Anyone play with this card before? Early, selective discard spells are very powerful in Black, and Unmask can provide that on turn 1, on the same turn as Thoughtseize, Inquisition and Duress, albeit at the cost of a Black card. I understand that the alternative cost is a hefty one, but can this effect be worth the cost? Thoughts?
It's not something I am interested in, the card disadvantage just seems too much of a setback. I get it was decent in its relevant format but you were pitching less powerful cards to it, I think I would usually feel bad about whatever cards I'm pitching to it in the early game especially since (unlike FoW) I wont know what my target is until the spell resolves. I cant even imagine the feel bads in getting it countered.
If it just discarded the card rather than exiling it I would probably be onboard with it because of graveyard synergies, but as is, I would much rather just run Thoughtseize, Inquisition and Duress.
I know it’s used in decks like Dredge and BR Reanimator in eternal formats, but your cube would have to be like the comboiest of combo cubes where things were ending on T1-2 for it to have a useful role.
its a turn one discard outlet with upside if you are holding exhume, animate dead, dance of the dead in a reanimator deck. easily pitch one of the recursive black 1 drops and get it back if thats your game as well...
There are uses for it but i think its too narrow overall. I'd rather play thoughtseize, inquisition, or duress in the vast majority of situations/decks.

You exile the black card, not discard it. Unless you mean exile a card to cast this targeting yourself, but that seems bad.

You have to exile the card you pitch to it. Unless you're talking about 3-for-1-ing yourself to get a fatty into the yard. Might be okay to set up a T2 reanimated Griselbrand in a pinch, but it would never be worth discarding 3 cards to set up recursive 1-drop shenanigans...
Unless your cube has decks that go off insanely quickly, this card isn't needed, and won't get played. Even in a much powered down cube like mine, I couldn't see taking Unmask over much of anything. The alternate cost is too hefty to be needed in the average game, and the "normal" casting cost is very unappealing. Even in a game where you need this early, you aren't necessarily going to know you needed to pitch the card until it's too late, and if you gamble on pitching the card, you might find yourself sacrificing card advantage for some total crap.
I would like to see more playable hand disruption for a cube at my size. The best underplayed ones I know are Stupor and Agonizing Memories.
