This seems like a pretty solid card to me. Yes it creates 2 tokens for the opponent, but on hit you get a Lotus vale, which can be used the same turn since it won't be tapped. Cast and equip costs seem reasonable too. Stick this on a flyer, shadow, etc. and profit.
Seems like the kinds of decks that want a Trusty Machete aren't the kinds of decks that would want to transmute it into a Gilded Lotus. If I'm strapping a piece of equipment to an evasive creature and punching through for damage ...it seems like I might want to keep that line of play available.
Can't see what deck would want this. A straight ahead aggro deck wouldn't want to give your opponent blockers and doesn't need a Lotus Vale land. A midrange deck would just get more value on average from Sword of the Animist.
Dream scenario is turn 1 creature / turn 2 this, turn 3 equip and Lotus Vale it up, but there's more consistent ways to get mana.
Cool design, easy pass. It's kinda weird where both sides seem different for where they would want to go, but I like exploring outside the box it's a good sign for magic's future as the game has proven to thrive over innovation.
I really like the design but the 2 equip cost is a bit sucky, although probably necessary for standard. It is an disappointing pass from me, I really hope I can get one of these new flip cards in though.
One thing to note is it does get a lot better in a multiplayer setting where the tokens wont necessarily be in the way, infact it can be used politically. I don't think that saves it for me but it's maybe worth thinking about for a larger multiplayer cube.
Edit- If you already have an evasive creature it plays kinda like a hedron archive (less the card draw); 4 mana for 3 mana of ramp. It doesn't need to come down turn 2, on 5 or 6 it can be played and equipped and basically pay for itself. Its also a may on the transform, so if you are fine beating down you can keep doing that or only cash it in after a Balance or something.
Let me know when cube turns into Hypnotic Siren: The Format. The best decks to take advantage of this require both evasive one-drops and mana sinks, and cube decks just aren't built to support that.
turn 1 some evasive creature turn 2 dagger turn 3 flip and mana rock...not bad i suppose especially since turn 4 is 6-8 mana buuuut....could it be better?.....turn 1 bird turn two dagger, turn three equip + flip +voyaging satyr(or some untap permanent reature)x2 or something turn 4 13 mana...torment of hailfire?
