The pirate: act of treason on a stick is interesting, oh by the way I knew this the whole time and I have Ben saying this,
WE DID NOT SEE ALL THE RARES SOME OF THE RARES WERE UNREADABLE.
The merfolk ok now we got something for that knife that flips into lotus vale
The vampire: a attacker that gets 2 temporary power while attack good and gains indestrucable for 4 life perfect for life game
The dinosaur: yes sir this dinosaur tribal deck of mine isn't shaping up more and more, oh you all made a fatal mistake I see
I'm surprise you all failed to notice it's a slightly worse reality smasher

I mean multiple people have already mentioned the comparison. And we also knew we hadn't seen ALL the rares yet - just the majority. Relax a bit.
I have a sinking feeling that pirate is gonna be pretty big in EDH decks, especially those who love their free sac outlets to boot. 4 mana: Fling any creature of an opponent to their own heads and then get rid of it seems fair.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
River Sneak looks interesting. There are only four Merfolk token creators in the game (besides Riptide Replicator and Volrath's Laboratory), all but one from Lorwyn block, so not really abusable. (And of course, there are no merfolk on Kaladesh or Amonkhet, so here's hoping for some on Dominaria.)
Captivating Crew is really interesting. Of course, it's not like red is wanting for spouts when you have infinite mana.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
I'm starting to think Ixalan will be very feel-bad in limited. Repeat threaten, out-of-nowhere 5 hasty trample, unblockable dudes. These make for very unsatisfying games when you're on the wrong end of it with no ready answer.
Yeah, this definitely seems like a potentially bomby, swingy format.
Considering how much people complain about Standard getting shortchanged by Limited concerns (real or perceived), it might be time for a little reciprocity (real or perceived).
Personally, I haven't really disliked a limited format in a long time, so I'm probably gonna roll with the punches and be happy with whatever.
I'm just beginning to wonder if Red is going to be so obviously best in draft that the draft experience will boil down to seeing whether the people who chased red-because-it's-best cut each other so hard that people who chose other colors mostly uncontested wind up building better decks?
Which usually happens to some degree... it's just looking especially prevalent from what we've seen so far out of this set.
Captivating Crew is pretty awesome. Great in limited, despite the improved burn presence. With fling and sac effects, it could easily become an EDH all star, especially with a single R requirement. And I just noticed that it doesn't tap to activate. Brutally awesome for lategame EDH.
River Sneak could be a good budget Merfolk card, just lord them up and walk at people unblocked. Seems like it could be legit.
Charging Monstrosaur has a great name, and is a fantastic limited card. Uncommon beatstick.
Adanto Vanguard is neat, but giving it lifelink would be awesome. It could rival Accorder Paladin for a spot in my cube, but I doubt it would have the same impact.
Wow, you slap flying on that dinosaur and it resembles several mythics of red's past, so I'm shocked that was printed at uncommon. yes a rare people would call it dollar bin jank, but at uncommon it's crazy good. captivating crew is beyond just a limited bomb. with all the treasure token's, and a lot of them in red, it's not impossible to drop this turn 4 and steal their best 2 creatures turn 5 and swing for the win. yes your ramp would need to be near perfect up to that point, but with the lotus vale land it is a possibility
At first I was tempted to overestimate how good captivating crew was, that even with a 4 upkeep, even if its vulnerable to most of the format's removal and just trades 1:1 with a killspell with no board impact or CA, a 4-slot mind control-esque effect with a 4 power body attached would be oppressive, like how sower of temptation dominated in more ways than one. Sower was just 2 evasive power at 4 cmc (and no more costs), but boy was it a house of an overpowered card
But this is no sower. Barring any other enablers like a sac outlet, you don't 3-for-1 with this. They get their creature back, they untap it, they can attack again, you can't lock down an enemy creature on its owner's turn.
For a french vanilla creature I spent far too much time reading Charging Monstrosaur. I kept looking for the downside ability and it just wasn't there. Not even glorified reminder text like "attacks each turn if able". Amazing.
Also very, very real porcelain legionnaire vibes from the vanguard. A 2-drop that costs you some life but kills an X/3 in combat and lives to tell the tale. I think they nerfed it reasonably by making sure this baby couldn't block like legionnaire, and when you have less control over trading life for cards with an enemy's board as they can simply choose not to block it, 3 power from a 2 drop is strong but not oppressive, and surviving most removal or sweepers gives it a good claim to make up for that deficiency. Of course, legionaire's real reason for taking over NPH standard was that it was ridiculous at common and available to all color drafts, and at uncommon and only in white, this won't be anywhere near as pervasive.
You can drop him t3 in mono red after a t2 Wily Goblin... but expecting a 2 activation turn anytime early is awfully ambitious.
yes I agree it's ambitious, and very unlikely to happen, it's just the fact that it is possible. That alone forces your opponent to have to react to or deal with the creature rather than advancing their own board state. Even one activation, which is all but guaranteed if it survives to your next turn, puts enough pressure on them to do the same. however the card is pretty useless against control. Rather than hate on cards when they are first spoiled, which I am in no way claiming you are doing, I try to find the optimal ways of using them or just making them useful.
Yep, it was on the top left and bottom right corners of the sheet and remained to blurry for any deciphering that I tried to find.
There's another unspoiled red rare yet to go, that was in the bottom right corner (both instances!). It looks like it's something like a Raid-dependent Hammer of Bogardan to me.

There is only 4 things left on the sheet.
The red rare pirate hold some sort of Cross bow with a shield
The last white mythic for WWW that team vampires use
The blue fish (plays the role of one of those sea monsters pirates tell in urban legend story's)
And a Dinosaur that involves attack or ETB trigger.
Okay, Captivating Crew is upsetting to me. It's a ludicrous, unbeatable bomb in limited, and unplayable in constructed. I *hate* cards like this. "Hey, you know what we really need for this set? A card that makes every limited game in which it shows up suck, but also in constructed is only good for the sorts of people who think it's hilarious to grief their kitchen table opponents." Cards like that should never be printed, ever.
Don't get me wrong, one of my very favorite things to do in Magic is steal stuff. What I hate is that this card isn't about stealing stuff. It's about suppressing the opponent's board. It isn't that much different from a card that says "3R: Destroy target creature."
It should have been "3R: Threaten a creature. Sacrifice ~ at end of turn." That would have been a cool, fun, swingy, powerful aggro card. For limited, this nonsense is not cool, not fun, outright oppressive, and obscenely overpowered in all the wrong ways.

That's the one I'm talking about. Art looks like a pirate ship ballista sort of thing, type line has no subtypes, the type-line word looks too short to be "Enchantment" (so likely Sorcery or Instant). Text looks like it could plausibly be "Resounding Barrage". Card has two paragraphs, second paragraph starts with keyword -dash-cost. My supposition is that it's an instant or sorcery with a raid-dependent graveyard-activated recovery clause (so a cross between Hammer of Bogardan and Bloodsoaked Champion.)
