Went 4-0 on FNM, loosing one single game pre-board vs. Ad Nauseam.
Towards some card choices:
- Hangarback Walker:
With multiple ways to search for cards with CC=0 (Trinket Mage -> Map -> Transmute Tolaria West actually winning me a game), this guy has been on my Watchlist for a while. Won games.
- Trophy Mage:
This girl finds a lot of hate that is important now, like 3sphere or Crucible with LD-lands.
- Planar Bridge:
This card also seemed useful to me in a Tron Deck. It is. 1st target is usually Ugin, but an EOT Emrakul is also great.

Hangarback Walker is like a colorless Lingerling Souls in my experience. A slow clock, but against Shadow Decks (or generally, Decks with Fatal Push, Terminate and Abrupt Decay as removal), the tokens left behind buy a lot of time. So Ballista is nice against a full board with many x/1 creatures, and the Walker vs few big creatures (Shadow, Goyf and midrange Eldrazis).
You are right, there is a variance with Gemstone Caverns - but there is even a variance in 4-offs! I personally am happy enough to have 2 in my 60 after boarding (when on the draw ofc.) sometimes you hit, sometimes you don´t. The worst thing that can happen is that you either have a colorless source or have a discard target for Thirst for Knowledge.
Since I have 2 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon Main, there is no need for more sweepers tbh. At least not what I´ve experienced over the last weeks whilst testing it. Another E.E. is debateable - but I would rather cut something else if really needed.
I have now tested the exact same list i´ve mentioned in #13454 for the complete last week, did 3 competitive leagues online and one 80 man tourney offline. It really did AMAZING.
I´ve finished:
Online:

vs Skek Red 2-0
vs Grixis Ctrl 2-0

I really have no Idea when I was satisfied with my list like that in the past. Sure - SB is depending on the meta, but for me it feels like the mainboard split´s work really well. Even 2/2/2 Remand/Supreme/Dismember.
E: The only thing I am thinking about is to add a second chalice to the side, so a total count of 3 in my 75.
A thought came to me as im riding the train: could Coax from the Blind Eternities be viable in the deck? Im thinking of a 3/4 cards dedicated to the card.
Ulamog for removal
Emrakul for Mindslaver
Reality Smasher for those last points of damage
And Thought-Knot Seer for a thoughtseize effect.
Alternatively a All is Dust since its a sweeper that you can get with it.
So the other 10-12 ish cards needs to be more concentrated on the really bad matchups.
But i guess this is more of a win more strategy and has already been discussed.
Still, i do find it interesting as an option.
And then getting a Wrath as a sorcery for Snappy ain't that bad.

Very interesting, nice toolbox deck! The planar bridge is the part that has my particular curiosity. I mean, Emrakul has been out of tron for a long time for its "uncastability", especially since Eye of Ugin was ban. But with planar Bridge, cards like this could again "be a thing". Also, it matches perfectly our general plan, because it is instant, so EoT. U-Tron performs especially well when we know our owns threats while arguing with ourselves about countering something or not; Planar bridge is tutorable and it makes our EoT threats uncounterable.
The question now is what to cut for this kind of cards, but the is a question for another post, gtg!
I actually replaced the 2nd Ugin with the Bridge in my "mental construction" of this list. I thought tutoring Ugin into play is possible, and when adding Emrakul, the cheat becomes important for most of times, you can have 8 mana but 15 is still a way to go (and to survive).

Well, I like the approach in general and if it works for you, stick with it!
But what I was thinking about is, if Trophy Mageis really worth it, especially mainboard. In G1 it can only tutor O-Stone so it can be a dead draw really, really fast. The first option would be putting him SB and boarding him along with the other 3cmc artifacts you put in.
The second option would be replacing him with a fabricate, which also improves tutoring all other artifacts - I don´t think the 2/2 body is that important in your specific list with Hangarback walker and stuff.
Im also considering a Hangarback Walker, instead of my third Repeal. And im also gonna test a Torrential Gearhulk.
Also, i went 2-2-1 last night during modern monday.

