The thing with these type of cards is the just need to hit once or twice most games. I was excited about this at first but as point out above there are not ways to drop 3 counters on this in a turn unlike champion to make up for the times its a 1/1 until turn 4
This is my problem as well. It is better at aggro than stuff I am running but no synergies to speak of and occasionally will die to disenchants. And the'wrath protection' is meh as it is likely this will get wrathed before you reconfigure
Personally I find smashing way over rated. Most of my red decks dont get over 4 mana or they lose anyway. This is way better than that. Should be buyable for $5 after a few weeks
I think there are plenty of cubes that like this. Maybe larger, maybe rarity limited, but it's not like we don't play tons of mana dorks that can just get bolted.
I love this card for every reason you mention about broad applicability be will also not be playing it for the reasons you mention. Give me the rare or mythic White creature that lease behind equipment. Then we are talking. I really do want more artifacts and blink and tokens, so hopefully ancestral blade 3.0 will be great
I wish the card worked with madness or flashback or force of will cards etc. but those are nitpicks. Card is really interesting, different, powerful and will likely have some neat interactions for cubers to discover. Obviously scavenging ooze is a clear combo. It works with both seasoned pyromancer and najella but those are 3 drops an compete for this space. Other cards I am playing like Chandra, Phoenix of Ash, Grom Lavamancer, and Bomat Courier play well. As I am really moving more to a graveyard red theme this is one I am excited to try.
This card is good and I won't blame anyone for running it, but I am thin on gold slots and I won't be running more than one removal piece in a guild and this doesn't beat vindicate. I have a hard time spending a gold slot when white and black have amazing removal as it is.
To try this I would either need it to be an instant or have any spells matters cards in green. This would see play in plent of U/G and R/G and even B/G decks as a back up if they don't get better draw in their colors or for more density but it doesn't just need to be better than Oath for me, it would need to be a lot better.
Card probably plays quite well but there are lots of 'plays quite well' cards don't include
