1-2 at a tiny 7 man LGS tournament tonight. Sum of all fears edition.
1-2 vs grixis death shadow.
G1: t3 combo, no kcommand gg.
G2: three discard spells in first 2 turns and surgical extraction thopter foundry, t3 gurmag angler. My hand is 2x decay. gg.
G3: vandalblast snap vandalblast breaks combo twice. I get a timely bridge to buy time and beat down with 1 thopter. On lethal turn he rips kcommand to blow bridge and kill me.
2-1 vs UW control (finks/angel/wall type)
G1: I lay early sieve and sword. I brutality and whiff but see his hand has dsphere. I damnation ojutai, then bridge to bait sphere, then he taps out for finks I whir for foundry and go inifnite.
G2: I have great opener with serum into combo. He has t2 stony on the play. I do not draw abrupt decay or tezzeret. He disenchants my bridge.
G3: He has t3 stony on the draw. I have t4 tezzeret and swing 5, then 10 muddle his path, he double-walls, then verdicts, but hes at 4 life so I just animate a bauble and kill.
1-2 vs UR moon/breach
G1: I have opener of cage-thopter-sword-opal (2 darkslick no fetch). He remands sword then blood moons. I draw a 2nd opal to play foundry. Resolves but next turn he bounces it with cryptic. I draw island eventually and re-cast, he spell snares. I draw another foundry he can't answer and win with thopters.
G2: long staredown as I feel I should keep BG up to decay his moon. He ceremonious rejections my relic. I see he has 3 nonbasics and 1 fetch and figure he probably boarded moons out or won't cast. I use all my black for a liliana. He remands and blood moons. Then grudges my bridge.
G3: I draw 2 fetches opal, so ofc he never draws a moon. He remands 3 brutalities (discard mode only) and lays a keranos, then snare/grudges my foundries until dead.
This pretty much sums up all my fears with this deck. Easy wins game one, difficult to impossible wins g2/g3.
I put the duskmantle combo in vs UW only since other decks had too much removal. never drew it, but think he left paths in anyways. Boarded in heralds in other 2 matchups and it was horrendous. My artifacts would get blown up by the red removal spells and I could never cast him. Tezz did major work vs stony in the UW match but only got thoughtseized vs grixis and never drawn vs UR.
Finished a very very strong 4-0 tonight. The quicksilver fountain was a star in every game it showed up and the spreading seas were BANANAS. Decklist below.
Rd 1 BR madness
Game one I get a turn 2 quicksilver fountain off gemstone and turn 3 thopter/sword turn 4 make thopters, untap whir for time sieve and go infinite.
Game two I spreading seas'd him 3 times turn 1 2 and 3 (off gemstone) and then beath him down with tez
Rd 2 abzan infinity
Game one he shocks plays heirarch. Off gemstone i collected brutality him, kill his arch take his company and he has no more land and all three drops. Next turn I spreading seas his land and the game is over 10 seconds later with thopter sword tez ult.
G2 he starts with double white leyline I kill his druid with collective twice and a grafdiggers out from turn 1. I get aethergrid out and then thopter sword and proceed to mow down his eternal witness and knight of reliquary. He realizes a creature will never stick and scoops. Shows me a hand of two companies three chord of calling. Cage man.
Rd 3 blue moon
i punk him fetching with a tarn game one with shadow of doubt and leave him off red. Beat him fast and he shows me a hand full of red.
G2 I get a turn 2 tez and pummel him before he can get to 4 mana. It was a shellacking.
Rd 4 esper gifts
G1 we grind back and forth he's got souls I'be got thopter sword I have him almost down, he sighs audibly releied when he draws his seventh land, a fetch, I punk him with shadow of doubt to keep him off elesh norn and get him next turn.
G2 I keep a really shifty hand, he strips a pentad prism that on turn two was gonna allow me to do one of three broken things. He snaps inquisition and steals my aethergrid. Lands a stony and just chips away with souls tokens. He countersqualls my whir to get my hand empty under a bridge for exactsies. Ow.
G3 I shadow of doubt his gifts, get a quicksilver fountain and he starts tilting trying to tech me out of triggers saying things like "draw?" and when Insaid trigger he'd say he'd already drawn. I got super serious and decided to obliterate him. So the fountain kept him from doing much and I just kept smashing stony silences. We got to time and I whirred for sword and he scooped.
In conclusion I feel like the spreading seas/fun of shadow of doubt are INCREDIBLY potent. Serve the same purpose as serum visions but have the possibility of really dreailing the opponent. The quicksilver fountain is super boss too. Very very good against controlly decks and you can just sac it before all the flood counters fall off for a permanent blood moon effect.
I think this may have cracked the case wide open, boys.

