In regards to the Vizier and Devoted Druid build....what is the thought on running both commands and chord? I am currently Trying 2 Chords and 4 Commands. Gives me more options to plant my combo pieces and with Chord, right into the battlefield and command gives me more control of my game state. My first thought was that it can result in overkill in tutors but it feels quite solid.
Ugh...I was all excited about Garruk Green; and now I'm spending time brewing with the Vizier Combo :). We are blessed with too many options! Could have worse problems
I am doing the same. So far it isn't too far off from what Ross Merriam has done. I am excited to see what you come up with for testing!
So I have been messing around with Genesis Wave recently with my playgroup and have been doing pretty well. Just so you know my playgroup consists of U/W Control, Dredge, RDW and Soul Sisters so it's fairly competitive.
The deck itself is pretty cut and dry but I got my hands on a playset of Vexing Shusher's and it seems to have made a massive difference. Being able to leave a couple mana open for it's ability to protect Genesis Wave has worked out. It's still somewhat inconsistent (which seems to be the nature of NyxWave) but the shusher's have leveled it out a bit. They also allow me to protect any hardcasted Emrakul, craterhoof and primetime's.
I have also thought of adding in Dosan the Falling Leaf instead of Vexing Shusher since it completely negates my opponent on my turn. I know it works both ways but I have very little to no interaction on my opponents turn. Downside is Dosan can be countered before he reaches the battlefield while shusher can't be countered.
Here is the deck and as always, I appreciate any input!
Cleaned it up a bit. Let me know what you think! I'm testing heavily tonight. Will let you know how it goes. Will be playing mainly against Eldrazi Tron, Death's Shadow, Titanshift, Storm, Burn, Abzan, Affinity, U/W Control, and Elves...
The board will likely change a little...and I really can run any color I want (as the main board is entirely mono-green). I am open to any sideboard ideas you guys have (cards you've loved, packages that have worked well for you, etc.)...they can be literally any color.
Deck looks good! I am curious how well Garruk, Caller of Beasts does since the new rule will be live soon.
Also, with Horizon Canopy being reprinted in November I am looking at picking up a few depending on price drop. Which leads me to playing with the idea of splashing white for Elesh Norn and a playset of Path's. It would help with removal since running mono green tends to let my opponent build some board presence.
I have made some minor updates on my previous list. So far I am enjoying the split of Overgrowth's and BOP's. I dropped Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger for Emrakul since activating chord at x=15 hasn't been much of an issue. Also, I am testing Harmonize over Wistful Selkie for draw power. Comments / critiques are appreciated!
This looks GREAT! It has ramp, card draw, and POWERFUL win-conditions. I'd love to hear how it is testing/peforming. You also can build quite a Toolbox board with all of those Commands, Chords, and Genesis Hydra. I haven't tested it, so I can't give tiny, more in-depth pointers...but the list looks strong.
I really want to get a 1-of Genesis Hydra in my Garruk Green deck just seeing your list...maybe I'll squeeze one or two in
So far it's been very consistent! Funny you mention the Genesis Hydra as its been a champ in the last 7/8 games since adding it back in. Being able to tutor just about anything I need for ramp while cycling my cards back in to the library has been super beneficial. Also having Hydra come out as a solid blocker if need be has helped me on a few occasions.
Side note...my biggest issue recently has been a friends token deck. I have ratchet bombs in sideboard but if he gets 4 or 5 turns without me casting them it's game over. I have won 3 times by getting lucky and rushing Emrakul and a couple other times by playing the token game with Garruk.

If you go Chord, you can't use that for Harmonize, and Selkie won't do much. You want a better card advantage engine to search for. I prefer Titan with Treetops and Kessig, but Regal Force is another choice.
Makes sense, I guess I was thinking since Selkie won't benefit Chord all that much (aside from convoke, which isn't a big deal) I may as well run Harmonize and Chord for the extra draws.
Regal Force is a great suggestion and it would give me a high probability of strong draw since getting many creatures out isn't difficult with this deck. Definitely something I will playtest.
I have been playing this deck for a couple years now and have had great fun with it. My decklist is pretty standard but I would love any comments / critiques on it! I sort of feel like I have too much ramp. I have recently added Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger as I have too much mana than I know what to do with and I have rarely had any issues hard casting him. I was thinking of switching it out for Darksteel Colossus since he provides trample and the milling I get from Ulamog hasn't seemed to have much effect. Also, I don't own any Tooth and Nail's so I haven't been able to test it out. Thoughts?
Ulamog is fine, mill notwithstanding. He's an uncounterable effect that exiles two permanents. This is one of our weaker areas, and he fills it. It doesn't matter if his milling is irrelevant. The relevant questions are:
1. How often do you get to cast Ulamog?
2. How often do you win after casting Ulamog?
You answered 1 as almost all the time. I suspect the answer to 2 is the same.
Thanks for taking the time to look darkview!
Yes, to answer the first question, it becomes very easy for me to get Ulamog out (majority of my games played) and once he is out I usually win unless he gets hit with Path to Exile.
I may drop 1 primeval and run Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre as well as Ceaseless Hunger. Also, since I don't have Tooth and Nail currently I was looking at adding in 2 Chords to help with tutoring out my big guys.
Last thing, does anyone have an opinion of possibly switching the Wistful Selkie for Harmonize. I enjoy the draw and devotion from Wistful but being able to draw 3 with harmonize sounds pretty great.
I notice that most of your creatures that are inexpensive produce mana, and you have tons of permanents. You can certainly use Chord, which is guaranteed and instant. However, if you think Convoke is less important, Genesis Wave costs the same amount and is an absolute blast. It's where I started. A 13 mana Wave in your deck probably wins on the spot.
As far as Selkie versus Harmonize, I was never crazy about Selkie. That said, it's especially popular with Genesis Wave builds, because it is a devotion-boosting cantrip. If devotion is not your problem, Harmonize has more punch. But that wouldn't mix with Wave.
Wave is a good idea, I could probably get away with just 2. I used to run 4 and felt I drew it dead too often. I see what you are saying in regards to Harmonize not syncing with Wave like Selkie can. I guess if I go chord I can run Harmonize and Wave will be selkie.

unless you're facing entirely affinity, i would say without a doubt you've gone way overboard on the artifact/enchantment removal.
and this deck is pretty resilient to blood moon as well, so you shouldn't be worrying about being able to remove it.
you've also neglected the other really hard top-tier matchups for this deck:
- scapeshift
- UWR Control
- RG Tron
Yeah, I totally see what you mean. I do have way to much Affinity hate. I really like the idea of Bonfire of the Damned and getting some Blood Moon and Spellskite action in the sideboard will do me some good.
3. Run a full set of Wooded Foothills. This will make sure you get your Stomping Grounds a little more consistently, will provide a card for an early Eternal Witness to grab (and help you get more lands based on this interaction), will help you thin the deck (it's not much, but it's something), and most importantly...they're MODERN LEGAL now!!!
The deck looks great as is though. Please keep us updated on both your sideboard choices and how it plays/tests!
Thanks Curdbros, I will probably be grabbing a set of Wooded Foothills when Khans comes out and the reason I'm playing with Elvish Archdruid over Courser of Kruphix is because I already own them. I do plan on grabbing a playset of Courser of Kruphix very soon. I'll be testing between the two and give you guys my results!

Oh man, I really like the Devoted Druid/Vizier combo. I feel like Path's could slide in instead of Push but both work great for their intended uses.
Also, I am getting closer to picking up some Walking Ballista's. They seem to be a solution/win-con to quite a few of our problems.
