You can do some incredibly convoluted grindy lines with Ballista - stuff like using Mistveil Plains, an active Emeria, and Ranger in your bin to tuck it back into your library every turn, search it back up with the Ranger, and cast it for X=4...

I don't want Looting to go, mainly because one of my two favourite decks in the format (Mardu Pyromancer) is using it in the fairest case scenario. When I'm just discarding two Lingering Souls to Looting, it's a good card, but not broken.

But I feel like I might need to take one for the team.

On second thought, Urza is better than I initially imagined. He costs deceptively less than 4 mana since his Construct at least pays for U, kind of like Teferi, Hero of Dominaria or Wilderness Reclamation. His Unexpected Results is overcosted, but more of utility/flood prevention like Tasigur, the Golden Fang than something you want to gun for every game.
I was always imagining Urza's last ability to basically be non-existant except for an "I win the game button" with Thoptorsword, as that's the fist deck I can see him getting payed in. He allows for infinite mana with Thoptorsword, so you can use his ability to hit new Karn + Lattice and lock the game. The opponent won't be able to remove the lattice and you can win on the next turn with your infinite creatures. Beyond that it's just a manasink if you have absolutely nothing else to do.

Or, with infinite mana you can exile your entire library including a bunch of cantrips, counterspells, and either Jace, Weilder of Mysteries or Labman.

Nobody really hyping up Urza because they want to lock in their copies at a reasonable price first? Laughing

I hate this card for a weird reason: with infinite mana, this card wins on Magic Online on the spot but not in real life.

It's the shuffle your library part, plus you can only play one land per turn. Four horseman problem basically.

No, it wins on the spot in real life as well. If you shuffle your library once and exile the top card with his ability, your deck is still randomized - a judge will let you shortcut it by going shuffle, exile until you're done, and then proceed. The same thing happens with Minds Desire in paper.

Since it's "until end of turn", not at once, the lands thing doesn't even matter, too.

    Well now, this looks decent!

It's no Baleful Strix, but flash is surprisingly valuable.

Krasis is like a Primeval Titan that doesn't win you the game the turn you play it. Hard pass.

I'm not personally big on Blast Zone, but I'd need to see testing before I made a decision.

Have the visceral fear that this new mulligan rule will allow Amulet decks to pop up again in our lgs.
I hope the new rule, does not make Amulet decks too strong..

As an Amulet player, me too. I don't want my baby banned out from underneath me again.

I think people are focusing way too much on the 50ish reprints and not nearly enough on the 200ish new cards.

That's probably true, especially in terms of what cards will actually have impact on Modern. But we can't really speculate on new cards because they're, well, new.

We can speculate as to what reprints we'll get.

If Karn is real I'm... unhappy.

He's a one card combo in big mana decks. 4 mana Karn, -2, get Mycosynth Lattice, cast it for 6. Enjoy not having lands! Grin

Library might also go into a Dredge list - if you're using a replacement effect instead of drawing (which Dredge is), you don't have to pay any life or put cards back, you just get to do it three times.

  • posted a message on Which decks are terrible matchups for Amulet Titan?
In general, Amulet has a lot of problems with any deck that can consistently play faster than it. Storm, for example, is a pretty bad matchup.

Right now, the majority of Modern does not have the same power level of tools, to fit into a paradigm of Xerox vs Prison.

Really? We've got Phoenix as Xerox and the Whir Prison deck as Prison - while Whir's metashare isn't anywhere near Phoenix's, it's still considered a very good deck and continues to put up results.

I'll just keep playing Amulet Titan, I guess.

If Faithless Looting does get banned, it plants Ancient Stirrings firmly in the "best Modern card" category once again (as it was during KCI). Even if it's safe now, I don't think anything is ever fully safe. Frown

Man I'll just keep playing with the cards that they give me - if they ever knock me out of the format I'll just play Highlander full time.

I'm amused that Phoenix is considered unfair, while Splinter Twin - despite also winning on turn 4 and being powerful - apparently isn't.