You use Liquimetal Coating. Target Saheeli, then -2 her targeting herself. Repeat ad nauseam for infinite ETBs for Altar.
Thanks Crex. Not sure a new 3 card combo that dies to Stony is what this deck needs. Any way to justify jamming the through the breach emrakul package? Or polymorph/Emrakul? At least those attack on a completely different axis. I recall folks suggesting Polymorph before, anyone actually try it?
I want to try the seas/shadow/fountain thing but now in addition to the tron and valakut problem ive been reminded of the breadth of the post-board hate card problem. Ive had people board like 12 cards vs me and its rarely less than 6.
From last night it was
Surgical, rejection, vandalblast, (md kcommand)
Stony rip celestial purge rejection disenchant (md dsphere and cryptic)
Grudge rejection (md cryptic and spell snare)
All 3 decks had snapcasters too for extra virtual copies. That is a mountain of hate to fight through, and there really isnt a lot we can do about red removal - youd think rejection is meh because it only hits sword, then they punk your relic, opal, hardcast bridge etc. And its never just rejection - its backed up by something else that breaks combo.
Fighting rip stony is one thing (decaypulse ftw) but fighting the instant speed artifact hate is quite another. And every deck I played had maindecked outs to the combo and the bridge; not many and not great ones, but outs.
Im not sure spreading seas vs 3 blue decks would tip the balance

That's a great showing, nice job. I wouldn't go bananas on seas just yet, as several of those matches sounded like good matchups anyways / magic christmasland scenario for seas. You describe playing 3 seas in a row, which isn't going to happen often, and another time when your opponent was already manascrewed. Also, your shadow of doubt punking is fun, and I do think it makes a good fun-of. Seas seems really good against tron and in those scenarios where you can hurt manascrew, like you had. I'm still not convinced seas dooes much against scapeshift. They now have 3 different cards that can get multiples of valakut, and the card scapeshift can just sac the islands you made and combo off. And you're never going to keep scapeshift off of double green, as 90% of their deck is land and ramp. And with Fountain, a smart player will target a fetch-land and respond to the trigger by cracking it for G. I'd like to know how seas feels against stuff like hatebears and burn, when it just becomes a liability.
@Schryder - Stony silence does turn off the Saheeli combo post-board, but then, either Saheeli or Altar can win behind a bridge. Polymorph combo seems lackluster, and requires more set-up and is more fragile and slower as a combo, in addition to being incompatible with bridge. Also, how are you getting tokens to polymorph with a stony silence out? That combo has the same problem there. Through the Breach would require, what, 8 non-artifact cards, and have no synergy with the rest of the deck? Half of the reason to run Saheeli combo is because pieces can be fetched by whir, and low cmc artifacts are what we want to be doing anyway, and it all plays nicely with bridge.
@the_nobodys I reported the main thrust of the games. Spreading seas were sprinkled in nearly every game giving opponents something to stumble on and buying me precious time to set up. Nothing stops valakut but if you can make them stumble for a while it gives you time to do your thing to win. And keeping them off 5 mountains is as good as keeping them off valakut. In the burn matchup seas is very whatever. In the couple of games I played I've had a thopter/whir angle to play instead or a collective to pitch it to. No H8bears yet.
@badmcfadden I was overwhelmed by the amount of post board hate at first, but I realize no matter how much hate they have we inevitably have more action so if you just think of it as working through the force field til you can start connecting just know inevitability is on your side. If the deck didn't have hurdles it would get banned. I can more often than not win an interactive game of magic, that is something I take for granted. The land decks left me not interacting and hopeless, so I'm trying to shore that up without drastically altering the chemistry of the deck.
@murkemurke Whoops, I posted the list earlier from my laptop but logged in hsing twitch so it posted as OFWGKTA (wolf haley) will fix now.
Y'all, cut it out with these narrow cards. The answer to opponents holding up countermagic and shatters is LotV in the main and Ashiok in the side. Planeswalkers just trash opponents on the control plan. With Lili also having great synergy in the deck.
R1 Destroyed Titanshift 2-0 in 19 minutes. Really, this match-up. G1 had disruption into infinite turns on T5, on the play. G2 disruption into Lili into Witchbane Orb with Jar backup into Tezz and Lili ult ftw.
R2 Tied against an a GW Eldrazi-Eldritch Evolution really potent pile. G1 Sieved him dead, G2 he finished me with a Eldrazi displacer + white Gearhulk loop wtf. G3 I was locking him down but his Rest in Peace shut off our combo while i whiffed on topdecks for way too many turns. I had stabilized but couldn't win in time. Damnation was sitting on top of my deck, bugger. Then crushed Living End 2-0, just, poor guy.
Build is still same old with MB Sieve and Ruins, but included a pair of Lilis in the side. Hard on mana I found, but they they put lot of pressure on the Valakut opponent.

I talked about the deck and piqued the interest of the WI Pro Tour guys, so they asked me to bring it into the secret deck dojo with them. Don't know if I'll be able to tell you about all the changes, but I'm definitely excited to get it into the hands of the best of the best. If I could help Tez win a PT I could die happy.
Hi all, I've been playing the turbo build for a while now and I've gotta say, the deck is very powerful. Unfortunately, I can't seem to be able to beat abzan counters company. Even mb Grafdiggers cage doesnt stick because of rec sage and the likes (a card that they can easily coco or chord for). Is the answer just a lot of spot removal in the sb??
Edit: i forgot to mention and request some help testing leave no trace in the sideboard.
@jakoruz My only goal is to shut down the devoted (and kataki post board) as often as you can. Pithing needle number one is devoted, nunber two is pridemage. I'm bringing in 3 abrupt decays, 2 pyroclasm, 3 ghirapur aether grid (our best card) and a shadow of doubt. Only using them to pick off combo pieces, tempo stuff like voice/knight are fine. Like many tough matchups containment isn't an option. You have to get a lock piece down and scramble to close the game ASAP. For example if you had a thopter sword online it might be tempting to just go wide with thopters, but I would play a tez, tick him up so that the next turn we could make a bunch of thopters and ultimate. Stuff like that, maybe taking sub optimal feeling lines to try to close the game out.
Leave no Trace is VERRRYY interesting. Will def test one.
