I like this direction, Terminate is somethig I've been jealous of for a long time.
One issue is does raise is our turn one on the play becomes a lot more intruiging. Do you drop delver, play Serum or Thoughtseize. Sequencing will become a lot more important if this is the future.
I'd almost always play delver firs then follow up with serum and seize at least on the play. Pressure before all.

Usually this is the play, and almost definitely in the dark. Depends on the matchup though. In removal-heavy matchups I would probably hold Delver and cast Serum first to sculpt and ensure we hit land drops. Then we can cast TS before Delver to clear the way.
Traverse first is the best option if we have Bolt/Tar in hand and no other lands. Stomping getting Island, then we can player Delver + removal spell next turn. If we have TS/Push instead, we can get Overgrown, lead on Thoughtseize, and Traverse for Island next turn and play Delver.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
If by "straight Delver" you mean Temur, then definitely. This is a better Traverse deck than the Temur Delver build I proposed after the Probe ban, it gets to use the best creatures in Modern (incl. Death's Shadow, who we now know has earned a spot in those ranks), and it plugs crucial problems Temur always had, like lacking effective ways to deal with resolved fatties.
I understand what you gain and give up by playing the Shadow build. I was wondering if you have an idea of how everything works in practice, though.
For example, in the PM, you said that you found Tron to remain favourable (we lose Hoots and Moon) due to the addition of Thoughtseize and Fulminator. I was hoping you had a rough idea of how some of the other matchups are affected.

Do you have specific matchups in mind? Just ask and I'll tell you how they have changed for me in practice so far. Not going to make a 10-matchup list and write pros and cons though, no time 🤓
3-1 at FNM tonight, my first paper spin with the deck! Here's a mini-report---I know FNM isn't the kind of tournament I usually post reports about, but I want to give an idea of how games can play out with this deck.
Round 1 vs Death's Shadow Jund (2-1)
He kills me G1 with a Lili of the Veil and two Shadows after stripping my hand. G2 I poke at him with a Delver, Push-Snap-Push his Shadow and Goyf and close out the game with a Goyf of my own. G3 we sit around throwing doing nothing for what seems like forever. My opponent Thoughtseizes away my threats. He finally goes down to 10 and plays a pair of 3/3 Shadows, knowing I have Bolts, with a fetchland up. I play a Goyf, which gets Pushed, and take his attack, going down to 6. I throw two Bolts and Tarfire at my opponent and then Traverse into Snap (Goyf gives me delirium) on my turn for lethal burn.
-4 Delver
-2 Leak
-2 Denial
+1 Beldma
+1 Staticaster
+1 Threads
+2 Terminate
+2 Brutality
+1 Decay (couldn't find a Pulse on time)
Round 2 vs Storm (1-2)
G1 I clock with a Goyf while he sculpts his hand. Denial on PiF, and Leak for PiF the following turn. G2 he gets me with a turn two Moon I forgot existed in this deck. G3 I bring in my Moon hate but ship three no-landers and end up with 4 cards and no pressure. My opponent tries Moon and I Denial it, then uses Manamorphose to cast Leyline of Sanctity on turn 4 after I play a Delver. I have been saving Collective Brutality for Electromancer so this is a bummer, but I still get to -2/-2 a Goblin later. Delver flips off Thoughtseize (where are my Revelries!!!) and I get my opponent down to 5 life before he goes off with a second Electromancer.
Round 3 vs Abzan Midrange (2-1)
G1 I lose to 8 Lingering Souls tokens. G2 I go Delver into Goyf and soon find another Delver while my opponent casts Hierarch and some Thoughtseizes. He makes some Souls and I TBR Delver after it gets double blocked, but he Decays it in response. Next turn he taps out to make 4 more Souls and I Traverse-Snap-Battle Rage for lethal after blocks. G3 we trade resources for a while until I cast Bedlam (for 5 mana) and draw Push, Goyf, Shadow. I cast all my threats and alpha strike, and my opponent has Path for my 12/12 Shadow after trying to race with some 1/1s. But I have Push for a blocker and Kolaghan's Command for one damage over lethal with prowess.
G3:
Same, but
-2 Thoughtseize
+2 Pyroclasm (forgot to sub in Angers)
Round 4 vs UB Faeries (2-0)
G1 my Goyfs get killed but my opponent doesn't do much. I get my beats on with a 2/2 Shadow. My opponent doesn't block it with his Snapcaster so I pass with Bolt up instead of hitting myself, and he taps out to cast and equip Sword of Feast and Famine. I kill Snap in response and attack for two again. Then I take a hit from Vault with the Sword and Vault is forced to chump my huge Shadow. He doesn't draw an answer. G2 My opponent resolves a pair of Blossoms and I have Delver into Goyf. I Collective Brutality to kill a token and take away a removal spell before swinging, and then Push one of his new tokens. He ends up at 5 life with a stranded Thoughtseize, chumping my creatures until the Blossoms kill him.
- Can't remember my plan for this match unfortunately. I feel like I brought everything in but idr what came out 😕
The deck felt great but man it was exhausting to play (in a good way). Spent so much time on Chalice decks I forgot what it's like to play Delver! My brain was buzzing from all the decisions, especially in the Shadow mirror---we have so much info with all the discard spells we both cast, and so many lines available to each of us. The mirror is fascinating and I think firmly in our favor post-board. I have also really liked our Abzan matchup online and tonight only drove that home. I feel like had I remembered Moon against Storm I wouldn't have lost my G2, as I had two Traverses in hand when he locked me out. Oops!
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
We already have a pulse and some specific hates such as terminates and revelries which are better than decays in what they do. Plus if we want BG turn 2 we are forced to fetch pool-crypt. The only other way to get it is to fetch for stomping and Traverse for swamp. It's not the best if we also want to play delver. It's better turn 3 with pulse since with 3 lands we always have all colors (one at least in multiple). I think it is not needed.

