What decks is Surgical Extraction good against? I don't understand how it is good against Tron unless we have our Ghost Quarter / Tectonic Edge and I don't get how it is good against Valakut decks unless combined with land destruction. Is there something I'm missing? Wouldn't spreading seas fill a similar role in those matchups?

I've used it to great effect vs tron and infect both by extracting their threats. Surgical on a countered Karn, wurmcoil, glistener elf, blighted agent. And you've cut a large chunk of their game plan.
when i watch people play against mono u tron in person or online i am reminded just how clueless people are of what this deck plays and what this decks game plan is, lol
I'm the guy that was 3-0 and played the Ballistas. It was a test and I really liked it. It shores up some issues I'd been having with the deck. Spatial is a fine card but the Ballistas are totally different. Can be tutored for, reused through Academy and are useful in many matchups where Spatial is not. Pings Bobs, Bobs and Nobles. Is a great manasink lategame and a beatstick. Can attack when Stony Silence is out. Can come down early as blockingfodder and grow when Tron is assembled. I'm sold. Went 4-2 by the way. Wins against BW tokens, Lantern, Grixis and Bant Spirits. Losses against BUG and Affinity.
with a local meta like that also mortarpod looks like a great card
Hi, first time poster to this thread. I have been learning U-Tron for the past couple of weeks at my LGS, trying to make it my deck of preference.
Just wondering if anyone else has tested with Planar Bridge?
I had it win me a few games this week at FNM where I had it fetch me Sundering Titan or Ugin, the Spirit Dragon to stabilise and eventual pull out the win.
Also, in one game I used it and Minamo, School at Water's Edge, to set up the Mindslaver lock midgame, by fetching the extra tron lands, Academy Ruins and Mindslaver on my opponents end steps.
Was just wondering if I could get opinions from the experienced U-Tron players who hang out in here.
I like it, but sometimes it has felt a little to fancy.
If anything I imagine planar bridge would compete for a spot with mindslaver. I think its probably worse seeing as I'd rather just have mindslaver. Treasure mage already fulfills a very similar purpose. For 2U you get a blocker and tutor whatever you need. Long story short I think its too slow in deck that can't really afford to be since we are often already behind and we need our win cons to stabilize us immediately.
On another note I ran a 24 land 2 talisman build to a 25 man modern tournament last night. Record 3-1-1 with a loss in the top 8. Brief report as follows and I may add a decklist if anyone is interested later.
1-1 U tron mirror match. He's on some sort of weird egg combo which just really dragged on the games.
2-0 Esper Tapout Control(Geist build)
2-0 Infect. Chalice on 1 both games. 2 dismember in the mainboard were also key here.
0-2 Eternal witness/primal command His combo was too fast and I did't draw enough kill spells to take out his dorks. Have to be aware of vexing shusher.
2-1 Brown Eldrazi: Countermagic kept him off his gameplan. 2 Spreading seas out of the sideboard.
1-2 Esper Draw Go: Close game for the top 8. I couldnt fight through his secure the wastes clock backed up with countermagic. G3 my chalice on 1 to stop his path to exile killed me as I proceeded to draw 3 maps and 1 relic of progenitus.
What are your thoughts on fabricate as a one of in the list? It can fetch everything the treasure mage can plus silent arbiter, batterskull, chalice, and jester's cap from the board.

@Squelch_Your_Fetch I love your username, been there done that, it was fun. Even better is squelching lantern of insight sac effect when they see chalice on top of your deck
Hey so quick question. How does everyone feel on Tormod's Crypt vs Relic of Progenitus for SB grave hate. I've always used Relic and thought it was better, and I still do think it's better out of context, but I'm running 2 chalice MB so I'm rethinking that one. Do our chalices make Tormod's Crypt better?

Personally I use Tormod's. You'll miss the card draw but at least it only hits your opp's yard.

I tried it on my phone (using some third party app. Sshh). It was very slow for my build and it really doesn't help with the aggro match-up either. But it was fun tutoring for Emrakul at your opp's EOT.
I can definitely see Baral as a 1 of. Its a little extra card draw, and a nice lil chump blocker. He probably wont make the cut though, as we would rather remand/anticipate for 2 mana most of the time.

yeah its probably not a good fit, but its always worth trying cause things can be surprising sometimes.

yeah i dont see him having a place in this deck. just not enough upside to gamble having him bolted the turn he's played.
i went down to 2 surgicals... seems okay. can still snag tron lands or valakut
I'm running 1 surgical in the sideboard along 1 jester's cap and a secondary ghost quarter which I bring in against tron. Would the second surgical over the cap or vice versa be any better?

I like both. Seas cantrips and allows for surgical to be used on threats. Plus I like having multiple avenues of attack.
