I've been brewing my own builds of sultai as well. In my case, I'm trying to build around mystical teachings--the theory being that teachings in and of itself is enough CA when coupled with cantrips that do things (explore, shadow of doubt, squelch, remand) I can still grind out land drops with a 25 land mana base and generate enough value off of teachings for cryptics, abrupt decays, hero's downfall, sultai charm, etc to win with a planeswalker or something flipped in off of alchemist's refuge. Probably I'll try swagtusk as a 2-of--I'd been running obstinate baloth for that. The problem I have with BUG thus far has been simply that burn is neigh on unwinnable. feed the clan is sweet if you draw it and resolve it without a skullcrack being involved, but I've played burn enough against abzan to know that meeting those requirements is hard. IMO, that's the biggest weakness of bug--it doesn't have quite the same clock as abzan, and it doesn't have any trumps for burn that can reliably turn that match around. Feed the clan is busted against burn when you get to resolve it, and a wasted slot otherwise.

Yes, I am a local area mod. WELP. GOOD LIFE CHANGES ALL HAPPEN AT ONCE AND SOME ARE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE
Primary Decks:
Modern: Esper Draw-Go
Legacy: RUG Lands
EDH: Sidisi turn-3 storm
We will have to see if this deck is a real thing or if it just got lucky. But seeing it go from "nonviable brew" to "winner of a 15 round event", we can be pretty safe in saying that it has what it takes to be Tier 2. If it can't maintain that success, it will likely be demoted in the future. Here's hoping that Sultai Control can show everyone that BUG and Control have a home in the format!
Gerald said in an interview he would cut a land...so thats 1 spot for something...
and he say that ashiok/jace overperformed, so maybe x1 another PW?
to all the people how dont understand ashiok:
the card is great, the odd part is that is a PW that is mainly a threat, a cheap fast one. Its force the opponent to do something right away, because ashiok becomes exponentially better with each turn.
TO the person who say that ashiok is a bad top deck, what? depends on board state, but in a stall board state (lets say x4 tarmo in each side of the table) is awesome and the best top deck i believe (maybe cryptic command is better).
yeah, ashiok dont do much when you have nothing and something big is beating you, yeah you want damnation at that point (or maelstrom pulse, snap, cryptic, etc), but in this deck you have a LOT of other elements to deal with opponent cards.
Yea, Ashiok isn't a good topdeck, and doesn't impact the board immediately. Jace is sweet though.
Scratch that. Sultai Control is staying in Developing Competitive.
This deck's performance highlighted a flaw in our classification system; it was seriously overweighting a single major event finish, even when decks had no other finishes to speak of in any other form. This goes against the spirit of that system and creates other issues down the road. Because of that, the system has been adjusted to help ensure that this doesn't happen in the future, and this thread is back to developing competitive where it almost definitely belongs.
This deck has an awfully hard time killing creatures that cost more than 4 and manlands, as opposed to Junk, which has Path, Dismember, Liliana, and Slaughter Pact. Might try a 1 of Dismember or something to help that out.
I've been brewing a bug teachings shell that I took for some test games to my modern weekly. I sadly had a lot of time to play with it because the theme of my night otherwise was keeping 3/4 land hands and never seeing land 4/5 with esper, and trying to deal with repeat blood moons within sideboard games.
Mainboard performed *ok* in just jamming some games. I will probably play a pair of thragtusks mainboard if I continue brewing this, as the card is sweet. Basically, the stupid number of cantrips meant it was easy to hit land drops and things went relatively smoothly. Instant speed planeswalkers were good against decks that didn't play countermagic, those that did it was rather difficult to close out games. A delver player "got there" by bolting me a total of six times, and the lack of lifegain was killer.

And it went 3-1 in a mtgo daily yesterday. Changes to the board for the online metagame were -1 disfigure, -1 sower, +2 feed the clan. I can imagine red crying against feed the clan and snapcaster.
I have been testing it as well. Seems solid. In previous versions of this (pre Gerard's list) I had trouble keeping up with fast decks. Damnation does a lot for the deck. Still unsure about Ashiok, it seems good against BG decks though.
This list got top4 in the latest SCG Premier IQ. Pretty much Fabiano's list with the most notable inclusion to be Blue Sun's Zenith. Unfortunately Tarmo's are still way too expensive for me to try out this deck It seems to be staying around however and this is great!

Nice.
I heard that it made 3rd place but didn't look at the deck list but I really like it now that I saw it.

This isn't the place to discuss this. If you want to start a new thread in Deck Creation for straight BG Rock/Control, that's fine. But this is a thread for Sultai/BUG Control only.

BGW Endless Renewal ( The primer right here! )
Legacy = UB Stiflenought

I'd cut a Mandrils for a Tasigur and replace the Maelstrom Pulse or Compulsive Research with another Sultai Charm.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
