I never thought I'd ask this about a Tolarian Academy reprint, but is this actually good enough to see play? I feel like taking T4 off for an effect that may net you treasure on T5 and *maybe* be an academy on T6 is not what Pirates wants to be doing.

The flip ability is what makes or breaks this card, as you can flip it the same turn it comes down if you have enough artifacts on board.
Well, you can't get the land untapped T1 with 4-5 other artifacts, so it's not quite as good as it's illustrious ancestor, but it still looks like a solid card.

It's slow, 4 mana, and clunky, Izzet. This is unquestionably a staple in URx EDH builds, but for Standard and Modern, its value is far less certain. You're going to need to hoard a ton of treasure in Standard. As for Modern, this is probably best suited for affinity, as you can get 5 artifacts quite easily and quickly, but I'm still unsure if Affinity wants this.
It's a good card, no doubt, but it seems best in EDH.

I dunno about Pirates, but I've got some Servos an Thopters that are certainly in the market for a mana engine.

Okay, I can see that; it almost feels like Temur Energy may be the best place, or Grixis tokens.

How are y'all missing the important part of this card? That's a mutha******* mech!
I admire the enthusiasm, but I am fairly certain that it is more likely a golem of sorts rather than a mech.

Breya stapple for sure.
Breya by herself gives you 3 of the 5, and something is horribly wrong if you don't have more artifacts than that sitting around.
So yeah, I agree.
I hope we get a BG Volrath's Stronghold.

PS: so now modern affinity is the new tron?
Okay, I can see that; it almost feels like Temur Energy may be the best place, or Grixis tokens.
Oh sure you can:
T1: Mox Ruby, Mox Sapphire, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Ornithopter, cast this card, flip end of turn
Because red is also an artifact-matters color.
I don't think either of those decks would be interested in paying four mana for anything.
And you follow it up by countering their T1 with a Spell Swindle. Its about sending a message.
