You could ignore the tutoring altogether and run it with Boris Devilboon and discard outlets.
If you're not doing that, you don't really need too many demons for this to be decent value. It would certainly be a lot better if it tutored on ETB though.

And that's how you brew right.
I agree. This is how Commander is done right. Using unplayed jank to make something flavorful and functionally awesome. Love this synergy with Boris Devilboon.

"People are the worst. The worst thing about music is that people play it." - Mike Patton
This is the kind of card that makes an otherwise rather bad tribal "Something fun to consider". Demon Tribal will, due to the lack of low-curve options and a near-total absence of tribal synergy, never really be a thing on more competitive tables, but in more laid back settings, it can work.
Sadly, even then this still costs 4 mana AND has you wait a turn to capitalize AND goes back to your hand and not the battlefield. Oh well.
Oh geez, this takes me way back. I remember being happy to play this to find my Rakdos the Defiler in the early Kaalia days! MoC didn't exist then, and in general you had fewer cards you'd just shove into a Kaalia deck, so extra tutours like this one were easier justifications.
It's also kind of amusing that its self-sacrifice turns on Skirsdag High Priest, and then the token lets you recur it.
It's kind of a pointless synergy since (unless you tutor for Nameless Inversion or something) you can already recur it by playing the demon you tutored for, and there are easier ways to turn on morbid, but still.

Yep, my Kaalia was mostly very controllish back then. There were only a few demons that I'd consider. I didn't use this at the time for that reason.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

Not entirely pointless if your running it in a deck that isn't demon tribal as a tutor for a few key demons. You could feasibly run out of demons to find, and with the high priest he becomes essentially a demon token generator.

The Meaning of Life: "M-hmm. Well, it's nothing very special. Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations"
Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!

I played it literally just to find Rakdos back then. Turns out a one-shot Annihilate X was still good enough to force a concession.
Right, as some of you probably noticed over the past few weeks, updates have been spotty. Long story short; my motivation for Magic and EDH in particular has been obliterated lately. Combination of reasons really, stemming from some recent controversies, lack of interesting games at my LGS and some life changes (Positive ones there, mind).
As a result, I haven't been keeping up with this thread which turned from something fun into a chore. So...I'm going to go on a hiatus.
THAT SAID.
If somebody wishes to take over the RCOTD thread, they can shoot me a message. No need to be a mod for it, just know how to edit your own first post and you should be set. I'll be happy to help you set it up, in that case.
So yeah, sorry about the missed updates and the sudden end, but it is what it is.
