What do you think about the new red God ?
    Hazoret the Fervent.

It seems pretty good to me and also very reasonably costed at 4-mana for a resilient 5-power hasty threat that is also a good blocker (indestructible) and can pitch useless lands (or moons) to deal damage.
    I really like the card.

Big fan of the new god! Seems like it could be a strong 1 of in grindy games. I like how swift a clock it can be, and I like that it can turn Scrying Sheets into more real card draw, rather than just smoothing draws.

I really doubt Jace is actually more powerful than Liliana of the Veil, New Chandra, or Ally Gideon. I think he's as strong as any of those cards, but he doesn't seem particularly stronger based on what I've seen from him. He's more of a value card than Gideon, sure, but Gideon is a hilariously faster clock while still producing considerable value and doing a similar (or better) job of protecting himself.

I don't think JTMS should be unbanned, as he wouldn't fix the format, and I'd rather look at other blue cards to potentially help. I'd really like to see Preordain in the format. I think storm would need to eat a ban, which is fine, and I don't know that it'd "break" any other deck. Ad Nauseam is already so consistent that I doubt upgrading Slight of Hand would make the really strong deck "stronger enough" to be anything other than a fine tier 1/tier 1.5 deck.

Years ago, I played a Psychatog/Upheaval deck that I loved. Combo/Control is where my heart is.

During RTR standard, I played Sphinx's Revelation control, which was a pretty satisfying couple of years.

Now in Modern I play Grixis Kiki Control as a combo/control deck that plays the resource game and tries to win with Kiki/Deceiver Exarch or Snapcaster/Manland beats.

I like the head-games that become possible when almost your whole game is instant speed and reactive. The role you play as a control mage where you're there to stop your opponent. I like the combo potential because when you're ready to close the door, you're shutting it fast and even when you're just about dead, you sometimes find a way to just win.

Now that WotC seems more willing to print playable control spells again, I'm looking forwards to better countermagic especially.

That deck sounds so sweet. Grixis Kiki just seems awesome.

That is a sweet decklist. Doing something different while keeping the strongest pieces of Jund in place.

If Leyline is giving you fits you could look at siding another card to destroy enchantments. Depends on the decks bringing it in. Against decks you want to kill ASAP taking a page from burn and playing a copy or two of Destructive Revelry destroys something while pushing you towards a win. Where as if it's a grindy deck I'm with Flying Delver in saying Pulse is good, and playing another could be worth it. Not great with your Blood Moon plan though.

I'm also unsure if 1 Forest is enough. It probably is, and I'm aware you don't play any spells that need 2 green. But having access to a second might be worth just considering.

Also, did you miss Decay in the main? Having no removal for Ensnaring Bridge, Chalice, ect. in the main seems like it might be rough, as well as missing the maindeck enchantment hate against Boggles. It might have been fine for the metagame you saw, but do you thing it's a card you'll wish you had? I suppose it's also really hard for you to cast through moon.

The primer seems to imply that Ashiok does something against decks with Leyline of Sanctity. It's worth noting that if the opponent has Leyline Ashiok can't uptick, and thus will never reach her ultimate. She's not the sort of card I'd want to use against Leyline.

IS anyone else testing Walking Ballista? I'm curious about hearing some results on it, it seems like a very interesting card for the deck

I'm playing a pair in the maindeck. I really like it. Helps bolts reach a little bit further early on, is a great late game mana-sink, can combo kill with Koth, and can be deployed by Chandra's +1 to protect her right away.

I'd say it seems pretty horrible against aggro and combo, but I really do like it against midrange and control decks.

Hey guys, I'm putting burn together soon and I have a few sideboarding questions.

    1) Do you guys like Molten Rain? Is it worth playing a few copies, or is a 3 CMC card often too awkward? If you had a few in the side, when would you bring them in?

    2) Let's say you expect an ungodly amount of Chalice of the Void, from Eldrazi Tron for example. Is it worth playing Artifact destruction at something other than 2 CMC? Something like Shattering Spree to specifically get past it, or is a better plan to just be as fast as possible and hope it doesn't lock you out?

