when I was running black my manabase was almost identical, except I didn't have cavern of souls. It never gave me any problems except when a bloodmoon came down.
Impact tremors is a trap. Trust me. It's no good. One damage is no Good. Every time you want to draw it you wished it was purphorous. Lingering souls is no good in this deck and if you run crackling doom you can't run genesis chamber. I've been working on a version that splashes black and it just doesn't seem as powerful as the two colour version
I'm not 100% sure on how much of a trap Impact Tremors is--1 damage per Norin/critter sucks compared to 2 damage, but I've found that this deck does have some trouble hitting 4 mana (when I tested Mastery of the Unseen in this deck, it took surprisingly long before I had enough mana to activate it for the first time).
you can really push the ETB effects for this deck with Impact Tremors and/or Outpost Siege. A rather complicated version i am brewing is Mardu Norin... the black splash is for Lingering Souls and Crackling Doom. I sneaked in a lone Soulfire Grandmaster as a win more condition.
Yes. 4 mana is difficult to hit. So its a toss up between possible card advantage / utility burn or straight up ping with Norin.
As long as you do not rely on Impact Tremors/Outpost Siege as the primary wincon then it wouldn't be a trap. Believe me, I tried it myself and Champion of the Parish, Ajani's Pridemate, etc is the way to go. You still win via creatures and the enchantments are for support only. By the way, I think it will be much better running Purphoros, God of the Forge instead of Outpost Siege
Purphoros is a great card for Boros Sisters strategies too. At this point, I do not think there is a "best" option but more of which card works best for you. =)
Going turn 1 Norin and turn 2 Impact Tremors and turn 3 2 Sisters (or Auriok Champion) might win you the game right there.
Having purphoros more then once in hand or one in hand and one on board creates a dead card, so i guess having one purphoros and then filling the rest with outpost siege makes for better hands and draw overall. that way, you never ever have bad cards. Also, outpost can kinda help ping creatures in a controlish way and purphoros is only against opponents. Not always useful, but variety in cards that fill the same role is good. In its own way, having, if you have a bolt, norin and outpost siege, you're good against twin. They play deceiver on your turn, on their turn they play twin, so norin goes out, ping one on deceiver, bolt for 3 and thats one sad twin player. Not saying purphoros is worst, but a case can be made for outpost siege.

Yep, you might win but it is still a long shot. You are only dealing 1 damage per turn and bigger creatures will swarm you. If you rely on IMpact Tremors it won't be enough to finish your opponent. Lets say that is your scenario and you are playing against a BGx opponent. By turn three and with an ideal hand they would have been attacking you with a bigger creature than Norin and the Soul Sisters. Keep in mind that they also have Abrupt Decay and Liliana of the Veil which can possibly take out Norin.
I have been n your scenario and I can say that the deck is better if you are attacking rather than let the ETB trigger be your initial win con. On the scenario I'd rather play a turn 2 Champion of the Parish or Ajani's Pridemate so I can attack on turn three with a possible damage to the opponent or taking out a creature rather gain 3 life and hit the opponent for 3 via passive damage. On turn 4 I can attack and will have a bigger creature if it didn't die the previous turn again but in your scenario it is not guaranteed that you will be able to deal 2 damage to your opponent via Impact Tremors.
I'm not saying Impact Tremor is bad cause in fact I use it. It's just that you don't initially rely on it to win the game which will make it a trap as EirikirTheRouge quoted.

The reason I stopped using impact tremors was because I found it was almost worthless to play early in the game before putting down a genesis chamber and I would much rather be putting down a Purphorus in the late game to close things out quickly. It was an awkward card a 2cmc, as I usually wanted to drop 2 creatures, or a Pridmate turn 2 to have some board presence. Also, I feel like devoting more than 2 slots in the mainboard to cards like Purphoros and Impact tremors is just too much on the deck, and if I'm only going to have 2 I'd rather it be the God than tremors.
Not to mention that Purphoros, God of the Forge is kinda hard to remove. It doesn't fall victim to Inquisition of Kozilek (some choose this over Thoughtseize or they run both at times), Abrupt Decay (has over 3 CMC and is indestructible), and ties in with other destroy enchantment hate. Most games once I get him out he pretty much stays out the whole game. Now Impact Tremors can get ruined by all this and in my opinion also falls under the awkward two CMC drop where I would rather play either another creature or a spell instead of this.

