Are you completely sold on running talisman of dominance over pentad prism?

Playing Abzan against Grixis Death's Shadow should I be siding out my discard spells?

Putting together an abzan list and had a question.
    My local meta is:
    1 grixis DS
    1 titanshift
    1 living end
    2-3 burn
    2-3 affinity
    1 mono white humans
    1 eldrazi tron
    1 merfolk

With my local meta being so aggressive should I avoid putting together a Dark Confidant build? I like the idea of playing with him, but have a feeling it wouldn't be the smartest move. The only build I truly want to avoid is one that includes mishra's baubles.

    Thanks, guys.

I guess Dark Confidant is (really) risky against Burn and in a lesser degree Affinity, Humans and Merfolk. But if you run a number of Scavenging Ooze and Collective Brutality main board I guess you would be fine, go with 3-2. Casting CB with 1 or 2 times escalating feels really good! Additionally, run a split of 4 Inquisition of Kozilek and 2 Thoughtseize, so you won't hurt yourself as much. Finally, I'd run 4 Fatal Push. Still some number of Path to Exile, because you want to be able to remove the bigger creatures in Titanshift, Grixis DS and EldraziTron. Lucky for you they're the minority in your local meta! You could also consider running Siege Rhino, I know it's the top end of the curve and whenever you flip it with bob you take 4, but when casting it you only loose 1. On the flip side, when you just draw it naturally you can cast it and basically you play a Lightning Helix.

Also, another Bobzan Midrange took a top 8 spot. This time in SCG Modern IQ Middletown. His list:

Hey, thanks for the reply! I should point out that I am 100% okay with going a different direction than Bob. Something like the GP Vegas list that runs Hierarch. It seems like people are jumping on the Bob train and I want to make sure to buy into the right list to start. I currently only have 1 bob and 1 hierarch, so it's about the same price to go in either direction.

Keep in mind that budget talk isn't even permitted according to the sub forum rules. It can dilute the quality of conversations which is why they have a budget forum available for this kind of stuff. I personally don't think it's an issue because most of us can discern the difference between optimized and budget decks.

"Decks that are fast enough for us to want to clear on turn 3 are handled by flaying tendrils and in the case of counters company, flaying tendrils is just the best board wipe we can bring in the matchup at any mana cost as well."

If the objective is to simply improve the abzan company matchup then I agree that tendrils is the way to go. But last reckoning may be a good compromise between tendrils and damnation where it comes down turn 3 in the matchups you need, but is still reasonable against eldrazi/shadow. That flexibility is why I think it could be a good sb card.

Not just the abzan company matchup, but also the affinity, humans, dredge, elves and other aggro matchups tendrils is better than last reckoning and damnation.
Which matchups would you need a damnation on turn 3 instead of 4? Merfolk is already one of the best matchups we have. I can't really think of any other matchup where turn 3 wipe with that drawback is better than a turn 3 tendrils or turn 4 damnation.

I've been playing flaying tendrils in the side to take care of decks like counters company, affinity etc. I can't imagine last reckoning being the better of the two against those decks.

Decks that are fast enough for us to want to clear on turn 3 are handled by flaying tendrils and in the case of counters company, flaying tendrils is just the best board wipe we can bring in the matchup at any mana cost as well.
Some mix of flaying tendrils and damnations(2/1 for me currently) is vastly superior to last reckoning imo.

Hoogland's deck is horribly unoptimized ><

He says a few minutes in that it's not his decklist. He's just playing a deck that someone asked him to play when donating.

How many Mox Opals would you guys run in a list without any baubles? Not counting Opals I have 18 artifacts in the main.

THIS is what an on-color answer to Stony looks like Smile

Stony silence affects all artifacts, not just your opponents.

Leyline is pretty good vs death's shadow since it limits their ability to interact. If those three decks are a significant portion of your local meta Leyline is definitely worth considering.

Thanks for the reply! They are definitely a large part of my meta. I will give leyline a shot in the sideboard next week.

My meta has a lot of burn, valakut and DS players. Do you think it would be worth throwing leyline in the sideboard? Is leyline even good against DS?

Recently ordered all the cards to put this deck together. I've been reading and watching as much as I can about it to prepare me for Modern night next week. I haven't gotten a hold of a comprehensive sideboard guide, if there's one available. Anybody know if one has been written up?

    Specific matches I'm curious about:

Abzan CoCo- Willing to look into any sideboard cards to give me an advantage here

    Burn- I have witchbane orb

    Titan shift-again, witchbane

    8 rack-and again witchbane Smile

These 4(especially coco) are the decks that I would be very interested to hear how to sideboard. What comes in and what comes out.

    Thanks, guys!

What are the chances they add a new type of ban where they don't allow two different cards to be played in the same deck? For example, Stoneforge mystic is now unbanned, but cannot be included in the same deck as Batterskull. Or preordain is now unbanned, but can't be played alongside grapeshot etc.

Would this convolute the banned list too much?