In your testing what was the conclusion on Abrupt Decay? Seems like an effect we want in the 75 somewhere
I found that the ground covered by Bolts, Push, Terminate, Revelry, Grudge, and KC hit everything I wanted to with Decay, and Decay was really hard to cast on two mana a lot of the time and less efficient than other options. I went with a Pulse in the board instead because it also hits nasty stuff like Eldrazi or Worship, and can generate blowouts like wiping a field full of tokens. I like having answers for everything in the deck so I never have to just scoop to stuff. Pulse is a universal answer.

Wrote my post before reading this but yea agree with everything here.
How have you found the Affinity, Bant Eldrazi, Eldrazi Tron, and Burn matchups? Those are the popular ones that I could see going either way.
Affinity: Better. We have more Goyfs and Mandrills can sometimes get outclassed in this MU. We also have the 6 Bolts and get to play 2 Push as well, and then post-board we have Staticaster and a ton of incidental Affinity hate thanks to our Moon and Chalice plans. This MU is practically a bye.
Bant Eldrazi: Better. Moon is great against this deck but it's not super-reliable. They have outs to it, like Talisman or Scion tokens, and we can not draw it a lot of the time. The best thing about MG against Eldrazi is that Goyf gets to 5/6 sometimes and then walls their threats. Our Goyfs hit that stage more often (even getting to 6/7) and we play Death's Shadow to effectively double our Goyf count. Plus we have Push main and Terminate/Pulse side to easily kill TKS and Smasher, something RUG wasn't capable of doing. They just had Leaks which weren't reliable either thanks to Cavern. Staticaster also a lot more surgical of an out to token boards than Pyroclasm, which we can't search up.
Eldrazi Tron: Better. Seriously, our matchups pretty much get better across the board with the inclusion of black. We lose a Leak and a Denial, which we like here, but again, can answer resolved fatties with ease and gain 4 Thoughtseize, which is crazy against Tron decks when combined with pressure. We have to just suicide our life total to enable Shadow here but three lands and a Seize gives us a very respectable clock. Plus we have Delver and Goyf anyway. Again, these are improvements over Moon IMO.
Burn: Even. This matchup is about sticking a Goyf. DS is less conditional than Mandrills, especially in the Lava Spike matchup. The MU is good enough that I leave my Seizes in a lot of the time to take Charms or Eidolons with. I don't know if temur Shadow has a better MU than Monkey though, it just feels really hard to lose this MU either way.