I might go this route too, but for now that I am building a traditional deck (beatdown strategy) my least priority would be Purphoros and Impact Tremors takes it slot. I am currently getting the creature pieces of the deck except for the sisters since I already have them.
Blueberry provided good points on running the God vs IT.
Anafenza has lots of minor misgivings which pile up quickly.
1) can't be casted off Cavern set to Human.
2) doesn't trigger off tokens, i.e. Genesis Chamber. Soul sisters, Mentor, Purphoros etc have no such restrictions.
3) you always have to choose the creature with the lowest toughness. Sometimes that means Norin, which is useless since he can't attack/block, and will just lose the counter when he blinks out.
This is my deck that I've been running. Any suggestions? I've gone for a more aggressive/persistent deck since there's so much hate in my local meta.
Personally, I feel this deck has great matchups vs Zoo/Junk/Twin/Burn/Affinity but falls to linear combos like tron, scapeshift, storm, bloom titan.
I really want to move away from Genesis Chambers, I don't like it's dependence on Norin. For me, Norin is there as a bonus rather than a core. I've previously tried to move away from Ajani Pridemates, but I feel champions + ajanis can move out of bolt range quickly and provide great board presence (and confidants + sisters soak up bolts/paths usually).
I really like the fact that cavern of souls - human hits everything bar the pridemates.
I'm not sure if Bloodsoaked Champion is a good aggressive threat but it can come back consistently with Norin attacking/flickering himself. Also, I hate the feeling that Genesis Chamber + Norin is what defines Norin even though he can pump champions + pridemates (with sisters). Was wondering if there are any other ways I can exploit Norin outside of sister/champion/etb purph...
So far ranger and purphorous have always felt good to draw but 20 lands seems to be a bit low especially with 8 fetches. I don't have any problems with my mana base despite running 3 colours (only black sources are 4 caverns + 1 blood crypt + 1 godless).
I quite like my sideboard, but always feel like thalia, grand abolisher, rest in peace, supression field, etc all have a place somewhere...
Am I being too overprotective with mark of asylum + bloodsoaked champ + aurioks?
My instants and sorceries feel about right but what about lightning helix, dismember, terminate/dreadbore...
I really dislike your land base. Bloadsoaked champion can't have his raid ability paid for by caverns, so you need your bloodcrypt of godless shrine to use him fully. I think if you are only using fetches from standard you should probably at least have 1 or 2 bloodstained mire in there to help fetch the bloodcrypt.I would recommend running 21 land, fit in either another fetch or basic swamp to combat bloodmoon tricks
I think bloadsoaked champion is a really nice inclusion in this deck. He can constantly be brought back, unless exiled, and just swinging into blockers is fine, because we want him to trigger our ETB's. its a good inclusion in Black..
I'm surprised that you're only running 7 sisters, and 4 of them are auriok champions. how has that been going for you? does it slow the game down for you or is the survivability of the auriok champions just worth it?
what do you usually cast engineered explosives for? is it for opposing token decks?

Great point about not being able to pay for the raid ability with cavern of souls, I will definitely fix the mana base and I like the inclusion of Bloodsoaked Champion as well. It fits perfectly into the deck's one drops.
I prefer the auriok champions to the soul sisters due to their resilience. Sisters have always died way too easily, at worse electrolyze. I'll list the main two play scenarios for both:
Turn 3 is usually: Another 1 CMC + Boros in hand for removal protection/or big double strike (OR) Another 2 CMC + bolt/path to clear chump block.
Since we want to play Parish first 99% of the time, I feel the only advantage for soul sisters is that turn 2 ajani (drawing a sister midgame feels terrible). I don't ever find myself digging for a sister with Ranger since I will likely already have one on the board or a resilient Auriok. That's my take on it, please feel free to disagree and discuss.
Engineered Explosives is strictly my answer to tokens which is quite prevalent at my LGS meta, electrickery doesn't seem to do enough (especially if I draw it mid game and they have an honor of the pure/intangible virtue already down). It can also smash down merfolk - 2cmc. It feels alot more flexible than electrickery that's all.
As for blood moon, I'm not actually worried about it cause at worse it locks me out of dark confidant/bloodsoaked (which I may already have played anyways).
I disagree with playing a swamp as a measure against blood moon, because the downsides of having a swamp in the opening hand outweighs the upside of a potential blood moon match up where it doesn't affect the core of the deck anyways. There are notable cues when the opponent is setting up for blood moon so I just crack fetches for plains. WR is my main colour base.
Infact, I am trialing blood moon magus (another human) in main/side to see how effective it is.
Anyways, thanks for the comments. Will definitely fix up the base for bloodsoaked raid ability with bloodstained mires/crypts/shrines/mesas.
I agree with the manabase - I don't want to run blood crypt and I don't need black sources outside of 2 godless shrines + 4 x cavern of souls. I'm sticking to 3 plains.
Boros charm is amazing, i value it over path and bolt. Each of the choices are very relevant and game changing.
Also, as mentioned earlier, I like norin due to his resilience (same with auriok) but I feel the chamber interaction is a win-more situation. Norin + chamber himself isn't a great combo, it requires soul sister + ajani OR purphorous to really take off and each of these are like a 3-4 card combo...
Norin + Purph is great but it's such a long term investment and you never really want to run more than one purph. It is important to remember that with 20 lands, turn 4 - 4 drop is unlikely (especially with fetch land thinning).
Primarily, I think Dark Norin sisters is a beatdown deck with resilience (norin/bloodsoaked/caverns/auriok) and the pumps are non-reliant on other cards (eg enchantments, instants). I feel the bloodsoaked champion fits into this theme very well as another ETB and beatdown card.
I guess I'm trading fancy ridiculous combo engines for more consistency.
Just a small tip for those running Cavern of Souls: Depending on your hand/board state, you might be better off naming 'Soldier' than 'Human' if you really need to land a Pridemate or a Legion Loyalist. Same goes for Purphoros fans - calling 'God' can be a lifesaver in control matchups.
You lose uncounterable Soul Sisters (and Confidants for the black splashers), but Champion, Ranger, and Mentor still work.
Has anyone tried aether vial in this deck? Is it necessary or would it just be clunky? Could free up mana for more mentor triggers or purphoros Triggers.
I've moved out of black for the moment as bobs were competing heavily for the 2 cmc slot as well as being out-valued in a delver/twin meta with electrolyzes running around.
Brave the elements has actually been amazing both as protection and to swing through chump blockers. I'm contemplating whether or not to swap paths to dismembers.
Dark Norin is working great. At worst, Dark Confidant trades 1 for 1 and saves removal from your growing parish. At best, left unchecked it provides insane fuel.
I loveKolaghan's Command in the Dark Norin build. Anyone tested Outpost Siege yet? Especially in an R/W build. It feels a bit unnecessary when having access to Bob, but in R/W gives you an option that feels like a minor version of Bob when choosing Khans or Purphoros when choosing Dragons. With the latter being able to ping creaures, too.

