Well you raise a good point there and I agree, that if your deck uses energy, then GoG is the way to go, otherwise fortune's favor might be a better option. Well different deck builds leads to different choices. I'm gonna stick with GOG for a bit longer since I'll be testing out deadlock trap this FNM.
Also your observation with flaying tendrils is correct, it effectively deals with r/w vehicles and r/b aggro
I was told my list lacks focus and to come here so that's what I'm doing lol. My main focus is to just keep thwarting my opponents efforts. If they try casting something, I can stop them, and if they manage to put down a threat, I can respond to it in some way and just drag the game on until I can win with one of my planeswalkers or my sphinx.
3 Sphinx is way too many. Play 1 if you want to play it and side (maybe) a 2nd if your meta is control heavy. I'd look into Lili (I know she's expensive) - maybe 1-2 more Dovin?, Kalitas, Blessed Alliance and Immolating Glare. I'll put my list below.
@all
Here's what I'm currently running. I took a lot of stuff from Shaheen's two lists. I'm trying for an Esper Draw/Go.
Any tips for boarding, something I struggle with quite a bit

Lost legacy is legit, it even gets better if you have an idea of what your opponent is playing. In my last fnm I was able to use it against a b/w walker control deck, naming gideon then naming bruna for the 2nd copy. He was able to draw just 1 card since only bruna was in his hand while the gideons were still in the deck.
Just came home from play testing deadlock trap in a UB control and it really did great, stopping ishkana from using her abilty to deal damage and tapping emrakul, the promised end before the mind slaved turn. The scenario was i had deadlock trap and jace, unraveller of secrets out with two gearhulks the blue and black one (which killed ishkana) with me only at 6 health and my opponent playing temurge at 12 hp, he casts emrakul and I tap it before end of turn, during the mind slaved turn he proceeds to kill my gearhulks, bounce his emrakul back to his hand and casts my glimmer of genius drawing me into two lands. The next turn i still have 3 energy and a 3 loyalty jace. i draw a gonti and play it exiling his nissa, vital force, I tick up jace and draw grasp of darkness, then pass the turn.
He then casts emrakul again trigerring a kozilek's return. Again I tap emrakul with deadlock trap end of turn and he passes the turn. On the 2nd mindslaved turn i draw into another land, and at this point he doesn't have much to do since my hand was just mainly lands and a grasp of darkness, he ticks down jace, bouncing emrakul back to his hand and passes the turn once more. On my turn I draw into a land, tick up jace to find an ob nixilis, cast it and tick it up to find a summary dismissal and pass the turn. He casts emrakul again and i counter it with summary, then on my next turn I manage to draw into liliana with jace and ob nix, cast liliana and his exiled nissa, bring back torrential gearhulk and turn a land into a 5/5 creature, at which point he already concedes the match.
What are are everyone's thoughts on Select for Inspection? I don't see much talk about it, but a one mana bounce spell that also scries could be effective against aggro and vehicle matches

I"m not too sure about that. It is only a temporary answer, and while bounce spells have been part of control decks in the past (e.g. Ætherspouts), they typically tend to do more than put it in hand. Unsubstantiate in current standard is better, as it functions both as a temporary counterspell, but also allows you to bounce one of your own creatures if needed (say, a Gearhulk), but I'm still not desperate to run either. I'd much rather run instant speed total removal, like the typical 3 black ones.
If I can only get 2 of each of the mythic dual lands(college budget OP), is it better to run 2 of the uncommon ones or just run basic lands since the uncommon ones come in tapped?
I'd actually consider a couple of Evolving Wilds in your land base, especially as you are talking about the possibility of having lands come in tapped. This way you can dig for the colour you need, shuffle your library if you've had to drop a win-con to the bottom, etc. Also, maybe Aether Hub would be a good budget inclusion (probably should be there anyway) as it also gives you all three colours you need. It's fuelled by Glimmer of Genius as well, so not always just a one-time thing. Have you considered Shambling Vent as well? It's going to be a better card than Forsaken Sanctuary...
Towards everyone else, given that we are talking "what about" cards - what about a single Diabolic Tutor. WB was running Dark Petition pre-rotation... Yes, that gave mana, but DT as a one of increases the chances of pulling what we need - e.g., T4 Tutor to find T5 Fumigate? Nothing going on, so Tutor to find a Gearhulk and speed up the clock?

