets is kitchen table players, and Conspiracy has already proven people are very receptive to zany hijinks in the Draft phase, why not zany hijinks during the game itself?
I just hope the prices aren't MM / Conspiracy levels of outrageous. Definitely want to pick a box to play with friends.
The key thing you're missing is that cards in Commander are playable in every other format as well.
This exactly.
I am not a player that goes to tournaments. I consider myself to a be semi competitive casual player with a few spike like tendencies. I usually play with my friends, but sometimes I like to go to a card shop and play some EDH or casual Modern with people I don't know.
Yes, most players are not tournament spikes, but the vast majority of players do not play with silver border cards. Many players that play casually still want to play with cards where there are clear and consistent rules.
Even if you are player that plays Standard, Modern, Frontier, Legacy, Vintage, and EDH, there will not be one card in this set that you can play in any of your other decks aside from basic lands. That is ridiculous and if it weren't for previous Un sets, this would be unprecedented.
Most players would be much happier if they put awesome full art basic lands in a set with cards that can actually be played within the official rules of magic the gathering.

Maro has said that in the past they printed as much as a Small Set, instead of as a Supplemental Set (which is presumably a smaller print run). In all likelihood this won't be so overprinted as they will print it as a Supplemental Set. So if it sells well for a Supplemental Set, I could see another one in a few years' time.
They're basically a game show compared to your regular serious viewing. Watch it/Play it once in a while and have a few laughs, get a token full art basic land for your troubles and move on. There might even be cards with some collector value; for example, the Richard Garfield, PHD foil can fetch quite a bit.
I've also seen the odd-UN card creep into COmmander decks.

Advice: Do not assume that your experience or your perceived experience is data, ever.
If you're hung up on tournament legality, this set was probably never for you: Un is as pure casual as it gets.
The marketers probably think this is a good gauge for how much they can sell something aimed entirely at the kitchen table. Conspiracy was successful, and I think this being greenlit is a direct result. I hope it goes well.
Provided that unlike Conspiracy, this Un-Set doesn't have a bunch of "drafting matters" cards stuffed into it, I suspect it will be quite well received.
Oh PLEASE don't make it a drafting set. PLEASE. PLEASE. Drafting is bad enough as it is without making cards like Archdemon of Paliano or any of those constructs that did draft-y things.
What is up with all you "serious" players lamenting that an unset is coming after 13 years, during a time in which no normal set (or even supplemental ones) would be released, without using up ressources from the other products, fullfilling the wish of quite a few casual players or players in general who get the joke or would like to play a more comedic and fun take on Magic for once? The product is clearly not for you so don't buy it. But it takes nothing away from you in any way and I think the players who waited for it for quite a long time (and also Maro) deserve to have this product. I will definitely buy a box^^ Hopefully it will sell well enough to justify another one a decade or so down the line.
I like seeing un-sets. For the most part they shouldn't need to devote too many developmental resources into it. Just get the cards and get the art, and be creative with how much they can mess with the card borders.
This is real, right? Cool announcement - I like un-sets and will probably play for this for longer than the couple of months mentioned above.
I hope they've learned from Unglued, where some of the cards felt over-engineered. (I know people have also pointed out how you can use things like Number Crunch for griefing, but that's partly on design and partly on the players.)
I am a little concerned that we'll be oversaturated with full-art lands, but I guess they need to boost revenue across the board.
Someone still hasn't answered this question yet: what is the main appeal of the Un-sets besides the lands and the nostalgia, and why should my friends and I buy any of this product?
The naysayers will play it. They'll have fun. And they'll still complain despite getting more value than spending the same amount of money on most DC movies.
"Modern design and creative technology" according to Maro. I assume that means we will be seeing things like 3-4 unique mechanics, well-defined draft archetypes, multicolor uncommons, and relatively low complexity at common. I would also expect at least one planeswalker, if not more. I'm guessing that the creative part is going to be an official un-plane as the setting, which could be interesting.
I've never played an un-set before, but I do want to try it. I really hope that they do more of the card designs things that they can't do in black border (that hopefully will inspire black border designs in the future), and less of the bizarre gameplay that cares about things happening in real life, especially the ones that are inconvenient or embarrassing to use.
I'm hoping that they bring back draft matters cards from Conspiracy, but of course putting a spin on them so that they are humorous and/or impossible to print in black border. Come to think of it, it's surprising that draft matters wasn't first introduced in an un-set before being put into Conspiracy, rather than the other way around. I think that draft matters would be a perfect fit for an un-set and would make me much more likely to draft it multiple times.

To be fair, MaRo has repeatedly (and correctly) admitted that "Gotcha!" was a massive mechanical fail and poor un-design.
And it's 100% going to be a drafting set if by drafting you mean "designed and developed to provide a fun and engaging drafting experience." So there will be some sort-of boring curve filler creatures and removal spells. I'm very excited to see how they pulled this off (My favorite from Unhinged is Duh). I highly doubt there will be "draft matters" cards, however.

It's going to be built with drafting in mind, that's how all Magic sets are built today. As for Draft Matters...hard to say. I could see a few one-off cards that do stuff during draft, but I don't imagine it would get to Conspiracy levels.
I see references being made not only to the past Un-Sets but also to some recent Magic memes like Bear Punch.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
@SultaiAscendancy: UN drafts can be really fun. I remember someone using a Booster Tutor, getting a Radiate, then using the Radiate on an UN card that could destroy some form of permanent and wiping out the entire store, haha. Some of the stuff I could do without, like Shoe Tree I believe, but overall it's good, whimsical fun that will while a few hours away. They key thing for WOTC will be to not overprint, because demand will peter off eventually and the packs just won't get opened except for the basic lands. Ashnod's Coupon and R&D's Secret Lair was a fun combo as well., haha!

I don't understand the appeal for unsets. Like, okay, you draft it once or twice and literally can't use the cards in any other format. Why does this get do much hype?
The reason that this set gives me so much excitement is because its humor spirits me away from people who do nothing but complain about everything about the game and why this or that sucks (hint: read above) or the people who build 90+% EDH decks and wonder why noone wants to play with their Arcum Daggson, Selvala 2.0, or Marathon infini-combo decks. It takes me away from the need to be on full auto ALL THE TIME. It doesn't matter if I win or lose, I'm laughing the whole way.
Also, the rules intricacies of some of these cards are a beauty to behold. Think you're a hotshot because you know how to correctly Swerve a Counterspell? Try unscrambling Topsy Turvy, or Yet Another Aether Vortex. Or Ambiguity.
To all the complainers out there, you haven't REALLY played Magic until you've Gifts Given-ed an opponent, and watched another opponent be on the receiving end of a Topdecked Ulamog 2.0 (and I don't mean freshly drawn this turn either.)
