Does anyone else find the new http://mythicspoiler.com/rix/cards/journeytoeternity.html really interesting? I'm planning on trying a build with 4 sakuras and 4 fulminators in the main on friday, Perhaps a grave titan or 2 to bring back.
Either use it to ramp out larger deathclouds or the planeswalker package.
Or to obliterate their manabase with fulminators and then take out the last few basics with a deathcloud.
Hi guys! I too will be playing GR Tron at GP Copenhagen and therefore have 2 small questions;
Is life from the loam the answer to all the land destruction that has been showing up or is it simply not worth it?
And secondly, now that the modern meta becomes more and more combo heavy, how come slaughter games is falling out of favour? Are the combo decks simply too fast or?
I would say drop the gimmicky cards (Staff, Restock, Life's Legazy, Nissa's Expedition) and include courser and caryatid, otherwise you're just stone dead to aggro, you will propably also need some x for ones such as Bile Blight and Drown in sorrows.
I agree that the gift package could use a tuneup, for instance going 1 path, 1 go for the throat, 1 snappy, 1 damnation and 1 supreme verdict? I really like the suggestion of including snappy as a part of the gifts package!
Which problems would you imagine running into not having the academy ruins as you state that it is so important?
And do you consider liliana fits so little that you wouldn't play her at all? Cause I have considered just running thirst for knowledge in that spot, but I really like lili as a card and she can certainly be powerful in some matchups
I have had surprisingly few problems with the manabase so far, except for bloodmoon making it slightly awkward and a single game against scapeshift where I lost because I couldn't find a white source for rites. I will propably end up cutting an inkmoth and shift the rocks a bit to allow for more white sources.
Caleb tried out souls and ended up cutting them because they didn't do enough in his oppinion, but I haven't tried them out myself yet so I am not entirely convinced that they should not be included either
As for the cut of Tezzeret is because the artifact count in this version isn't nearly as high as the others and he is more of a backup / alternative wincon than the centerpiece of the deck as I see it
I have been working on a gifts version along the lines of what Caleb from ChannelFireball has been working on, but taking a more black route incorporating liliana and discard spells and it goes as follows:
The sideboard is still a WIP but I have been liking it in testing so far, won most of my matches against twin, affinity and merfolk. Scapeshift is a very tough matchup, gets a LOT better after board though but still loose most of my matches against it. Any suggestions would be most welcome as I am still not very experienced in modern. Thanks in advance!
This combo would be far better with Gideon Jura as he actually has a worthwhile ability to use even if his loyalty counters keep getting reset ( -2: destroy target tapped creature). So with Gideon Jura, Quicksilver elemental and Deadeye Navigator you would have UU1: Destroy target tapped creature, I suppose that isn't worst but it seems like quite a bit of a bother to set up
I also agree that this is by no means a turbo aggro deck, it is an aggressive midrange deck at best
I would cut (for starters):
-1 Legion's Initiative
-1 Assemble the Legion
-1 Purphoros
-2 Iroas
-3 Deicide
propably also some Legion Loyalist for more relevant creatures and skynights for chandras as suggested above (Also because of the far greater synergy with Purphoros). So:
-2 Legion Loyalist
-4 Skynight +4 Phoenix
and exchange those for creatures featured in the RDW decks (If your plan is in fact to be an aggro deck that is) something like this with the 10 spots opened up above:
+4 Rakdos Cackler
+4 Burning Tree Emissary
+2 Firefist striker
Have you tried out the new Ajani? You might be playing too mana instants and sorceries in this deck for him to completely work out, but it seems like a potentially more solid draw engine than chandra
I really like the idea of these kinds of decks and have been brewing a bit on it myself as well, personally I would exchange fate unraveler and possibly also the doomwake giants for Archangel of Thune as it as preeetty sweet interaction with both coinsmith, nyx fleece ram and blind obedience. Such as -2 giants -2 unraveler, +3 Archangel +1 Banishing Light (would also require more plains in the mana base tho).
Archangel of Thune is pretty fun with the coinsmith and the ram ^^ would cut 2 Atheros and an underworld connection for 3 archangels. I would prepably also try to find room for some downfalls by cutting some amount of maggots, aegis and sphere, one of each would allow for 3 downfalls. Good luck with it! Brewing something similar and it seems to be doing quite well! ^^

So Thanks a lot on the last minute advice! Life from the Loam was sweet and slaughter games would've done nothing
