Yup, gonna play it. 5/5 for 5 that makes 4/4's for 4. And can get in damage without attacking at no cost. This is the first card I'm really excited to play.
I also love that you can target any players graveyard. Opponents can't use graveyard shenanigans on a creature as long as you have 4 mana up.
As well, it opens up zombie tribal a bit more if people want to go that route. No need to as this guy makes his own zombies but it's a nice little cherry on top.
Oh yeah, and he doesn't die :/
I think this God is pretty good, it's essentially fat Meloku that makes fat tokens. Meloku can go wider and has evasion, but this has a key 5 toughness and can recur. Being able to Damnation the board and recur this next turn is pretty strong, especially since it'll have graveyard fodder post-Damnation. I'll probably test this over Silumgar, at least as a carry-over until we get Hostage Taker in Ixalan. Black and blue's 5-drop creature slot is very shallow, so this should fit decently.
I honestly don't care too much about the overall power level here. It's enough of a limited bomb that I'm sure it gets there on some level, but this card just looks flat-out FUN. It supports everything I ever want to do in this color combination and then some. How's about holding open mana for a Spell Queller?
It's enormous, unkillable, and makes repeated Body Doubles. The zombie text is not irrelevant either. This thing the full ziggity zoop. All he's missing is evasion (which is a good thing). I'm always nervous to put cards this pushed into my cube.
I'm sure I won't be able to resist adding it if I open it, but I won't be shelling out whatever he's sure to cost.
At 450 I'm playing Strix, Tog, and Tezzeret. If I added another, it'd be between this and Silumgar, and this seems way more interesting than Silumgar. But I love the artifact deck too much to cut Strix or Tezzeret, and Tog is Tog. Seems fun with Liliana, Death's Majesty, though.

I like this dude, but I don't like that the upkeep trigger isn't guaranteed. I wish he was a zombie himself. That would have put him over the top for me. Plus, zombie god or god zombie would be so metal! As is, I think I still prefer the dragon to this guy.

I'm leaning this way too. Silumgar's impact on the board is pretty dramatic, and the ability to steal 'walkers is also clutch.
Ill probably try this in Ashiok's place. I've loved the PWer, but it can be a dud whereas this dude can be kinda fun. Plus blue and black are lacking for CMC 5 creatures so this will slot in nicely as the 'bomb' of that slot. (Excluding the virtual blue 'creatures' in Bribery/Treachery.)
I have been running Havengul Lich for a long time so I might give this guy a shot over him.
Looking at my list, making a lot of the Blue or Black creatures that cost 4 or less into a 4/4 is a big upgrade and the same is true for some of the bigger creatures as well.
Havengul Lich is a pet card of mine that I had to take out of cube because no one was drafting him - this seems like a much better version of that. It may be less powerful than some of my UB in cube now, but it's much more interesting - I'll try to find room.
Even though I LOVE far//away (I think that card consistently over-performs expectations cause it's SO flexible), I think I will try this in it's place. Such a good post-wrath play in like esper control.
Now that I think about it, The Scarab GOD is essentially a bigger Nighteyes the Desecrator (the flipped version of Nezumi Graverobber)....
I like Silumgar, but he's very reliant on your opponent's board state and is a dog to your own wraths. TSG being 5-cmc is huge for black and blue, curves well from a sweeper, eats Wildfire / Languish, can take over the game by himself, recurs, and has incidental graveyard hate. While I wouldn't play him with Gravecrawler and friends, he pairs well with Skinrender / Kalitas / Liliana, Death's Majesty / Grave Titan.
I agree - this seems like a nice fit in control-ish shells. It's a great creature for attrition games. It has to be dealt with ASAP, ideally by exiling it, or it will take over the game.
Considering replacing Dragonlord Silumgar with it - it makes for more interesting decisions IMHO.

He doesn't lack evasion. Even if you don't have any zombies in your deck Scarab G will make them leading directly to life loss (and scry!). A 4/4 looter il-kor or nekrataal zombie is pretty bonkers.
The Scarab God is pretty good. Not sure what to cut for it, but it is pretty good. I really like that it makes 4/4 copies, not just 4/4 tokens. And 5/5 is a beefy body for 5 mana.
- 5/5 for 5
- Recurs
- Eats graveyards and eteranlizes things
- Has a weird upkeep trigger that begs it to be paired with Grave Titan

I think this will be the root of its ultimate playability. Very few playable true 5cc creatures for tapout control shells.

I wish The Locust God was this pushed.
Uril, the Miststalker RGW -- Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre C -- Vhati il-Dal BG -- Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer RW -- Animar, Soul of Elements URG
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker R -- Maga, Traitor to Mortals B -- Ghave, Guru of Spores BGW -- Sliver Hivelord WUBRG
Love the card regardless, easily my favourite in the set so far (which has been lacklustre up to this point)

Making it particularly good with previously evoked shriekmaws and mulldrifters and, oh gee, look at what colors those happen to be in! =P