****, first time i'ce faced the deck and he has 10 power on turn 2, 13 on the following turn.
Ihad tron on turn 8 through a map search and a condescend scry for 0 on his faithlesslooting after the landfinding from map.
Drew from, the top and ny outs was Rift, Ugin and O-stone but no such luck.
Snappys block on turn 2 did buy me a turn!
Brought in grafdiggers cage and surgical plus some cheaper counterspells like spellpierce. I had an ok 6 card habd with map and lands, a counterspell.
He had 1/land and faithlesslooting on turn 1 then no lands until turn 4 ish. I managed to stabilize and i then had spellburst up, he scooped. I did manage to surgical his Amalgam on turn 2 and checked his sideboarding.
3 nature'claim and 4 Ancient Grudge.
1-1
He had a pretty good start and i managed to survive at 3 life with an o-stone abd turned it around. Spell burst did its work!
Im now 2-0!
Then i faced a bant humans deck that had Knight of the Reliwuary but without Landdestruction package.
I was kinda annoyed when i mindslavered him to destroy his own manabase but to no avail.
First time iw as sad not to find a Ghost Quarter or tec edge.
Don't have much i fo here but i did punt on the last turn and game. I topdecked trinket Mage, tutored for a map and got a Academy Ruins but passed the turn since i was afraid he would destroy the land, only had 1 blue source which i used on mage, but i HAD to play it that turn to use it in my upkeep if i could survice his 5/5 knight.
But he top decked that bounce mage for 3 and i lost.
Oh yeah abd i mulled to,5 both games.
2-1.
Last matchup was the uwb Obzedat control deck with baby jace.
Interesting deck, how it goes around Goryo's drawback.
First match i mulled to 5, lost, it was too fast.
Killed jace but he got ut back with goryos.
Second match i managed to stabilizie and he miscounted o-stone, thought i had 7 but i had 8.
I grinded him out with Wurmcoils.
Also, i didn't think Rain of Tears was modern legal.
We had 2,5 min left on the third game and decided to play it out and no scooping since it was a league.
I really like the deck, but i was so tired, had barerly slept.
Its a Nice change from playing RG tron for 6-7 years.
Trophy Mage main is intended to be a chump-blocker that brings up O-Stone, and if drawn afterwards, can be binned to Thirst. Post-board she has her time to shine. And if I won't bring in any CC=3 artifacts, I'd board her out, too. I am already thinking about adding an Ensnaring Bridge to the SB.
About the overall build: I am really impressed by the performance, and will try on with the Planar Bridge / Emrakul tech.
Greetings
Edit: I am also a long time GR Tron Player. But because of that, my rather small local Meta now is somewhat hostile to that - I used to win/place TOP3 very often - with many Combo and some Burn Decks showing up now. My MU's last FNM were 2 times Combo, 1 UB Mill and 1 5C Shadow.
So the Combo MU is usually splendid with U Tron, and Burn still better than with GR Tron, like any Shadow variant. I guess I'll get quite some practice with U Tron now, because my next alternative Deck would be Taking Turns. That would be even worse against my current Meta lol.
Edit2: The Bridge's major advantage is being a 2nd copy of any game-changer, more than just Ugin. Getting to untap with it means to have any option, from securing to be alive via Platinum Angel to winning via Slaver, Titan or Emrakul - on Instant speed.
Guys, any advice on playing against Humans? It really feels like a 90%/10% winratio against us..
I don't know what your list is so it's hard to tell, but pre-SB it's nearly impossible. Their clock is way faster and it comes with uncounterable creatures (also Thalia). Any tribal based decks with 4x Cavern and 4x Vial is a hard matchup for us. But you can fine-tune your SB to make it better. Post-SB get rid of your counterspells in replacement for removals. Snapcasters are amazing too as you can block and re-use your removal. I actually went up to 2x Snapcasters main because of the meta shift and it's been helping out a lot. 2x O-Stone is nice, but meddling mage is annoying. AEtherize is cool too, but good players will play around it. I think All is Dust might actually be quite viable in this matchup as people don't usually anticipate it. Land destruction is also one of the best ways to fight against Humans. I bring in Spreading Seas for this reason. Get them off White mana.
Hey guys,
First time I post here. I’m playing a lot of UW Gifts Tron. So far, I really like the deck. Elesh Norm and Iona are giving me a lot of free win. The Wrath/Gifts package (Wrath, Supreme and Day) is also very good. However, U Tron seem to be more played. Is there any reason for this ? I have no experience with the deck and I do really wonder if it’s more competitive. Thanks in advance for your input.
