So does the Invo though. That art is super bland. If you're going to go for an invocation, at least get one with good artwork on it...
Agreed. If I had to play an invocation, it'd be Daze or Mind Twist. Both of these are stunningly good pieces of art. I hope they show up in a palatable border someday.

The only invocation I run is Hazoret and only because it reads "Hazoret the Pervert". Otherwise I hate the look of this masterpiece series.
The inventions though, that's another story =)
I actually defended the Invocations as not that bad when they were spoiled. Sure, they are the worst masterpieces and making the art smaller than on a normal card is super dumb, but the rest of the stylistic choices weren't that bad.
Well, I recently opened my first Invocation and after holding it in my hand, I had to revise my stance. It just looks absolutely terrible in person. The two main problems (smaller, therefore harder to see art and hard to read head line and type line) are heavily amplified by the extreme foil effect. On the online images, you couldn't really see this effect, but in person, it is just terrible.
I am generally against foil cards, because they make the cards harder to read and recognize (and thus harder to play with, which is just stupid for cards that are meant to playing with) but on the Invocations, this problem is multiplied.

Harder to read and play with in what sense? I'll admit that there are times that a glare might make the cards tough to read, but I'd attribute that more to the sleeves than the foiling. My only beef with foils, at least recent foils, is sometimes it's hard to tell if the card is foil or not until you really hold it under a light to see if it shines. If I could just get all the cards in old border foils, that'd be great.
Speaking of foils, (3 days ago, that is) how do we feel about prerelease promos? Personally, I'm torn. I like to get the most "swag" version of a card, but I'm not sure I like the gold date stamp on them. I am pretty attached to my prerelease Heart of Kiran, Liliana, Death's Majesty and The Scarab God, but I'm not sure if I should just trade them away for plain old foils.

Prerelease foils are more collectable than regular foils now (this used to not be the case). But aesthetically, I greatly prefer the ones without the dates.
New old (wow, how did I mess that up) border is clearly the best, but TSP just isn't the same. Price is about the same, I'm pretty much 50-50. Thoughts?
Judge foil for two reasons: Firstly, it has the better frame. Secondly, it doesn't have that ugly purple timeshifted icon. (Or am I the only one who hates how that color sticks out like a sore thumb among all normal set/rarity symbols?)
The old frame, and more importantly the old cardname font, is amazing. I go with that most of the time when there's an option.

Full art for sure on that one. Actually, on basically EVERY possible full-art card except for the absurdly bad-looking Dryad Militant.
Most full arts are pretty bad compared to their normal versions. I'm thinking of stuff like Ponder, Bolt (vs. the original Bolt), Cryptic Command, etc. The Game Day-type full arts like Abrade are often nice though. The Languish, for example.
For Abrade I think it's a toss-up. I think the promo has nicer art, but I strongly value original printings.

The pack version just looks like generic, irrelevant nonsense. It's not like you're missing out on anything.
