Actually paid 11 for the 1/4 last night, actually. Had a 3/3 beating me down, and this guy was level 1, so I just paid 8 mana to turn my 1/2 into a 1/4. Nice!
I like Arbor Elf. You should play him. I think he is noticeably worse than the guys that actually tap for mana, because Armageddon is a thing, and because sometimes I play him off of Llanowar Wastes or Horizon Canopy. The upside of him occasionally producing 2 if you have a Utopia Sprawl effect in play is not good enough to offset him occasionally producing 0, so he's not as good as the other guys.
I actually play 7 1CMC manadorks in my cube though.
And so far, I've been happy with that configuration. My green decks are SO much better when I have 4 or 5 of these guys, so making sure there are a bunch in the draft is a priority.
I have been playing the Elves of Deep Shadow and Avacyn's Pilgrim but the Arbor Elf has Waffled in and out. Those two are sometimes gold. Droping a Hypnotic Specter or Silverblade Paladin on turn two is terrific.
But all things considered I am going to find room for him again. Green is wildly popular with my group and everyone fights for the elves. I may pull utopia tree but I like it much better than everyone else here.
Where does Wall of Roots fall on this pantheon of acceleration for everyone?
I'm a big fan of Wall of Roots. I like it more than the "fringe" 1cc mana dorks.
I guess I feel he is best in G/X decks where you are not the beatdown. But those rarely come together as my playgoup loves Jund, G/W ramp and Reanimator.
Alright I think I will try to get a Wall of Roots in there while I am craming the Arbor elf in. Maybe Rampant Growth will go for it. I am really trying to push Green -->100% Creatures and creature fetching spells. Green Sun's Zenith, Natural Order, and Birthing Pod love it. Krosan Tusker was a great upgrade, and I am thinking of Chancellor of the Tanglecould be fun as well.
Another turn one play that serves a slightly different purpose is Greenseeker. He is very nice for fixing and thinning but not as much for ramp;but bonus interactions with reanimator, squee, madness, loam etc.
Arbor Elf was discussed here in the Random Cube Card of the Day thread. Come and find out how people's opinions of this cards have grown; has it taken root in your cube?

These are some of the decks that I like the Wall in the most. Being able to ramp and block is great for all kinds of non-aggro decks.

Agree absolutely! I'd add Wall of Roots as my next green ramp card after the four great 1 mana options (2 Elves, 1 Birds, 1 Noble).
Devoted Druid hasn't been bad for my group. It's probably my fringe-i-est ramp card, but it sometimes plops a 5-drop down on turn 3.
Cheers,