On a less Black note, I was hoping to get some opinions on a line of play with Temur.
In game 2 against RW Prison, I was on the draw with the option to fetch and Serum Visions, or hold up Stubborn Denial and Thought Scour. I decided to go with Visions to load up on threats (I already had a Goyf though), and ended up getting hit by a turn two Nahiri. Eventually, that Nahiri cost me the game (of course, it was assisted by a Chalice and Wrath).
I would almost certainly prefer to Serum Visions rather than Thought Scour here, but is it likely enough the they have Nahiri or Blood Moon and exactly enough SSG to cast it? If they have more than they need, we waste Denial. What does everyone here do in that spot?

On the draw I'd hold up Scour/Denial. They don't even need a Guid to cast Chalice which hoses this hand, and yeah there's the chance they rush out a Moon or even cast Nahiri apparently. On the play I would Serum fist; expecting them to have Chalice + Guide or Moon + 2 Guides is a lot.

This 4 color Death's Shadow variant has everything I enjoy to do in Magic. Will definitely sleeve it up the next time I get to play Modern.
A bit afraid of the greediness of it especially after some time being on the good side of the Blood Moon though
Had a look at your SB plan. Can you explain your reasoning behind siding out Delver in some matchups?

@ashtonkutcher I've been reading over your counter cat primer and this one very thoroughly and playtested both. first of all thank you, these are both awesome primers. Secondly after playtestsing monkey grow has been more consistent for me (at least thus far) except in my list i use 4 remands for tempo. Can I see the most current list youre running?
Monkey grow does not need remands. You need to get rid of the menace you counter forever. If you don't like mana leak just try deprive. I (and others) think that it's pretty good now in a temur list. I think that last Ashton's list is the death's shadow temur delver list that linked some posts above.

A+
After some more testing I want to shore up the Burn matchup a bit. MG definitely has it better than us. The mainboard Thoughtseizes are a lot more annoying than Probe was. If we draw a Brutality it's game over so if Burn holds its (inexplicably large) meta share, a third Brutality in the side should do the trick.
Also considering a third delirium enabler for linear combo. Bauble #3 brings us to just 25 i/s which is my hard limit for this kind of deck, so we should probably start there. Third Tarfire's also an option. Cutting the KCommand for this card (was considering running a Snare here; it's also good vs. midrange and KC is really clunky vs Aggro. Also, blowing up an artifact pre-board has been relevant 0 times although nice in theory).

Yea, Remand is a no-no here. Deprive is what you are looking for if you need a two cost hard counter that does not get worse as the game progresses (it technically gets better).
Yeah I have tried both deprive and remand and i'll hard pass on deprive. UU is too mana intensive (in my experience) remand replaces itself which is amazing in tempo (especially since we lost probe as a cantrip). I'm playing straight temur, not 4 color. But i'll repectfully disagree on the remand part, its been amazing for me so far.
Was mostly surprised by both Death's Shadow versions (Jund and Grixis) and Bant Eldrazi where you remove all 4. Intuitively, would have though that having more threats is always a good idea, especially when you also board in Reveler. I guess, for Eldrazi, you're worried about Displacer?
Was curious at the Izzet Staticaster against Merfolk too. That's just for Master of Waves correct?
Just missing the 4 Death's Shadow right now, cannot wait to have a crack at it

Vs Bant, they can trade Skyspawner for it and unflip it with Displacer. Vs Death's Shadow, Delver turns on their Tarfires/Last Hopes. In both matchups we have plenty to bring in anyway so Delver's an easy cut. Cutting Delver also makes Reveler better.
Staticaster is for Curse and Silvergill too. We just want to kill all their things. Lords aren't that impressive without underlings.

I play straight Temur, and I swear by Deprive. Remand would be horrible. I win games easily off the back of Deprive. UU is not that mana intensive unless you are a very conservative with your fetching.

I can see Deprive being divisive but Remand is definitely garbage here. Play literally anything else---Snare, Leak, Deprive, another Denial... I would play 1x Rune Snag before 1x Remand.
