seeing how many people are running mental misstep these days and have how the meta has changed that a control NON tax GW is viable... and i made a variant from my MAV dec and its working fairly well now i need you guys to poke holes in it for me!!
game plan is to basically ramp turn 1... as usual... either mana dork, zenith arbor, Mox... so 7 total in the deck. then lock out opponent with bind / abeyance which both cantrip for more CA and keep a tempo beats game going...
i dont know which i like more between the green zenith with deck or solid #'s MD and a living wish Board... or as i am now a combo of both...
good info when going for the carbon copy MAV deck... i had it near identical to the one you posted and the other 400 lists on this thread... board with it and want a newer angle on the deck.
living wish is an incredible power as is zenith but offers more flexibility and can maintain a more solid MD so you dont draw a hand of you 1x of tool box creatures... which sux... i know first hand!
Life from the Loam is not a theme of the deck just another player that strengthens your tool box of lands that the knight of the reliquary brings into reach for you... and yes you want them in your grave but also by casting it once... and get back a wasteland , canopy, forest great CA... (this is speculating that your opponent is NOT killing your karakas / maze of ith) so dredge it back or not... your choice either way its solid...
{ EDIT: also LFTL is great for purging junk off the top of the deck when using sylvan library }
Swords to Plowshares... i want 4x in i really do!! but like you said i already run Low on creature's... and cutting any of the control / tutor spells would be even weaker...
Tarmogoyf doesnt have to be a 4x your completely right and i ws considering doing a split with Scavinging Ooze for some MD GY hate!! but i dont have them yet... then ill test it. and terravore is sweat but i want the 2 drop spots full... i have plenty of 3 drops imo.
the basic idea behind this build was to be 1 off custom enough to surprise my opponent and create misplays on his behalf...
please !! more critique!! if the junk im saying doesnt make sense let me know!!
thanks! my meta is really spread out, alot of zoo, merfolk, junk and the occasional fact or fiction deck, and my good friend also plays isochrome-chant deck. what do you suggest i run?
also, bop >> noble hierach in most cases from your experiences right?
Alright im confused as to the addition of rhox war monk and mangara, those 2 do seem good... but aren't those slots better if we give them to say... goyf? i don't understand why you say that this deck doesn't need arguably the most efficient beater in the format. Sorry, i'm not trying to cause an argument, just need a bit of explanation :X
I've put your list on the op together and find that it somehow isnt fast, and the threats i can get are usually a sworded knight, but thats about it. I think its due to my own inexperience at playing the deck.. can you provide me with some sample mindsets about how to play this deck and what kind of decisions to make?
i'm loving mindcensor in this deck, flash in as he activates fetchland or a tutor ftw!
and im guessing that there are alot of affinity in your meta? since u have tower....
and how is swiftfoot boots doing for you? i tried him out and WHOA, equip that on a knight and bash face for 7 ftw! i've even done it on a sworded BOP! awesome tech! however, why do u say preacher is so good? that card cant be GSZ out, aside from obviously drawing removal....
@Gambler I've been debating a single Putrid Leech the built in +2/+2 seems pretty good since most equipment has a lifelink/life gain aspect. I'd say he's probably a great goyf replacement for going against decks where you expect goyf to be 2/3 or 3/4 for the whole game but other than that, probably worse than many other options.
Good job, there were quite a lot of reanimator around. And for my part, Luklindas Maverick list wasn't optimal, i don't like NO that much in that deck anymore.
Agreed, after testing that first list (first time playing since GSZ was released) I have to agree that NO is very much a win-more card for maverick. Also, I didn't pack Scryb Ranger but the deck really seemed like it would benifit from fliers. Aven Mindcensor and Silhana Ledgewalker are the other choices I'm interested in testing for an evasive beater. Thoughts/feedback from other testers?
This thing is a huge percentage of the meta, but I never see it in the SCG final rounds, or at my local tournaments. Can someone link me to some successful tournament placements?

This.
I've yet to even play against this list, because to be honest most people do not call it maverick. It shares so many pieces and so many packages with other decks that most people would just as soon call it that other deck.
One of the decks in the primer has a blue splash, I'm pretty sure I would just call that BANT. Likewise I've seen versions of this that are pretty much just packages of other decks thrown together. Some include a batterskull package, some include a NO Progenitus package, and some even do a mangara/karakas taxes package.
Could someone put up a clear definition of what makes this deck not only different from other lists but makes it Maverick?
For instance:
Affinity is a deck that uses a bunch of artifacts that have synergy with each other to reduce costs and turn on metalcraft bonuses. It typically uses cards with the affinity ability and cards that benefit from a high artifact count. Cards typically seen in affinity are thoughtcast, ornithopter, cranial plating, Artifact lands.
High tide is a deck that uses the card high tide, draw, and untap effects to generate a high storm count and massive mana to win via a storm card, milling, or making your opponent draw your deck.
Protoaddict, my understanding of this deck is as follows: Maverick is a GW deck that uses Green Sun's Zenith and other accelerants, such as Natural Order and Aether Vial, to generate tempo with underpriced creatures (such as goyf, knight and heirarch) and virtual card advantage with cards like stone forge mystic. In addition, it uses GSZ with a "toolbox" of creatures to adapt to the current metagame.
I just haven't run into the damn thing, and I want to be ready for it by the big tournament in chicago.
Maverick is mainly making a showing in Europe, from what I've heard, which isn't truely indicative of its abilities in the U.S. Our meta is usually ahead of theirs and varies as such. I doubt it'll make any extreme showing unless the meta changes here to make it extremely viable, which I doubt as it doesn't have a clear way to deal with Hive Mind yet. If you're really worried about it, just see how the deck performs in the next few events, such as on SCG and the rest, then base your decisions from there. What deck are you running yourself, so we can predict how to attack it if needed.
I've never piloted the deck myself, but theoretically, I'd agree. At the same time though, if you have a plan already in the deck for Zoo and U/W Stoneblade, you should be able to theoretically combine the two to improve the MU. I see the deck as Zoo that decided to forgo burn to improve the Mystic package and play more controlish. I know that Zoo is not usually the best for Fish, but I'd say if you work on a list designed to already deal with Zoo, then Maverick should be easy enough to tackle.
Lol, merfolk doesn't "deal" with zoo. Merfolk suffers zoo. ;-)
But I agree with your analysis 100%. I just wanted to get some testing in. I've heard people recommend cursed totem for dealing with this deck, and it looks like an interesting idea to me. I really just don't know enough about this deck to know, though.

this deck can easily transition into a combo lock deck with isochron sceptor / solitary confinement as pieces ETC...
other stuff in the SB listed above is just ideas for wishing / beating / combo assist / and just plain SB options...

Because you can't spell slaughter without laughter.
That card seems really BA with Scryp Ranger, Knight and fetches.

I'm not really sure at the moment.
I was just wondering what everyone thought about it.
