    +2 mace

    Equip 3

Seems like a big oops there.

The name is also incredibly stupid.

Mark Rosewater had this discrepancy pointed out and he said that aesthetics do not justify excessive power. They apparently do not want vulshok morningstar to ever return for limited reasons. Does anyone remember whether the morningstar caused problems in Mirrodin limited?

It did not. I remember trying to play equipment and getting blown the fck out by everything bar that mace. It is a solid equipment as +2 for 2 is sweet though. But there was decent artefact removal.....looking at you glissa sunseeker.

So I know it isn't out yet and we haven't even had 1/2 the spoilers yet BUT we have had the 3 Planeswalkers spoiled, the entire dungeons spoiled and around half the rares plus 9/12 mythics. So I like to think after playing magic since Apocalypse I can guess how this set is gonna go.

I have cancelled all preorders I had for this set and yes I preordered a lot because I am a massive fan of D&D lore.
So I was wondering what everyone else's thoughts were.
I chose worst since 2019 as Eldrain was a lot better in it's first few days of spoilers.
The mechanics, even adamant were pretty interesting and made us feel like they could go the distance (even when they didn't). Dungeon mechanic not only seems limited viable only but also not viable in EDH where most things can be carried.
My other issue is that Zendikar's party & Kaldheim's tribal mechanic doesn't work with D&D, as they invented a large number of new creature types (Ranger, Teifling & etc).
I do feel the commander decks should have had their own stronger dungeons or they should have changed the dungeons to mirror the planechase cards. I would have loved to bring back that planechase feel with schemes/events too.

Do let me know in the comments!
Also cancel your orders if you have preordered! I would personally wait till after set is released before deciding you want any of it Frown

I never thought I'd say this but damn does this make the man lands in BFZ look so much better.

In terms of power level of black manlands

First: Creeping Tar Pit (3 mana 3/2 with unblockable)
Second: Hissing Quagmire (3 mana for a 2/2 death touch)
Third: Spawning Pool (2 mana 1/1 with regenerate, a great blocker)
Fourth: Lavaclaw Reaches (3 mana 2/2 with shivan dragon pump.)
Dead last: Hive of the Eye Tyrant (a 4 mana 3/3 with menace)

At least the lavaclaw land can take out large creature if it needs to. These man lands are super depressing.

But as we are at the beginning of preview season, there are many more chances for WotC to surprise me/us. They better, or this set will bomb (really not too impressed so far).

I don't know I am already super disappointed with this set. There is only 3 dungeons in the whole set and they are super generic. Like the dungeons just aren't any value on themselves. You get a legendary 4/4 death-touch GOD for completing one of them, doesn't have indestructible or anything. Another one is literally Draw Card. Like why spend 4 spells (which you know will be meh/standard level) to draw 1 card. Not 2,3 or X cards....no 1.

I was hoping for more cool ones that could affect the whole board, like the planechase cards. Seriously how did they make these dungeons seem so much more meh than Fields of Summer?. This set feels like portal 4.0, expecting interrupt cards and rares that look like RtR commons.

    Hi,

I am trying to figure out how many combos I can make with Mimeoplasm? So far I have found some but was hoping there were more I haven't thought of yet.

    1. The Mimeoplasm exiles Walking Ballista / Triskelion and X. Daka Daka Combo
    2. The Mimeoplasm exiles Maga, Traitor to Mortals / Ukkima, Stalking Shadow and X. Boom Combo
    3. The Mimeoplasm exiles Crystalline Crawler and X. All the Mana for Mind Grind & etc.
    4. The Mimeoplasm exiles Etched Oracle and X. Deck somebody
    5. The Mimeoplasm exiles Fungal Behemoth and X, plus Altar of Dementia or Phenax, God of Deception. Deck somebody
    6. The Mimeoplasm exiles Simic Manipulator and X. Steal some stuff and no take backs.

Side question if Mimeoplasm comes in as a copy of Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider does he get double counters?

    Interesting.

The fact that Kaldra was annihilated during the creation of the fifth sun, however, makes this an "alternative history" card...

Tbf Wizards barely even know's their own history. I wouldn't be surprised if they are having to relearn everything after people have been giving them grief for getting things wrong. That or they errata them away like the Tezz book.

Also Moons of Mirrodin. Not suns. I still hate everyone calls them suns.