Getting the mana back is a very big deal. It easily let you cast another spell on the same turn. Diabolic Tutor can only do that very late game.
Alright I spruced the list up a bit. I can cop a few of the dual lands, and my friend pulled a Liliana and I'm buying it off her for 20 because the local shop only gives 19.20 for it, so I'll buy it lol. Fiddled with the lands, number of other stuff (Dovin, Sphinx, etc) and added some other stuff. Any other suggestions?
@Conday It's more a mb or nothing card. I'd look at cutting 1 Sphinx (to board if control heavy meta) and move the Essense to the board and possibly play it that way. I'm curious how the deck runs. If you can, I'd defs get Kalitas in the board somewhere (I know it's pricey).
@all Went 4-0 with my list posted above (post #82) tonight. It ran super well, much better than expected. If anyone else wants to give the list a whirl and give some feedback, that would be amazing.
2-0ed Hulk Reanimater (he drew poorly).
2-0ed Mardu Control (mate playing it. I slow played removing his shambling vent without meaning, not paying proper attention to his mana and he tilted and scooped 2 turns later and instascooped G2).
2-0ed RB aggro (really surprised here that it was a 2-0).
2-0ed Grixis Reanimater/Emerge in the final. (we both drew badly G1 - I was stuck on 3 lands and he flooded. I had the Lili + removal to his 1 dude and G2 was really close with a clutch Descend topdeck sealing it).
Went 2-2 last night with a slight variation on the Soorani UB list on the first post. Should have gone at least 3-1, but a misplay in round 2 killed me off (attacked with a pair of Gearhulks for 10, didn't realise he had a Fumarole out which killed me on the crack back). Other loss was to a Grixis zombie/Gearhulk deck. Really struggled with answering the big stuff (Hulks and Walkers) in that deck, but was able to hold my own against his smaller stuff. Took down a UW control deck 1-0 and a Marvel deck 2-0. I wasn't overly impressed with the Walkers - taking a turn out to play them hurt a little, but the flexibility from them is probably more important.
Fun to play, a little frustrating, so the normal control games!
Hi! Great result. Quick question. How is the mana base working for you ? Is the number of CIPT lands hurting too much? I played an exact copy of that mana base but found myself playing T1 - tap land, T2- tap land way too often for my liking. While not an issue in the 'slower' matchups... it is certainly a killer vs the fast BR or RW aggro. I was sometimes getting the 'fast side' of the mana base vs aggro and it was great..but the other half of the time I was getting the slow part and it hurt a lot. Such slow start is actually quite likely because there are 14 out of the 26 lands that come in tapped in T1 and T2. Anyway, I changed the mana base a bit, gave up the man lands and put in the fast BW lands in stead. It has been working wonders so far... Sometimes I miss the man lands but now I can make the critical T2 play (vs aggro) 90% of the time.
How are the PW's working for you ? My wincons so far are 4 Gearhulks, 2 Lili, and one Metallurgic Summonings. I fear it is a bit low on wincons, but I am running the flaying tendrils MD and so I am a little scarce on space. As far as I can see the meta online is mostly RW, RB aggro and Marvel decks so I built with that in mind.
@Airgaps
I have not had an issue with the mana so far. that said, I have played about 15 matches with this configuration. I find I'm generally T1 tapped T2 untapped, but have had T1 > T3 tap (was vs Grixis emerge on a slow start thankfully). The only reason I 2-0ed the RB aggro was due to the man lands. I reckon I gained ~16 life between them and Alliance. My meta is kinda weird. There's currently a lot of midrange and control locally with a few GB delirium (aggro), RB aggro and RG energy.
The PWs are working out really well. Would love to play a 2nd Dovin, but can' find the room tbh. That seems like a fine number of wincons. Jace and Dovin have put in heaps of work for me with Sorin and Ob Bix not far behind. Lili is the best of the lot though, so far.
Have you put a list up recently? I had a quick flick though, but couldn't find it. Have wanted to find room for Summonings, but I'm really happy with my win-cons atm.
@Conday
I really do suggest Lili. She's currently my fav. Good luck with it all.
Thanks for the reply man. I updated my list after some testing and added the manlands (it is great to have them back in the lsit).. I played around a bit with the mana base to be able to consistently make a t2 play. I think it is now more robust. I tested a bit over 10 games last night in MTGO and only once I had issues with the t2 play... it is a matter of getting used to land sequencing I guess. I also reshuffled around some cards... decided to move the flaying tendrils in the SB. Here is my updated list. Out of the 10 games last night on 2-man queues I dropped only one match as far as I remember...so I am happy with it. I have a pptq on Sunday and I think this will be the final list. Any comments are of course welcome. Cheers
EDIT: UPDATED SB. Considering moving the 4th Blessed Alliance to Md. online there are TONS of RG energy.
The deck feels now more powerful/versatile and I think it has the right balance between control and wincons, etc. The flexibility of PWs is great (Lili is the star fo them) and Gearhulk is just..wow.. From the sideboard the metallurgic summonings are also great vs grindy matchups and the control mirror.
This looks quite soild and I like it. Should possibly find room to test Summonings in my 75 somewhere. Have you tried Dovin at all? Good luck in your pptq!
I went 3-1 in FNM with a list similar to the one I posted earlier. I lost to another Esper control in the last round.
I made some changes my list for the PPTQ..adding 4 x Thing in the Ice. I was gladly surprised by it. I went 3-1-1 in swiss. Loosing to RG energy. He ended up wining the tournament I believe, after playing in the final with the guy who I lost to in the quarters.
I played vs RG energy (L), Jeskai ctrol (W), BW control (D), Esper Ctrl (W), Metallurgic summonings.dec, GB delirium (L)
All in all the deck feels poweeful. The Gearhulk is just too good. I made some changes to the list after the games and will post it tomorrow.
