I'm usually disappointed by the UB cards in sets. Not this time. X is just awesome. Super cool ability, great flavor, fun art, A+ from where I'm sitting. I'm also in love with the art for Masterful Ninja. I can't find that sneaky ninja to save my life and I figure that's how it should be with a master ninja. I think Masterful Ninja proves that up until this point all printed ninjas have been mere journeymen.

It looks to me like there are feet sticking out from under the back curtain on the left. It seems too easy, and they are the same color as the floor, but I think you guys are trying too hard.
Unless you want to mataphorically say that the entire room is "the ninja", there's not a place in the art you can point to and say "here he is, the ninja is over here"
It's really not that hard, guys. Feet can clearly be seen under the curtain, and its shape is clearly more bulbous at the bottom than the others, demonstrating a huddled up figure. I could be wrong, though. It could just be an imperfection in the coloring.

Those are not feet. The artist failed to finish coloring the curtain.
There is no need to get snippy. I legitimately believed that you may have possibly been making this argument.
Anyway, the ninja (who is a troll, not a shade) obviously exists somewhere in the un-universe, but it is not in that art.
All I'm saying is, there is no reason whatsoever to give it that last ability (which is not at all a typical Ninja ability!) unless that's the whole point of the joke. It's more of a pun, less of a hidden visual joke.

You could be right. Certainly in the normal sized card image, that little spot is too small to really even see. I prefer the image as a puzzle with a findable answer, but the easier answer is that either the ninja is behind you, or it is so well disguised as to leave no visual cues. I'm fine with the riddle having multiple answers, but, those look like ninja feet to me.

I think its FAR more likely that the shape of the shade (bulged out at the bottom) and the shoes under the shade are intentional - rather than a professional artist just not completing their job. It's not like the art isn't checked by the art director for quality and the artists don't want to do a professional job. It's a big stretch (and pretty insulting) to suggest that the artist would simply *not* finish....

This creature is a shade. The art is a room full of pumps and shades.

I would not say that, and there's no need to invent false dichotomies.
Correct. But the Ninja is there, perfectly disguised as a shade (or pump), but with no way to know exactly where.
However, saying there's "no ninja" isn't right either, because the Ninja is a shade.

If they wanted to have a "pump-joke", I would expect the pumps to be more easily recognisable as such.
