I guess it depends on what you expect to go up against most of the time.
There's so much Junk and other random BGx decks I run into that I'm more inclined to reload my hand after they've thoughtseized and Lilly'd it into oblivion. On the otherhand, I very, very rarely run into any kind of control deck.
Fair enough. Around my area there's a bunch of Twin and Scapeshift, which is why I'm a bit iffy on BSZ. I'm still going to try it out though, see if I like it. I haven't played with it yet, so that may be why.
I definitely agree that the new Command is awesome and I love Blood Moon main deck. I'm nit sure if I'll go as far as to play Shackles in my build, but I certainly don't fault those who do.
Let me know how 3 Moons main goes for you. I might bump my count up if it goes well.
Conclusions from my playing: Kolaghan's Command is unreal and, imo, should have a full 4 spots across the 75. Olivia is amazing vs decks with Lingering Souls and mediocre against others (where she's usually sided out). Blood Moon is amazing, as usual. Anticipate is worth its weight over Serum Visions. It allows you to play your lands a bit more slowly (less damage) for a bigger payoff. I definitely like 4 in the list.
For the sideboard, I'm likely to go -1 Ashiok +1 Jace, 'cause Jace is also amazing vs Lingering Souls decks (and BGx in general. If you play right, they have almost 0 ways to get rid of him).
After some late night testing, I agree with you that the Shackles are wrong for this build. We have access to a lot of removal, we don't need them. So, I made some changes:
I think any deck running Vedalken Shackles sort of needs to build around having it and have ways to protect it if things go wrong. I don't really think its a card you just throw into any deck that happens to be running blue. Shackles requires a lot of deckbuilding concessions to work.
Have you guys seen the grixis list by Lois Alfonso from the Starcity 5k in Providence? Thats the build you're looking for.
I've played against it a number of times, its the real in the hands of a pilot who knows what he's doing.
Coming back to this, I've been trying out his list as well, and it's a blast. It's a little less control than I'd like (not on the level of Grixis Moon), but it's still pretty close and the power level is real. It reminds me of the Legacy Grixis Control lists more than anything else. I might try his version for my next tournament and see how it goes. Right now it's a toss up between that and the 3 Moon list that I've been playing with.
The thing I'm a fan of it is that it falls on a funny point in the proactive-reactive scale of control decks. Its actually quite a bit like esper mentor, but also can just snap/bolt you out of the game which is always great.
It plays well. However, apparently some lists with Blood Moon main are doing well (a list with Blood Moons main apparently won the SCG States in Maryland). It's definitely down to those two lists for Wednesday (and knowing me, I probably won't decide until 20 minutes before).
Edit: Apparently my edit earlier never went through. This is the Moon list I've been playing with.
My conclusions: Kolaghan's Command is unreal and 4 across the 75 feels very strong. I'm likely to go -1 Ashiok +1 Jace, as Jace has been very powerful against Abzan (he blanks Lingering Souls, gives card advantage and if you're playing correctly they have almost 0 ways to actually get rid of him). Olivia has been awesome against Abzan and alright against other stuff. I still like her in the main though, as she's such a boon against certain decks (especially Tron. If they can't get out Karn, she can steal any of their creatures at instant speed).
Hey there buddies. Cool deck idea, am subscribing!
I think it would be relevant to this primer if the mentionned SCG States Maryland winning & Louis Alfonso's list were included for further reference, and as first real results.
Also, I'd be interested in hearing about your experience with Kolaghan's command. How is it so sick? Can you give examples of value plays that come often? Cheers, keept it up

MODERN Blue Lantern, UBx Tezzerator. OLD SCHOOL 93/94 «The Pain Train» Black Sligh, Esper «Machine Gun» Artifacts, Jund «Psycho» Ponza-Disko.
Thanks for stopping by! I was actually looking for the Maryland list and was unable to find it before last night. I'll update the primer soon with links to different decks that have done well (there's a couple more SCG lists than just those two).
With Kolaghan's Command, I've often killed things with it while making them discard, which isn't terrible for 1RB. It's also saved my life against Affinity and Tron, being able to hit things like Maps, Wurmcoil and anything in Affinity. You can often kill a dude while shattering another one while playing up against the latter, and I've been able to do things like destroying a Cranial Playing and shocking an Inkmoth.
Against Blue/Black decks, it gives you a way to recur your threats and value. I've been able to shock an opponent's Snapcaster while bringing my own back to my hand (which is better than the field, imo).
It's just so flexible that you almost always have something to do with it.
So the OP has been updated with notable finishes. There's been a bunch of Modern Daily lists on TCGPlayer, but I'm way too lazy to copy all of those over.
I really like the concept of Grixis Control minus the unplayable junk. I believe that this version of Grixis Control has a bright future because of the Grixis Delver decks that have been showing up on the scene.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.
Cruel ultimatum is really cool, but I have a hard time resolving gifts ungiven consistently in a control deck, I have no idea how cruel managed to be a thing-ish for so long.
Young pyro is nuts, tasigur gives the deck some robustness missing before, and the lands are now on par with all the other wedges and shards, no reason for grixis to not be a consistly powerful archetype in some fashion from here on out barring being distracted by too many fun cards. Unless burn gets too popular again.

I'm convinced now that maindecking Blood Moon is the right call for this deck. It should be Grixis Moon.
And Kolaghan's Command is amazing.
