I prefer forked bolt because it can kill 2 toughness minions and also gives extra reach. The downside of it being a sorcery is pretty minimal since most of the time we are tapped out on the first few turns. But in a field crowded with 1 thoughness creatures, I can see those options being better indeed! Also vs inkmoth nexxus and blinkmoth nexxus, forked bolt feels bad.
I will for sure suggest Grafdigger's Cage to my friend, since there seems to be some living end and graveyard strategies at his lgs.
Pithing needle seems also good for problematic cards for us. However I really dislike Torpor Orb. It basically kills our own deck... I can see its upside, but I feel like the downside is too great to be worth it.
Ratchet Bomb seems okayish to kill something that costs 2 mana, but at 0 and 1 I feel we hit more of our stuff than theirs. Yes it kills a chalice, but it will also kill our tokens and 0 cmc creatures. Might as well have a destroy artifact spell. But could be good vs certain decks I guess.
And yes land hate doesn't seem as good in this deck as traditional goblin, unless you're in a meta where you can punish your opponents real hard with it, otherwise it seems pretty slow indeed.
And with Kari Zev's Expertise you can't whack unless you're mana flooded on 4-5 lands, but still the free one drop can add one or two dmg which can be relevant + the dmg of the stolen creature itself. It can be a really big swing turn, especially vs decks who only have 1 creature by turn 3. I think I will keep one in the sideboard for these reasons.
I think Gruul is one of the strongest color combinations for Gobots.
Really? I still play Gobots on MTGO and I manage to pull out wins. But, to be honest, I play more Pyro Prison and Robots than I do Gobots. I guess I am so pleased with my version and overall success with it that I rather sharpen my skills on other decks. On the flip side, I will be taking my Gobots to the Oklahoma Modern GP. I doubt I'll win anything other than a handshake or two, but I love the gobos.
When I get some time tomorrow, I'll throw some feedback at your deck.
But in the mean time, can you explain Claim//Fame to me? I see it working for Signal Pest, but not Whackers. What is it's primary target?
///EDIT///
Have you tried goblin fanatic and foundry street denizen? Those two cards have been good starters in traditional builds. And, since traditional is slower I've found it needed to help control the board and fanatic helps do that. But, I don't know if you are trying to dance around Chalice of the Void. If that is the case, I would suggest dropping Rakdos and go Gruul for Tin Street Hooligan mainboard. Then, you would have access to Atarka's Command. If you want to go bigger I've posted a list with Simian Spirit Guide, Pyretic Ritual, and Desperate Ritual. This support allows you to drop goblins you never thought possible and your out of Void range.
Oh man, that local FNM specific tech building i.e. Marrow Shards is a tad bit short sited if his only target is your deck, but that is my opinion. You can counter that, but I don't known if you care to tech you reserves to counter Marrow Shards.
You bet, and that makes sense as to what targets you are using claim//fame for.
My experience with Spike Jester is limited, but I have used him. I found him to be a great addition in a more traditional list because you can control the board more, which allows him to swing in for damage. So, since you have had trouble with Auntie, I'm going to suggest Mogg Fanatic again only because he helps clear the board for your attacks. And, I would look into Frienzied Goblin for added evasion. Its these small things that help close the match.
I went to Modern Monday with 20-lander, 7-whack, 3 Spike Jester, 2 Claim/Fame Jund Goblin deck. I was intrigued by dream scenario of T1 FSD, T2 MWM, T3 Claim the Marshal and a Surge/Kickwhacker.
My night went bad, I won only one match. I mulliganed quite a bit, and drew many a land with little to no gas. The dream scenario never happened and while I'm playing Goblins again at the upcoming legacy tournament, I'll hang modern goblins for a while. I want some new goblins and I want them soon. /end rant
I'm somehow unpleased with Goblins in the meta these days.
Many sweepers, decks that hit harder and earlier, abzan walling till dawn, storm comboing before we win, sultai/junk/jund/stuff grinding us out....

