noob question. if I have Delaying Shield and Gideon of The Trials in table, my opponent target my Gideon with a Lightning Bolt, can Delaying shield redirect the damage as counters to save my Gideon?
They can't target Gideon with Lightning Bolt. They target you and then redirect the damage to Gideon. This is important because the "redirect" is a replacement effect. And, Delaying Shield generates a replacement effect. Since you are the affected player, you get to choose which effect to apply first. If you apply Delaying Shield first, there will be no damage left to be dealt to Gideon.
Your opponent cannot target Gideon with Lightning Bolt, because Gideon is neither a creature nor a player. (Of course, they could target Gideon directly if you use his second ability, but he would prevent the damage because his ability says so.) Your opponent may target you with Lightning Bolt, and on resolution as a replacement effect, redirect that damage to Gideon.
If you control Delaying Shield and a Planeswalker, there are two replacement effects trying to modify a Lightning Bolt pointed at your face: the Delaying Shield, and the Planeswalker damage redirection rule. As the affected player, you choose the order in which the replacement effects are applied. You can either have DS apply first (in which case the damage is prevented and the second replacement effect no longer applies), or have the redirection apply first (in which case your opponent has the option to redirect the damage from you to Gideon, and if they don't, the damage is prevented by DS).
Just to cover our bases, the interaction as described above only applies to noncombat damage that would be dealt to an opponent. Combat damage is dealt to planeswalkers directly as an outcome of attacking the planeswalker, and can't be replaced by Delaying Shield.
This is also true of spells and abilities that would deal noncombat damage directly to a planeswalker such as Magmaquake or Chandra's Defeat - if the damage isn't headed for the player first, Delaying Shield will do nothing.
