First off, you are killing it this spoiler season Steve Man.
Second--interesting card. I think it might not be playable because it's a lot harder to keep 7 cards in hand once you get to 3 mana, but it's def strong for a slower cube and wouldn't be surprised to see it be better in practice than theory.
It's not easy to get 7 cards in your hand without effort.. even for blue control decks. against Agro it's almost impossible unless you've already fully stabilized. It also is almost never a blocker the turn you cast it against Agro.
Generally if you are the control deck in the mid-late game you are already winning if you have 7 cards.
While obviously a 5/5 flying indestructible is insane, it's still answerable by the all white removal , black edicts (relevant if you are blue control) and control magic effects.
It seems sick with decks that have ancestral recall or tons of efficient card draw (painful truths + treasure cruise or something) but outside of that I'm not sold.
Also an awsome card for control mirrors.

This is where I'm at right now. The activated ability is too expensive for big mana decks to abuse and they probably blew their hand on ramp
anyways. Being able to survive every sweeper not named Toxic Deluge is pretty big game. I like that I can potentially sit on this for a while or play it later with counter magic open and just draw-go my opponent to death. Also works great in Upheaval decks as a cheap / fast finisher.
Seems absurd with Library. Though pretty much everything is, so not sure that's truly an endorsement.
I don't know. I dislike indestructible as an ability honestly. My primary objection to the god designs (talking mechanics not flavor - flavor is a win). Still, 3 mana for a 5/5 flyer the ignores destroy effects? Wow. There's also some janky landfall engine here I guess. I don't know. Probably not something I'm going to try out unless reports are really positive.
I do like this set though. Really cool theme and some interesting mechanics.
I'll probably try this over Shu Yun, which seems somewhat unexciting now (and is classified as mono-blue because I'm lazy). I'm not sold on it largely for the reasons LucidVision noted, so it'll probably be an "if I open it at the prerelease or once it rotates" kind of situation.
This is really miserable if you can't attack or block with it, and pretty hard to attack or block with even on the draw -- Kefnet forbid you're on the play. Don't even think it's in the top 5 outside looking in blue 3s.

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
I think the draw ability is too fairly costed in conparison to how difficult the clause is to unlock it for combat. Cool card, but I think it's a miss.

I agree, but it seems fair to add that it comes with a decent ability to help you get back to 7 cards more easily. If you have at least 5 cards and the mana, you can awaken him (at a cost for your manabase). And in a draw-go style deck the possibility of awkaening him can already deter attacks.
I mean, it's pretty great, if you play this turn 3 and still have at least 5 cards on turn 4. That seems doable. In many other situations though, when you can't get back to 7, it's really bad.
More I think on this, the more I'm thinking it probably doesn't work in most lists. Most cubes are likely too fast to allow this to shine. Keeping 7 cards in your hand means you are developing the board pretty slowly, or you have degenerate card draw - in which case you could be winning with pretty much anything else. Discard against you is also going to wreck the value of this card pretty badly. With this guy in play, getting hit by Hymn to Tourach might as well come with an o-ring rider attached to it.
Is there ever a time where holding the cards for/setting up this god will be better than just casting what you have and interacting in other ways? It seems a pacified 5/5 indestructible flying Azure Mage that discourages you from playing spells will be the average case here.
I still wanna test this. I've always wanted some sort of Azure Mage type effect, but it probably won't stand the test of time. I still like the Upheaval / Wildfire and traditional control applications. It also gives Izzet counterburn a payoff card for their draw 7s, although I'm not sure this will be consistent enough in that deck. One strike I have against the new gods is that always being a creature makes them more vulnerable to exile effects than Devotion based gods.
First off, you are killing it this spoiler season Steve Man.
Thanks! I'm on my phone a lot when I'm at work and always follow the hashtags on Twitter of whatever the new set is, so I get new card information pretty much as soon as it's spoiled. I know a lot of people struggle posting the images on their phone, but it's pretty easy if you know the right method. Heads up though, I'm leaving in Mexico City this Thursday for a wedding, so don't expect instant cube spoiler news for a couple days at the end of the week from me.
I think Azure Mage would be a better Azure Mage than this, and while that sounds snarky I'm kinda serious--at least Azure Mage can attack.
Big Bird's Big Selling Point (TM) to me is that it literally survives every sweeper not named Toxic Deluge and needs to be answered by very specific removal spells. Azure Mage is a 2/1 for 2 mana who literally dies to everything.
Kefnet appeals to the durdler inside of me. I think it might go well with superfriends, especially with PWs that can draw cards for profit like Jace. Kefnet seems well positioned in Wildfire since it survives and is easily cast post-wildfire (just like Upheaval).
Yeah, I hear your points, but that's a valuable cube spot for something that most of the time will be a three mana permanent that has a 4 mana draw-one ability. There are probably other durdle cards you could run that have more application, and even more so you could use that cube spot to play a card that you might have had to cut begrudgingly from what is the tight blue section. Azure Mage dies to everything and is probably not good enough as well, but at least it'll attack when I have 4 cards in hand. If you can't attack or block with Kefnet, and if 4 mana is not the best thing you could be doing with your mana which I imagine will be the case in the majority of instances, then you have a card that does nothing no matter what it survives through.
I don't think this will be a creature often unless you've got the stone nuts for blue draw in your deck. Even then, what would you cut for this? Clique? True Name? Man-o-War? Blue 3s aren't as stacked as 4s but for a niche card that takes hard work to turn on in cube, this seems like an easy pass.
That said, I'm excited to play this in my Kami of the Crescent Moon EDH deck. I've always got a full grip there, and instant draw, even if it's expensive, seems good and doable in that format.

So, if I manage to open one of these I will definitely be testing it.
The thing about it is, that while it is definitely hard to turn on as a top deck, I can imagine it running away with enough games when you have it early to make up for that. If you drop it turn three, you may just be too busy winning with an indestructible 5/5 flyer to care that you're limited to playing one land or spell per turn after that.
I'm not expecting this to happen so consistently that it ends up being a staple, but it's worth testing to find out.
I'd cut True Name for pretty much anything because it's just a stupid card.
But I agree blue cuts are rough in general and I'm not sure this is worth finding a slot for.
Stupid cards are what my cube is all about!

It's probably better than it looks. I mean, you can use the ability reactively at the end of the opponent's turn, and you can go from 4 cards in hand to 7 by your next attack step. It can get itself online surprisingly effectively, and is a powerful win condition as a 5/5 indestructible creature with evasion. If I had room for an extra 3cc blue creature, I might test it out and see how it does.
Seems playable in traditional draw / go control decks. Thoughts?

Yeah pretty underwhelming for cube though. Really want to have a non red god card in cube just because gods are cool
