Unfortunately, the development article detailing the creation of Sand Strangler mentioned Kavu specifically and citing it as unfun to play against and the mirror coming down to who pulled the trigger first, disavows it ever making it to Standard.

Modern - Cheeri0s (building), Belcher (building), Lantern (building), UW Control (building)
RIP Magic Duels. Wizards will regret what they did to you.
Cult of the Succubi Eating Kitten and Brotherhood of Hamsters - Zombie One/Hulking One - Brotherhood of Hamsters disapproves of Damage on the Stack amputation, the corruption of Mythics, and the "Major changes to Extended" in July 2010. You aborted our cards., but we approve of the Modern format. Even if it doesn't ha ve Carrion Feeder or Caller of the Claw in it.

Probably wouldn't see any play. The strength of Shaman is in destroying artifact lands and moxes. Since modern only has 1 artifact land (which is indestructible) and 1 mox it would be too slow.

It's not that there aren't targets, but that the decks where you would bring in a repeatable source of artifact removal don't have enough to be worth it over say Shattering Spree or Ancient Grudge. Aether Vial decks typically only have the vial (and you can also hit golem tokens to be fair), Chalice of the Void is probably going to be set on 1 so you need shaman out first and for it to not eat removal. Even then the other targets in the deck are things like Expedition map and Mind stone which they can crack. Even the ones with a high density of targets like Tezzerator/Affinity have the issue that Shaman costs a ton of mana against them for a lot of their targets. Destroying Cranial Plating costs 5 mana and Ensaring Bridge takes 7.
Shaman is a very powerful card for certain, but most of its power comes from formats with 0 CMC non-creature artifacts aplenty.

So many decks abusing cheating creatures into play in various different ways. Containment Priest seems like it should be mandatory in Modern these days as it still allows decks using tokens to do their thing, while stopping DIVERSE creature cheating effects in one card in a DIVERSE format. Plus, it's kinda the one missing link in my all-instant speed/flash brew
My question is why Prophetic Bolt? What exactly does that card do for Modern? I just see it as being way bad and way too slow.
I don't know exactly what it would do for Modern... But for my personal Draw-Go Control deck, the card would be extremely highly valued and would replace my 1-of Electrolyze, as it fulfils the same curve requirement of the deck, but is just way more powerful.
It will completely dominate the format and help Grixis Shadow be even more oppressive, a terrible idea imho.
Would it be good in Modern ? What deck can use it ?
Jund.
You can't even drop it on an empty board becuase it would just kill itself.
Are 4-drops even good in that deck anymore ?
I've seen Kalitas/Huntmaster and Olivia previously but they seem rather slow now.

There are plenty of targets for it:
1 thopter foundry
1 cranial plating
1 talisman of progress
1 grafdigger's cage
1 springleaf drum
1 engineered explosives
1 chalice of the void
1 ensnaring bridge
1 aether vial

gorilla shaman can't kill creatures.
I'm surprised that cursed totem hasn't been reprinted in a modern set. We have it on linvala, keeper of silence but she is too slow at 4 mana.

Is it weird I think Prohibit wouldn't be good enough for Modern?
