Do you have a sideboard for this?

I wonder if there is room for Sai in this list. It's just a great tool to turn your do nothing artifacts into at least thopters when they are cast and can let you sac excess artifacts to redraw cards. I have been extremely impressed with him in decks that run an excess number of artifacts.

I don't think NDE works with Arena. NDE has an "intervening if" clause and so it will only go on the stack if you have 1 life at the beginning of your upkeep. I'm no judge though so I would double check with your local judge.

This, if you are not at 1 on your upkeep NDE wont trigger to win you the game.

When the deck isn't killing on turn 3 it reminds me of Amulet Titan and Twin in that while it doesn't actually kill you on turn 3, it sets you up to have 0 outs for the turn 4 kill so while you aren't actually dead on turn 3, you are effectively dead.

Can someone explain to me how Wild Cantor and Insolent Neonate are used in the deck?

So we determined Wild Cantor was ultimately unnecessary but both cards were in the list to get us out of situations in where we wouldn't normally be able to combo. Neonate for example helps us if we get both Revielarks in hand. It also helps us if we assemble the natural Seer/Double/Reviellark combo while it's in yard because we can rummage through our deck til we find Mogg Fanatic or Hulk.

Hey, I think this was played on Hoogland's stream the other day. He played Exatraz' b/r version but since it didn't have a lot of card selection, it performed poorly over the course of the league. Are there any changes you've made to the deck to improve the card selection issue?

I've put together a grixis version, prioritizing cards like Taigem's Scheming and Izzet Charm in my build. It's far more classic in that sense. I've been running cold, but the deck feels generally quite consistent at doing what it wants to do. Anybody having success?

Meh, Hoogland also had a run of bad luck and he 100% punted away that last match against Titanshift. He failed to identify that he shouldnt have made his 2nd land drop intentionally and it cost him. The deck in all forms is currently in not a great slot as people move to surgical and Leyline of the Void in response to Bridgevine. Also UW is now running MB Relic FWIW. If Hoogland hadn't made the mistakes he'd have ended up 3-2. IIRC he also cost himself a win earlier in the league but it was like game 2 IIRC and so he'd have to play a 3rd game still.

Dredge Decks Broken Again....Color me Surprised.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves... this is not a Dredge deck. It runs 0 cards with the mechanic Dredge.

Marshall brought up a great point when talking about the Vengevine deck, that it's Faithless Looting that looks like almost certainly the best card in modern. Considering how much it enables busted graveyard strategies time and time again, I'd be surprised if someone at Wizards wasn't at least looking at it.

That is fair though I'd look at it after Ancient Stirrings.

It's still yet to be seen if it's consistent enough. I think everyone can admit that dude had 2 nut draws in a row and like with a lot of modern decks, nut draws are tough to beat (especially for spirits which is slow and clunky)

I've been in this camp with SFM for a while. If any deck could run it, maybe UW control could because they can take their time and then on the bright side, maybe they close out games before going to fricken time every round.

Back to back Turn 3 kills from this BR Vengevine deck. This deck seems like the real deal. Stitcher's Supplier means there is a chance we might have past Dredge deck all over again.
First game, he won via Stitcher's Supplier milling over Bridge from below, Bloodghast, Vengevine and having 12 power into the battlefield on turn 2.
Second game, it wins on turn 3 through Rest in peace!!!!!

Oh my God, those things should not be acceptable in Modern, especially through Rest in peace.

Pros might have put Modern into the pithole again, needing multiple bans. Sad, sad, sad.

Pros didn't do this. This deck has been a thing on MTGO since M19 came out. It's just been a question of it's been consistent enough.

I'd kinda rather see Brightling acting as the fair white deck finisher than stoneforge...it is doing work in legacy.

Legacy and Modern are vastily different formats though. Brightling would in fact probably be unplayable in Modern.

That's super fair. I also think that is a reason to play UW Control over something else right now. Dodge your bad matchups and your good matchups you should be able to stomp through. I know for this Modern PPTQ season I have been advocating that my team doesn't play fair interactive magic. Most are on KCI and I've been bouncing between various liniar decks as well. We've had 2 people make the top 8 of each of the 2 PPTQs so far (including a 110 man one last weekend).

Damn! A 110 person PPTQ? By seeing your location, I believe it too. You live near the Moxboarding House, Cardkingdom?, and Wizards headquarters.

It's funny. On my team, our main advocate was telling us all to go KCI, but from what I gather recently, he is testing UW now. One of our team members won the first PPTQ we played in, while I got 8th, and 2 others missed it. But this was a … 16 person PPTQ. Biiiiiiig difference. This particular place caps, although most other PPTQs locally are 32-64 players, capped. (California)

Yeah, stores cap based on space here so both the ones this weekend cap at 64 but we have a few large stores. Last weekends was 110 and I'm sure we will pass that at MBH this year. You essentially have to preregister to at some stores or you wont get in. The Seattle area has a lot of tier 2 grinders too. That'd be grinders that go to a lot of GPs, occasionally make the PT but aren't perennial PT competitors. We do have a few ofcourse that are very well known (Gerry T, Randy Bueheler etc.). Cedric Phillips and Kent Ketter moved out here pretty recently as well. FNMs get interesting when you are just hanging out and then get paired against someone like Gerry Thompson though. He's a nice guy though so it's always good times. Our meta is pretty heavily skewed to midrange and control decks on the whole. It's strange but because most of us like interactive magic, we know how to play against it very well and that is a reason we are avoiding it this season. Also not all the stores in our area have AC (like the one last weekend) and you'd rather not have to play to time every round.

You know what's really sad about that metagame snapshot. Where is highest fair thoughtseize midrange deck? Mardu at only 3 people in the room. Just wow. If that isn't a testament to how poor it is to interact in this metagame idk what is. Like even UW Control is just literally packed to the gills with answers and tends to go to time a lot because they don't have good wincons. Just ew.

Luckily we will actually get ALL the decklists of EVERY player by the end of the weekend, so we can see exactly what they're up to. But I wouldn't be surprised that the UW decks are just a safety valve for the other two decks. This gives them the flexibility to sure up their good/predicted matchups and then simply hope to dodge the bad ones. When you don't actually have to win all your matches, these decks can be a beating. Probably why they're popular in team formats.
