Oh shiiiit Slivers on Amonkhet!?
"The colourless deck isn't just Eldrazi"................. damnit
As cool as that would have been, with only 10 new cards, it would have been really hard to do.
If anything, it's true the exact contrary. More are the cards more is difficult making all them eldrazi themed.
my thought was having more slots would mean more at the lower CMC. right now it's very hard to make a pure Eldrazi deck because there are so few things to include for less than 6 mana
Why not? Under what government's law is that a problem?
People say stuff like this all the time and I've never seen someone actually explain it and I'm pretty sure that's because it's just not true. This seems especially evident every time someone goes "Aren't they acknowledging the secondary market by doing X?" and they usually are, but no one seems to care besides those people.
It's gambling laws. Companies that sell randomized products are walking a very fine line where they have to be legally ignorant of the fact monetary value differential in their product. So a game creator/marketing material may talk about how you can open a lot of "exciting" cards, but better not say "expensive". It's stupid/silly, but so many fine legal distinctions are.
You can find articles/videos analyzing the issues and how it applies to loot boxes, randomized collectible games (physical and digital), gacha etc. As so often, it is not only stupid, but also fascinating.
Exactly. You will see Maro lean heavily on 'desired', 'high demand', 'powerful' and such, those words do a lot of heavy lifting for him, but he and the others will never say 'expensive', they will never recognize publicly that those cards cost a different number of dollars at the LGS, because the moment they do, it becomes gambling under US law. It is gambling, we all know it's gambling, but their lawyers will deny it. It's the same basic reason they got rid of ante.
huh? If you told me to pick one card from the YEAR Ixalan came out to leave at mythic, it would be the 9 mana, 3 color behemoth. that is the definition of mythic for limited
Yes, but much more important they keep Loyal Retainers at mythic to preserve its secondary market value. The thing Wizards definitely doesn't keep track of!
Has anyone at Wizards actually claimed they don't? It would certainly be unwise for them to make claims about resale value, but as far as I know, just looking at sale prices would not be a problem at all.
They are not allowed to acknowledge the secondary market in any way, be at that point, they could not sell packs to minors
haha, yay! this is the one i specifically said was the reprint I wanted to make up for just reprinting my trade binder just page by page. this makes me feel better

I'm glad to see this one. The big hits so far had felt like Wizards going through my trade binder and the stuff I just recently got and picking only those. I'm glad to see a hit I actually want to pick up.
Please note, I am all about reprints, and I don't mind my stuff getting reprinted, it's just nice to also see stuff I don't own. if they give me Balefire Dragon at this point, I'll be pretty happy
Is it just me, or is it odd to keep choosing the same lands arts again and again for 'special' treatments?
Yes, very odd. It's a mostly-reprint premium-priced set, they definitely could have splashed out on commissioning new art from these artists (Is poole dead? It occurs to me he may be dead).
It's not like these were particularly high value or chase basics, unlike something such as Guru or APAC/EURO.
Poole is only 59, and very much alive, pretty sure he's even still working.
but yeah, new art, or reimagine old art. I would pay dearly for a full art of the Lorwyn flower swamp. or Unglued basics reprint, both are better options than stuff that is hard to tell from what Dominaria Remastered (an amazing set, no knocking it at all) just had.
I love the art but my first impression is it seems too slow and conditional for not enough of a payoff.
Probably great for limited and offers card advantage to white weenie decks, but I'd personally be disappointed to buy an arguably overpriced booster of this set and open this up as my mythic when there are plenty of rares I'd prefer to see instead.
Personally I like when mythics are not just overpowered Ragavans, they should be the more niche, interesting cards in the deck. Also remember that this is 2 mana, it doesn't win the game by itself, but it's very easy to fit into whichever turn you want. in a weenie deck or something, it doesn't even eat up the entire turn. Drop it turn 3-4, draw 4 cards over a couple turns in white? it's not the strongest card of the set, but I bet you are going to see this on the TCG top sellers of the week list with some frequency.
This is going to bring up the argument about whether the Balrog has wings or not, isn't it?
See I never understood that being a problem for people. Fire and shadow have no srt form, and Maiar generally also don't, it isn't able to fly, but wings would be on a whim, it could change having wings or not over the course of walking down the hallway.

over an hour into that game, just to make friends

If obnoxious prices make something not count, I would definitely say that packs of this set do not count.