LotR is getting an entire set, so there's no way it's like Godzilla. You will now regularly be playing Commander games against Gandalf and Bilbo. Bummer.

How dare you sir! It is not Bilbo, Bummer! It is Dildo Bugger and the great Goodgulf Greyteeth master of the mystery magic of Legerdemain!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bored_of_the_Rings

But in all seriousness I wish they didn't make straight sets of alternate products but 'Magic' versions of it. For example a pokemon themed magic set that didn't have actual pokemon but played on the idea of what would pokemon look or play like in MTG (Obviously it would be a Level-up set). I couldn't care less if there was a John Wayne magic card but I would love a wild west themed magic set. I can't remember but there was a tcg around wild west with black magic voodoo, deadlands or something.

Other than the Jin which I know will be mythic, none of those other rare cards seem impressive. I just don't think the U walker is that good either. Returning creature to hand sorcery speed never seems worth or even good, it is also -4. If she had a sick ultimate I would care but she doesn't.

So far these are very disappointing spoilers.

So this is 9 mana version of Worldspine Wurm...

So by saving 2 mana and being colourless you get no trample, -6/-6 on the creature, tokens get -2/-2 each and it doesn't shuffle back into your libary, no it exiles it self to get one more trigger out of it.

As if Worldspine Wurm even saw play in edh....

What is funny is I am more mad about this than my 3080 gpu that still hasn't arrived yet.

At least I getting my GPU and it will be better than anything currently on the market for the same price as a 2080Ti. WHILE Magic products keep getting worse and worse value for money.

Well considering how unimpressive what we've seen so far with them is, theyve got a lot of work to do to avoid a disappointing year

I guess I feel much differently than you do. Many of these, in my opinion, easily replace a basic land in most EDH decks and that deck instantly gets a little bit better. Having a relevant spell in the late game, or a land in the early game, is huge, considering the nearly-zero opportunity cost of running it in a land slot. This is especially true for the mythic versions which can ETB untapped for 3 life. But any of the relevant modal spells could easily become commander staples IMO.

I will say I always run Price of Progress, Anathemancer and other nonbasic land hate. I run Wave of Vitriol in all my green decks even my 5 colour decks. So I welcome all the people who want to cut out basic lands from their edh deck for non-basics. I welcome it with a great big smile! Grin

EDIT: I have even been know to destroy up to 10 lands with just a single ghost quarter in one game of edh.

Its a shame he is so fat. You will only get roughly 5-6 triggers before you kill an opponent with commander damage.

Couldn't they make him a 1/1 with hexproof too for the same costs?

Great this card doesn't reflect the old Kaervek the Merciless in any way.....well done wizards....
I mean his head is literally on fire and he uses fire magic. Yet no where on his card do you get the sense of that.
Does look like they made the card before thinkning who could it be and just slapped his name on it and went "Done, good job everyone!"

In other news, Ascendant Evincar is just better, cooler abilities and slightly bigger butt for 2 mana more.
This set just looks so bland.

EDIT: I know its a core set but don't forget, the good Sorin, titans and Omniscience all came from coresets. Same one too I think.

    Hi,

Are you tired of edh players winning turn 2/3? Do you wish games could go longer than 5 turns? Aren't you tired of having to reshuffle your deck after not even getting to cast one spell? Well look no further! Here is a cycle of cards that are intended to prevent players from ruining the fun before it even starts!

    white mana white mana
    Sorcery
Each player chooses a non-basic permanent on the battlefield. Exile all permanents chosen this way.

    blue mana
    Instant
Join Forces - Starting with you each player may pay any amount of mana. Counter target spell unless it's controller pays X mana , where X is the total amount of mana paid this way.

    black mana black mana
    Sorcery
Each player chooses a card name. Each player reveals their graveyards, hands and libraries and exiles all cards with the chosen names. Each player shuffles their libraries.

    red mana red mana
    Instant
Exile all spells and abilities. For each spell or ability exiled this way, its controller creates three colourless Treasure artifact tokens with " tap symbol , sacrifice this artifact: add one mana of any colour to your mana pool."

    green mana
    Instant
    Escalate green mana
    Choose one or more-
    • Creature cards in exile, graveyard and libraries can't enter the battlefield until end of turn.
    • Each player gains shroud until end of turn.
    • Life totals cannot change until end of turn.
