I'm surprised when one wheels back to me. I'm not flabbergasted though, like I am when something truly absurd finds its way all the way around (I saw a Mana Drain table once).
Mutavault was discussed herein The Random Cube Card of the Day Thread. Forget Mutavault, I want you-to-vault over to the thread and join in the discussion.
(Spoiler: Great card. If you mana base and wallet can support it there is no real reason not to include it.)
Oh, good that there's a thread including both of these since I was eyeing them both in my last round of cuts. I'm not at that point just yet, but if you could only run one, which would you pick? My gut tells me Mishra's Factory as it's always on, but are there enough tribal synergies to push Mutavault over the top? The Gravecrawler interaction is especially sweet for example, but the times changeling has actually made a difference in game are few and far between for us, whereas Factory's +1/+1 is a regular thing.
I haven't played mutavault but on paper Mishra's Factory being able to block as a 3/3 is a much bigger upside than random tribal synergies (unless it's a tribal cube). That extra point of toughness means you can block opposing 2/1s all day and trades with a bunch of creatures that a 2/2 can't.
Factory all the way, cant see myself ever cutting it.
They're pretty much equal on offense, but Mishra's Workshop is better on defense. Sometimes your Mishra's Factory gets hit with a Smash to Smithereens or something, but being a 3/3 blocker gives it the edge.
That being said, they're both great and I'd run both at the smallest sized cubes. The only time I might not run them is when I'm playing super greedy decks and during deckbuilding I realize I can't afford the colorless land, but that's rare. (Less rare than I'd like, but still lol)
I understand what you mean with the color restriction but lands that are also creature are just so strong. It essentially lets you put another threat in your deck without sacrificing any other cards
Yeah I mean, I'm not saying this is a regular occurrence by any means, just kind of a niche/extreme example. Usually it finds a way, but during some juggles it's the pin dropped.
