It is playable the same way that other expensive cards are playable in ramp decks. Jace, Cunning Castaway on the other hand is unplayable because it is just bad.
The problem with it though is that it can't win the game on its own and requires another card.
Ashes of the Abhorrent is pretty weak grave hate (certainly not on the level of Grafdigger's Cage or Rest in Peace), but it has a useful secondary mode. If you can get infinite ETB/death triggers, it gains you infinite life. Could be used in something like Enduring Renewal maindeck where it has the dual purpose of combo piece and grave hate.
Jace, Cunning Castaway has a bigger token, but weaker team boost than Nissa, Voice of Zendikar. Infinites with Doubling Season, but the problem is that you need to play Doubling Season first (5 mana), then Jace. It's not the first PW to infinite with Doubling Season, and it won't be the one that suddenly makes it a playable deck.
Kopala, Warden of Waves will replace Kira, Great Glass-Spinner in Merfolk, just because it's a Merfolk instead of a Spirit. Although I haven't seen Merfolk in quite a while.
Carnage Tyrant is the ultimate unkillable thing. It's like playing a Bogle with a bunch of auras all at once, except that it only takes 1 card in your hand instead of 4. I've seen Gaea's Revenge in some Valakut SBs, so it could see limited SB play.
Old-Growth Dryads looks good for Revolt Zoo. Kind of like Goblin Guide with no haste and a bigger drawback, but has a bigger body. The fact that the deck plays Reckless Bushwhacker means you can dump a Dryads and attack with it before your opponent gets a use out of the land, provided you don't run out the Dryads on turn 1 or 2. Being green is also good because you can play Hidden Herbalists -> Dryads -> Bushwhacker (while you couldn't if you had a red 1-drop and Bushwhacker).
Unclaimed Territory is extra/budget Cavern of Souls. It's tempting to try to cram 4 Cavern and 4 Territory into a deck, but that means that you have 8 colorless sources, so good luck playing SB cards that are not colorless/whatever creature type the main deck is.
No, Thrun is still the ultimate unkillable thing. Carnage Tyrant just dies to Verdict.
Thrun is the ultimate unkillable thing that ties up 2 of your mana every turn as it blocks an opposing Tasigur.
Thrun also only costs 4 mana. Carnage Tyrant might as well cost a billion mana. 6 mana is Modern is an insane mana cost. IF the card gets played, it may be a 1-2 of in the sideboard of ramp decks against Control. But even then I am still convinced Thrun is better.

What are the most common abilities Ashes of the Abhorrent can block ?
I want to see what advantage does it actually have over Grafdigger's Cage besides being an enchantment and occasionally gaining some life (and dodging Chalice on x=1 which is hardly relevant).

Bishop of Rebirth looks interesting, maybe as a 1x-of in Emeria decks as redundant copy of Sun Titan.
Is it better than Reveilark though ? (in decks without Eldritch Evolution)
I think UU steal your token at instant speed is something they wanted to avoid for Standard because of how that interacts with Embalm/Eternalize.
Knowing what option you need to name is a big deal against certain decks. Pithing needle is better in legacy where you need to shut things off on T1 but most of the things that need to be shut off in modern aren't really happening until at least turn 3.

I am playing Lantern Control against Eldrazi-Tron/BG Tron (my worst match-ups). I am on the draw. My opponent plays a Turn 1 Expedition Map. Sure as hell wish that Spyglass was a Needle now.

Sorcerous Spyglass: better Pithing Needle for only one extra mana. Could lantern control possibly use this?
Bishop of Rebirth: Pure value creature that doesn't die to either bolt or push. Although Sun Titan, for just a single more mana, is better in every way. Does the one mana make much of a difference?
Ruin Rader: best new bob variant. Can even draw you a card the turn it enters
Shaper's Sanctuary: fantastic sideboard card for many creature-based archetypes. even infect will love this
Tocatli honor guard: Could be enough pieces to make a torpor orb style deck with Haunted creatures or something. I would have said death and taxes, but it shuts down so many of your own cards that its not worth it.
Entrancing Melody: probably better Threads of Disloyalty, but with Fatal Push causing creatures with huge CMCs to become popular, likely wont steal much. Gone are the days of tarmogoyfs everywhere
Old Growth Dryads - mono green stompy? Otherwise worse than Wild Nacatl. A death sentence vs valakut
Unclaimed Territory: Budget cavern of souls. For players with no budget concerns, can still function as additional caverns.
Deadeye Tracker: bears some similarities to Deathrite Shaman, although not anywhere near as good of course. Still decent grave hate on a dude
Deeproot Champion - reminds me of Quirion Dryad. Might see play, but likely to be just worse goyf
Kopala - id imagine this will fit right into merfolk lists

Spyglass might replace 1 Pithing Needle in Lantern. That's as good as I think it's gonna get. 2 mana is a huge cost for Lantern, and I don't think Spyglass does enough to make the one mana worth it over Needle.
Bishop is also a lot worse than Sun Titan, not only does it only trigger on attack, but it only gets creatures. In this case Titan is leagues beyond Bishop in power level, and I think Bishop is too weak for Modern play.

But now you can look at their hand and know if you should name karn, ugin, or o-stone. Knowing your opponents hand is very valuable information, especially for lantern.
Let's say you were on the play instead. Would you just Drop needle T1 and name map blindly?

Now, on turn 1 I'd play Lantern, or Thoughtseize, or Inquisition. All of those would give me the information I need to make my needle play the next turn. The only turn 1 play I'd have where I would have no information on my opponent's hand would be if I played Ancient Stirrings. Which is why at best I think Spyglass may replace 1 Needle in the Lantern 75. But no more than that. The extra mana really isn't worth it

Ruin Raider is a bad Dark Confidant. That being said a dark confidant can still be a good card. Presumably fuctioning as dark confidant number 5 to 8. Also to note that it triggers at the end of the turn. That is quite good. If the oponents tap out you can garantee a card. With 8 dark confidants you can probably grind out a lot of card advantage.
There are currently two shells that run dark confidant very well. Some form of Rock (GB possible X) or white black death and taxes or white black eldrazi death and taxes. Both of these arch types can support enough creatures to trigger the attack.
It will also be exiting to see if some form of GB with 8th card draw creatures can support Aether Vial. Something like:
That is around 28 cards with the vials. Ad removal and discard as usual. Could be interesting to battle the enemy in both sice (big green creatures) card draw (confidants) speed (aether vial, and the sice of our creatures) and premium hand disruption and spot removal.

Is it better than Reveillark though ? (in decks without Eldritch Evolution)
Settle the Wreckage might be playable as a conditional instant speed 4-mana wrath, the drawback doesn't seem too bad.
Regisaur Alpha doesn't look too bad though lacks the utility of P&K/Thragtusk/Huntmaster.
Carnage Tyrant is a good hard to kill finisher for non-valakut ramp decks.
Shapers' Sanctuary is cheap enough to warrant consideration but I'm not sure what deck would really want this.
Tocatli Honor Guard can add consistentcy to the Torpor Orb/Hushwing Gryff fun deck.
Is Kinjalli's Sunwing playable as a flying Imposing Sovereign ?
It is also not legendary unlike Thalia, Heretic Cathar but is otherwise much worse.
I think UU steal your token at instant speed is something they wanted to avoid for Standard because of how that interacts with Embalm/Eternalize.
Obviously Ashes turns off Snapcaster Mage, Conflagrate and Haunted Dead in Dredge, but outside of those I can't think of much else it turns off. It doesn't stop the triggered abilities of Bloodghast or Prized Amalgam.
Battle Bob may see fringe play, but it doesn't seem that good honestly.
