Contraptions probably depend more on how we would implement them than the contraptions themselves. Obviously they aren't worth slots in the cube, but (presuming we get a half decent assembler) having a contraption deck of all the good contraptions separate from the cube seems pretty reasonable.
Having said that, talking about them does seem kind of useless without knowing how good the assemblers are.
Kindly cognician seems alright in any cube that has artifacts. with her im honestly looking at what would happen if i moved my U/B archetype to artifacts as so far her discount of cards that reference artifacts seems strong.
Io it may not be the best card ever but it will be a fun card that does slot into the fliers archetype while also opening the door for a storm esque theme in the Izzet spellsmatter archetype for atleast my cube.
Crow Storm is cutesy but probably just crappy. T6 cantrip, two-drop, this... and you get THREE power out of the deal?
Right if you're not supporting a storm package it's def not worth it, I haven't seen it tried in peasant but I imagine it's possible but tough since in reg cube those decks are typically 3+ colors.
i mean we have majority of the payoff cards and cantrips but i will make a seperate thread on storm as an archetype so not to detract from the UN spoilers
I thought about Peasant Cube as soon as I saw Crow Storm and I was a little underwhelmed. My immediate thought was towards Illusory Angel, which seems quite a bit better to me. I do not currently play Angel, but I understand how strong it can be with the right "free" spells and suspend cards, as would Crow Storm.
I suppose there is something to be said for fitting this into Izzet spells archetype, but I feel like that deck is mostly about a slow-burn of repeatable incremental effects, like Guttersnipe or Young Pyromancer, not a big turn for Storm.
Yeah, it would def be good with Guttersnipe and Young Pyro. I imagine this will be a card that, for peasant, will be on the back burner for if/when the 'spells matter' deck fully comes togehter, as making a bunch of 1/2 fliers for 2U is so much better than Empty the Warrens.
When you empty the warrens for 3, which I would consider a success, you're doing something pretty game altering.
This card gets you a slightly better spectral procession in the same circumstance. Spectral procession is of course one of the best cards we have, but do I really want to work for my spectral procession? Not really.

'Spells Matter' is incredibly different from Storm, though. I mean, there's basically two cards (Manamorphose and Gitaxian Probe) that work well as overlap, but otherwise you just aren't going to win games going cantrip, cantrip, three 1/2 flying tokens as a 'payoff'.
Well yes, but that's why in Spells Matter you have those cards like Young Pyro and Guttersnipe that make those three 1/2s actually much more. Again, as I said in the post you quoted, I don't think it's there yet mostly because of the lack of Young Pyros/Guttersnipes, but it's not out of the question that they print a couple more good ones and it becomes way more viable and this card goes up in stock. If I had either of those out while that sequence that leads up to 3 storm crows happens, that seems really good, the main issue is that beyond those two the options arent too great. Talrand should be uncommon lol
You can just cube up 5-10 copies of Young Pyromancer if you wanted to, but it still wouldn't make Crow Storm particularly playable. It just doesn't do enough on average cast at 1, 2, or 3 copies on the stack.
3 1/2 fliers for 2U seems pretty good in spells matter. Again, I agree that it's not there yet, but it can be a card that could do some serious work, especially if all those 1/2 fliers also make 1/1 elements or shock the opponent for 2, and hopefully more similar options like that in the future.
Mantis is kinda interesting and an OK power level, but also awful design in that once people know it's in the cube they'll start spreading their cards around wildly. Hard pass.
mantis seems fine even if you rule it as a split second fight target thing if manual dexterity seems bad to you. i feel like it could be fun paired with temur sabertooth and again if we are cubing my peasant cube we are doing it to have fun because my play group has its serious cube and CU/be has always been treated as a more lighthearted event for my group so this seems just fine there if treated as manual dexerity or as a semi-split second fighter
Mantis could be cool with the errata that Chaos Orb has for 93-94 format (still manual dexterity but only has one target). As is, not really worth the hassle
I think we may be selling Crow Storm a little short. At one other spell it's comparable to Midnight Haunting (not instant, but better tokens) and at two spells it's better than Spectral Procession. Its only bad outcome is just casting it with nothing. I get if it's a little underwhelming, but it's not uncubable.
Not being able to cast it for two tokens on 3 mana is a bad outcome.
Getting a sorcery speed midnight haunting on turn 4 mana is indeed bad.
Getting a spectral procession as a payoff probably around turn 6 is bad.
Another step on the way to the artifact archetype we'll be a few cards short of including in our cubes around 2025?

Having said that, talking about them does seem kind of useless without knowing how good the assemblers are.
Draft it on Cubetutor here, and CubeCobra here.
Treasure Cruise did nothing wrong.
from card like Tinker to Ongoing investigation it seems powerful
It's good at cheapening your Abrade and Faith's Fetters but awful at actually suggesting an archetype.
