I mean, thundermaw and lord of the pit are certainly iconic cards, but they're also pretty bad cards to reprint. Where do they see play? Nowhere, that's where.
Please stop wasting slots on cards that don't deserve to be reprinted (differently from prime time, that sees play in modern and duel commander).

Would you like to read Commander stories? Check my latest stories, coming from Lorwyn and Innistrad: Ghoulcaller Gisa and Doran, The Siege Tower! If you like my writing, ask me to write something for your commander as well!
That card only sees play on VINTAGE and on some multiplayer commander lists. Blergh.
EDIT: I like how my posts are in stark opposition to MrMime133 back-to-back, heh.

I really like that green merfolk. Either draws you a card or you get a 3/2 for 2, which might be bigger with whatever merfolk lord(s) there are.
Iconic Masters is giving me hope this might be the first really good Masters set since the 1st one, but Masters sets usually disappoint at the end and it has a $10 price tag to contend with.
All five dragons for Kamigawa, all with new art, at rare.
Kamigawa dragons. That's it.

You had to know headed into this that it wasn't going to be a "Reprint all cards based on their demand in competitive formats". Even from the very concept of iconic masters, the best you could hope for is "I hope the cards that actually have value outnumber the cards that are going to be reprinted for iconicness despite being valueless".
One more Mana Drain level reprint means one less Lord of the Pit level reprint that could have been in its place. And for most people that's a good thing, even if it doesn't specifically address many tournament-staple needs.
Mana Drain is only in some Commander lists because it was expensive AF. It won't be anymore (well, foils will be), so it'll be in a lot of Commander lists going forward (I know I'm cramming it into any/all blue commanders decks I have).

Wizards are reprinting 200$-level cards and people are complaining? Wow. Mana Drain is an impressive choice for sure, one we have waited for for years and years. Nice!!!
How about Bishop of the Bloodstained? We just gonna miss that?
I love it my only nitpick is I wish it was each opponent but my Edgar is going to love it. If I am understanding right the bishop will count the vampire token that Edgar creates when you cast him.

I'm curious. What reasonable, non-reserved, high profile reprint would you want to see that Mana Drain eats the slot for?
FoW has been reprinted twice in the past year.
Considering a mythic slot? Literally anything that can be played in more than 1 real format? (Since irl vintage players are basically like unicorns, and I'm being generous since multiplayer commander isn't a tournament format). You could add Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Liliana of the Veil, Vendilion Clique... heck, with such format restrictions I would pick mystical tutor or capture of jingzhou before picking mana drain.

You get the token on cast, and the effect ETB, so definitely.

So this would be the first fail of the set for me, I love the Kamigawa Dragon Cycle but that new art seems like a clear downgrade to me, this could mark the first time I'd ever be sad to open up another Kokusho.
Edit: This leads me to wonder why would WotC go market this set as Iconic and then go out of its way to make these Iconic cards unrecognizable to the player base, seems like an oxymoron.

What could you possibly want over Mana Drain?
Dat art tho.
Seriously, the art on all the IMA cards with new art is spectacular.