    3) How necessary do you guys find Path to Exile? Other than removing Firewalker, when do you value it? Do you bring it in against Tarmogoyf decks? Eldrazi decks?

    4) Do you think graveyard hate is absolutely necessary? If so, for what match-ups? If I was playing any, I'd want to play Rest in Peace because the only matches I want grave hate I want the strongest hate that exists. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to me like it'd be worth the loss of time and tempo to dent the opponent. I either want to further our gameplan, or cripple their's, and I like Rest in Peace more for that reason.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Molten Rain is expensive and awkward to cast. You'd bring them against big mana decks (maybe even Jund because locking them off of a color is worthwhile), but it's only good if you can hit it on turn 3 and that's tough with so few lands. I think it's better to just race them instead.

I'd rather play DRev. If they have a chalice on 1 and a chalice on 2, you're up a creek without a paddle even if you have Shattering Spree.

I bring in Path against decks where there are things I can't remove otherwise and decks where controlling the other player's board is important (CoCo combo for instance).

I used to not play any, but I think it's important now because Death's Shadow is flavor of the month. I think Relic is the best grave hate card for Burn. Against DS, tapping it every turn will slow down their Goyfs and Traverses, and you can draw a card off of it later. Costing 1 mana is a virtue, too.

I'll point out the Shattering Spree gets around Chalice because it copies, and you don't cast the copies. I'd also never not play 4 D Revs. I'd just play 1-2 Spree in addition.

As for graveyard hate, I'm really torn. Relic cost 1 to play, but it costs another to stop the deck. If their off to a fast graveyard start, it really needs to be 2 mana. Although I suppose it sneaks under discard easier than Rest in Peace. I really do like Rest in Peace in general though. I guess I'll have to test some games with both and see if one grabs me over the other.

I play elves and used to play GWb Little Kid because I like to run over players trying to do cute things.

Now I'm really into UW Control because I just want to cast Ojutai as many times as humanly possible. Dragonlord Ojutai is one of my absolutely favorite cards of all time.

I liked playing against control decks because they were tough games that I often won. I like proactive midrange decks so it was sweet.

I do really enjoy control mirrors though, miss those.

The fact that people don't think this format is diverse is hilarious. This is absolutely one of the most diverse standards we've had since Battle for Zendikar came out.

I like the idea of conditional 3 and 4 mana sweepers (Radiant Flames, Incendiary Sabotage, and Languish being good examples.)

I also like 5 mana sweepers like Fumigate.

My problem is cards like Avacyn, Selfless Spirit, Spell Queller, Smuggler's Copter, all at once. It makes removing things a nightmare. Add to it that Aetherworks Marvel let you flash in whatever you want endstep, and it makes boardwipes really tough to play.

Have any of you guys playing this deck thought about sideboarding a few copies of Brimaz, King of Oreskos/ Geist of Saint Traft? There will be some match-ups where you need to turn the corner faster, like Tron, and I think those are your best options. I feel like playing 3-4 of those cards and 3-4 Spell Queller out of the sideboard could allow a very slow deck to become much more aggressive post-sideboard, which could give you significant surprise factor.

Don't complicate things too much. A few simple steps will probably make you better at the game.

    1) Play more magic.

    2) Be respectful at all times.

    3) Relax.

    4) Think.

If you follow those steps, you'll find yourself improving at the game, having more fun, learning more, and just doing better. Also people who think 50% if a bad win rate are hilariously inaccurate.

I'll talk about my deck this weekend when I have a chance, but I just want to complain about people playing Anger of the Gods more lately. It's so obnoxious. It makes me want to run 2 Anafenza, The Foremost not because she's amazing against Dredge, Abzan Coco, and the mirror, but because she's got 4 toughness so Smiter isn't the anger resilient early game play.

I'm totally fine against the card post-board, but it's pretty annoying to see people playing 2 copies in the main deck.