Hey... I did this build and I'm trying it with relative success and I see there is room for improvement this concept of Rakdos Goblins. Rakdos is just a late game fix in case the game gets too long, as Goblins tend to run out of gas early. I'm still not sure of using him, as I didn't needed it yet, the games I won, I won too early and when I lost, I lost too soon without having him on board.
I thought about using Death's Shadow in his place, as it would be a big surprise late game, but as just Goblin Loyalist has trample it might still be a dead weight later in game, even using just a land to summon. Other idea I have is replacing the big creature with Mob Boss or Vexing Devil.
Tuktuk has worked great actually as you can use Claim/Fame and Mogg Fanatic on him pretty easily. Spike Jester is fantastic, great value. Tried Jund Hackblade, but there is not enough creatures to activate it or space, but when he worked, he worked great.
I'm still not sure about the land quantities as I got mana starved in two games... But, well, that happens. I need to better sample size.
I've been pushing Gobots on MTGO and I have slightly changed my SB up. I am down three cards, but overall it seems like it has a common message focusing on creature to creature swap. Here are the latest additions:
There are a ton of other things I could throw in for that fifth slot, but as of right now that's the core.
TSH is self explanatory, and it makes for a creature to creature swap so there is little loss in pressure so long as you have green mana close by.
FG is replacing Magmatic Chasm or Gruul Charm in that it is a creature and re-usable and assists early game where the other two were more for late game. FG is used against aggro and tempo, but could be used in mid-range. Personally, I think FG and Intimidator Initiate and Legion Loyalist working all together could really help push some damage through in a traditional goblins list. Throw in some whackers and reach and presto a competitive deck. Cough...oh looky there a list! How did that happen?
GC...God bless the guy who recommended that on this forums, because that is such a go-to-card. GC is used against mid-range and control decks.

Hello everybody. Is a transforming sideboard (to a more burn centered version) a terrible idea for gobbos? I am building a list similar to the one @ascribe reported, but i have no actual experience with Goblins so my question probably appears stupid.
Also, can i ask you @spec.ops how is your token build doing?

After years of playing exclusively modern I have finally found a deck that is exciting to me and consistent. I have played goblins in legacy and am super excited to start grinding out this list. The sb seems a little lack luster to me. I haven’t tested it a whole lot yet. I feel there should be some number of blood moon in the sb. Only time will tell what will be the final list I end up with. ROI spoiled a new 2/2 goblin bear, giving hope that maybe we can get that next piece to finally take this deck to the tier 2 threads. I won’t have it in paper until next week but expect to see fnm reports in the future.
I agree about the sideboard. For that purpose, i have recently bought a couple of Genesis Chamber. It's just an intuition and i can (and probably will) be wrong, but 8 think that it can help in some grindy match-up.
I just wrapped up GP OKC. The competition was tough. I was not able to make it to day two, but Gobots drew a lot of attention from judges and surrounding players. Everyone was shocked with the speed and violent intensity goblins brought to the table. From seeing people whistle when they cast IoK to sweat rolling down foreheads turn two to free wins with 15 damage turn three. But, the hate was EPIC. The whole format was midrange to control. I played one real aggro deck and crushed it (merfolk). But, literally, having every...single...goblin...die turn after turn after turn just grinds out the deck.
So, after a painful lesson I've come up with a new sideboard to combat the meta; however, it will require a Gruul splash.
The first two choices are quite simple to understand. But, the bottom three will require some explanation. All of these "gas" cards can help us out pace the card advantage midrange to control decks net. The only thing is knowing which one is best and how much of one to throw in. For example, for more pure control decks with sweepers side in both Fecundity and Genesis Chamber. For decks that run light on creatures but high on removal side in Genesis Chamber and Shaper's Sanctuary. Note, Tron is a tough one as they have so many different ways to kill us its a hard one to say. But, had I had Genesis Chamber early in every post game one I can say I would have won all my matches. GC was the single most abused card in my SB.
With this hedge of protection our new SB gives us, at least me, I feel confident enough to take any goblin deck to any tournament setting.
Thanks for sharing your experience @spec.ops; i'm particularly happy to know that i did the right thing buying those Genesis Chambers
@Gitaxian_Probe i think you are too high on spells and too low on creatures. Even if you want to play a sort of creature heavy burn, you have no reason to not play Goblin Grenade
