So it swings for 5, 2, 5, 2, 5?
Seems okay. I think I'd like it better if it cost 1R and didn't get an energy for ETB. Double red is too harsh to fit most cubes these days, and the damage is the same over time just slightly less brutal right off the bat.

I just want them to deal damage, period blank, and that's probably the biggest issue with this design in terms of cube viability. A 2/1 dies to so much, and relying on hitting your opponent to make this any more than a piker is asking a lot prob too often.
Aetherborn Snowballer 1R
Creature - Aetherborn Berserker
Whenever Aetherborn Snowballer deals combat damage to a player, add that much E to your mana pool.
Whenever Aetherborn Snowballer attacks, you may spend any amount of E. If you do, it gets +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is the amount of E spent this way.

Probably? Probably not? Seems like a way to turn all your creatures into mana so effortlessly might be OP, but I have the feeling this isn't the first card with this type of effect i.e. a free sac outlet that makes mana.

I'm gonna say this is probably not printable. It's Phyrexian Altar but cheaper and on a body, and you can also bank the mana or abuse it as artifacts.

Give it haste, drop it down 1 point of damage, but let it hit creatures, and make it 1R?

This seems absurd. Comes down right away and if they have no blockers, hits for 2 and immediately shocks something?

Yeah. That's the point. Did you see the previous card? You guys can't have it both ways. lol Either it sucks or it's good.
But it's not any more under costed than most red spells that can deal 4 damage. You still have to get through a few more time to keep that going. I don't think paying 2 mana for 4 to the face is broken when you have it on a critter.

designing cube cards is tough, man. You're making cards for what is an 'all-star' format, it's tough to design something for that which is good enough to imagine printing but not too good to seem absurd.
But, you can't compare creatures to spells like that. Char does 4 damage once; this guy is allowed to attack every turn.

It is now. I think it's deceptively powerful, allowing you to bank two mana every time you'd like to kill a creature is pretty good. I think even Phyrexian Alter would be too good if it gave treasure instead of mana, because one turns attackers who have already dealt damage into main phase mana, and the other lets you cast colorless instants.
Is there any interest in some kind of "You Make the Cube Card" activity? Could make for a fun distraction and some more focused discussion on what we need/want from certain problem slots (I'm looking at you Black 5s).

Definitely! It would be cool to have them sent in, and then to do a poll to vote for...favorite? best designed? Not sure the parameter, but it's a *great* idea. The theme is great too, since they will have a point of comparison between them all.
Should probably limit it to just oracle text though, since not everyone will have the software to generate fake cards. That probably won't be a problem/concern for most people as is, but worth clarifying.

Yea, I was thinking of structuring it something like Wizards own; run it over a month or so, take submissions from forum users, discussion and a weekly vote to cover the main decision points (e.g. concept, casting cost, rules text, power toughness). Not too sure on the specifics yet but I will have a think over the next day or so on how to run it.
www.mtgcardsmith.com seems pretty solid for mocking up basic cards in order to get your submission across.

A month may be a bit drawn out considering what typical internet attention spans are (see: the beginning of project rank everythings vs the end) but like a week of submitting and then a week of voting would probably be good. There are so many options, and more turnover is better vs a longer period to submit cards. It shouldn't take too long to design a card, especially since there's no actual prize here other than 'yay I win', but shorter time frames is almost always better than longer in terms of people staying interested and topics not becoming stale.
I think Magus of the Loam is a possibility if they ever complete the sorcery Magi cycle. Eureka and Green Sun’s Zenith are the only two other iconic green sorceries that I can think of that’d make sense. The creature would be sick if it was an ETB trigger over an activated ability that requires sacrificing itself.
Probably needs to be "and another green creature". I could see it having a 2 mana activation, or maybe even one. You're already paying 4 to put it on the board. Compare to Riptide Shapeshifter, which costs a little bit more to play and to activate, but can tutor anything (given appropriate deck construction), doesn't require another creature to be sacrificed, and has a beefier main body.

I like it. I always feel like blue needs early blockers, this card achieves that but also lets me untap my mana rocks each turn for counter mana etc. infact it proabaly produces more mana than wall of roots in an artifact deck.
Would it be worth making the counters -1/-1? It seems like modern magic strays away from odd counters like 0/-1 and making the counters normal -1/-1 makes for more synergies.
Cultivator of Azcanta1G

Whenever you sacrifice a treasure token put a +1/+1 counter on Cultivator of Azcanta.
During your end step if Cultivator of Azcanta entered the battlefield this turn put two colorless Treasure artifact tokens with T: Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