A hobby is by defenition something you're not any good at - otherwise it'd have been your work. Magic is my biggest hobby so I mustn't be very good at it.
Keep in mind that my Dark Norin version is very different to other Dark Norin versions who run up to 2 full sets of sisters and full set of pridemates. The argument for not running mentor of the meek is quite weak as the whole premise behind Dark Norin is running the bobs over mentor.
These are the reasons why I run no pridemates and minimal sisters:
Pridemates - Not human (no synergy with Champion) and cannot be cavern of soul'd unless you choose soldier which is suboptimal. No direct synergy with Norin (requires a sister out, which is a 3 card combo). Fights for the 2 cmc slot (against bob, chamber, auriok + can be spell snared even with cavern out) and doesn't provide initial threat unless a sister is out turn 1 which imo is a weak play and demands too many slots from the deck to make consistent.
Sisters - Demands too many slots while also being vulnerable to spot removal like electrolyze from grixis delver and twin. Requires resiliency to be worth it and that resiliency is found in Auriok Champion, which is actually a winning card against alot of the prevalent match ups - twin, delver, burn. I run the lone soul's attendant just to give me a toolbox kit with ranger of eos depending on the current state of the match.
I definitely agree with you on the strenght of Auriok Champion, sometimes I think that I should take out 1 little sister to put a third champion in my list.
I run at least 2 mainboard. I am quite keen to run 3 as it is very resilient.
I loveKolaghan's Command in the Dark Norin build. Anyone tested Outpost Siege yet? Especially in an R/W build. I run 1 Outpost Siege, 1 Purphorus and 1 Impact Tremor in my R/W deck. I really like Outpost Siege because I have the option of going card advantage or damage. I also do not run Mentor of the Meek so I can pile on other utility cards like Boros Charm.
I've been playing a budget build of this deck and its great fun.
Worst matchup is tron, all you can do is sideboard in your best hate and pray...
That having been said, a little blood moon goes a long way - shame its so damn expensive.
What are peoples thoughts on a more aggressive list with extra pingers such as Blasting Station or Impact tremors?

Turn 1 Champion of the Parish, Turn 2 Dark Confidant is probably the best proactive play this deck can really make.
Black also opens you up to terminate over path to exile and the ever-increasing-in-prevalence kolaghan's command.
Even Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek may be the right approach.
Here is my current list:
4x Auriok Champion
4x Champion of the Parish
4x Dark Confidant
1x Legion Loyalist
4x Norin the Wary
2x Purphoros, God of the Forge
2x Ranger of Eos

4x Cavern of Souls
4x Flooded Strand
2x Godless Shrine
2x Plains
3x Sacred Foundry
2x Kolaghan's Command
4x Lightning Bolt
2x Path to Exile
Artifact (4)
4x Genesis Chamber
Sorcery (4)
2x Inquisition of Kozilek
1x Return to the Ranks

I run the lone soul's attendant just to give me a toolbox kit with ranger of eos depending on the current state of the match.
I run at least 2 mainboard. I am quite keen to run 3 as it is very resilient.
I run 1 Outpost Siege, 1 Purphorus and 1 Impact Tremor in my R/W deck. I really like Outpost Siege because I have the option of going card advantage or damage. I also do not run Mentor of the Meek so I can pile on other utility cards like Boros Charm.

Worst matchup is tron, all you can do is sideboard in your best hate and pray...
That having been said, a little blood moon goes a long way - shame its so damn expensive.
What are peoples thoughts on a more aggressive list with extra pingers such as Blasting Station or Impact tremors?
