So I haven't played this deck but I am kind of cautious of it. The 4 copies of living end end is odd when you don't have that many creatures in the graveyard and the full playset of 4 electrodomiance and 3 as foretold. I would think you could just get away with electrodomiance and goryo's and not need as foretold.

Ok, I kinda agree on what you say about the As Foretolds. It often feels weird to sit back for a whole turn with your enchantment/s in hand while thinking that an instant speed Electrodominance will get you there.

But, I strongly disagree on what you say about Living End and being low on creatures. This particular shell doesn´t rely that much on board presence and evasion (well, good old Grisel though :D). You only need to reanimate a Grisel (permanently if it´s via Living End) or a Jace, or Deceiver + Kiki to make it. It also has many other different lines, discard Kiki on turn 1 or 2, playing Exarch on turn 3 tapping them out (ideally) and Goryo´s or Electrodominance + Living End on turn 4. It´s not like your gameplan is cycle, cycle, cycle into I put a 5/5 Hexproof a 4/4 Flying and some other creature for lethal in 2 turns. Here your plan is to do something broken, either Deceiver + Kiki, Jace and flip it (not as weak play as you may think) or Griselbrand and draw 7 + the next turn I´ll do it again.

However, I feel like Ancestral Visions has a very low impact when playing it. I´m not sure if Discovery // Dispersal (or some kind of cantrip/graveyard filler) will make a better job here. Worths my testing.

I just wanted to point this out, this deck 5-0 and I know the goal is to get phoenix out but the shell is very similar. I just thought the electrodominance and goryo's would be enough and as foretold is overkill. I can see the deck above having some sweet lines with kiki-jiki but i can see like 2-3 living ends max. Would wheel of fate be a more interesting card then ancestral vision or both in the deck?

I'm currently on a 7-0 tear in friendlies with the deck. I am torn about wanting Tolaria West; but it feels like it absolutely has legs.

To be completely honest, I don't know if I want an "always enter tap" to the battelfield land in a 19-lands build...
With all the looting effects and the Goryo's plan I've never felt like spending a whole turn transmutting for LE.

But that's just my one of my first impressions with the deck, it does need much more testing Wink

I agree; that is my number one hesitation. However the utility is high enough that I'm inclined to test it for a few leagues.

Well, then let us know with your results! Grin

I've seen some lists that don't run Vials, but they usually play Simian Spirit Guides and sometimes, Chalice of the Void (which is not a well positioned card on this meta, IMO). Maybe it could work, but you'd probably better make a bunch of changes on the list. I'd probably take out the Flickerwisps, for example, as they are not nearly as good without Vials.

I would totally disagree with you on the chalice of the void and it's position. This card is in a great place right night, it wrecks burn, bogles, living end, jund, 8 rack and storm.

I play the colorless eldrazi deck with serum powders and the chalice on 1 destroys decks. I have been tearing it up lately with this deck and usually when a new set comes out aggro picks back up meaning chalice is huge.

I played this deck this week at my modern Monday night event and this deck tore threw everything. My only loss was due to UW control with some lucky terminus off the top.

I think this deck is in a great spot till some more combo decks come out.

So I have been tinkering with a deck a little and played a few games, I actually won a handful with the deck and I think there is some potential. This is the updated list,

Besides coming in from the GY they don't really have much in common in terms of deck construction as the Phoenix wants to etb without paying its mana cost whereas Demigod needs to be hardcast at least once requiring the full 5-mana.

I was just thinking if you are running discard spells and can get enough them to trigger arclight or use ramp spells once they are in the graveyard.

Curious to hear what the Arclight versions are trying to solve. The deck loses to 1) clock+disruption and 2) GY hate. Adding the arclight package doesn't seem to help either cases

I was just curious if you can pair them together for more damage if something happen, it doesn't work well in this shell.

[quote from="Yamar »" url="/forums/the-game/modern/established-modern/aggro-tempo/221596-ubx-mill?comment=2444"]I've found the same... playing against Phoenix and Storm are relatively easy matches. Spirits - both UW and Bant - have not given me issues either. Humans seems to come down more to finding a quick Bridge and/or them not using a Mage to lock us off of it. Only decks that have given me trouble in the last 3 weeks are BG/Rock/Jund builds and hyper-aggro decks like Goblins/8-Whack and Infect. Been thinking of adding in another mass removal option or two for helping those like a Ritual of Soot or such.

But I had forgotten how much fun it is to play mill. And this new build even feels/is competitive against many Tier decks at this point.[/quot

yeah I have struggled against Jund/BG rock these past two weeks. My FNM decks have had more this decks pop up and the mill deck has been struggling. I mean they are close game and a couple of them I was able to get them down to 1 card in the deck but it wasn't enough. That was why I was trying assassin trophy in the deck but I think the UB version is just more consistent.

So I am going to run this deck tonight, it is basically a U/B mill deck I ran last week that did very well but with a splash of green. The turn 1 inquisition followed by a surgical or trap followed by surgical was so powerful. Well here is the deck list if you are interested.

So you think the new card Simic Ascendancy could be a fun win con for a Scaled Affinty Shell? I just fell like a Arcbound Ravenger is a great card for this.

You have a pretty decent match against Lantern, even more now with Mission Briefing I would say.
Mesmeric Orb is a must deal card for them, and it even gets through Witchbane Orb.
Any mill you get through puts them very behing, you can draw 3 with visions, shuffle quite a ton with extractions and fetches and field, etc...

Mill definitely is favored against Lantern, it's just Witchbane orb and Academy Ruins that could be somewhat annoying. I like to play 1 of Ipnu's Rivulet since it is a useful little mill when flooding or needing to activate Shelldock/Visions, but it's also instant speed milling to break soft locks like Academy Ruins.
If you're too worried about Leylines/Orb you can always play 1 Echoing Truth maindeck, or some Manic Scribes that mill without targeting.

I understand what you are saying but with the lantern plus codex shredder they are pretty good at getting the needed cards off the top of your deck. For some reason, I am just struggling with that deck. I know things differ from every card store but I may try a different angle like Jace's Phantasm for sideboard for that deck.

How does this deck beat lantern? There are a few people at my store that plays lantern and I can never beat them. With Witchbane orb and Leyline things are rough. I can see a sultai version being an option or an esper version but the black version of the deck runs so good right now.

just out of curiosity, would arclight phoenix work in a griselbrand deck shell? I have never played the deck but I was thinking there are good ways of drawing cards and discarding. I just thought maybe it would be a decent idea and curious if anyone has toyed with that idea?

Any consideration to maybe a single copy of Craterhoof Behemoth? Seems like it would be an excellent win-con to tutor with chord once you have 11 creatures or mana.

A single Grand Abolisher effect may be nice to prevent disruption when comboing off.

Also your deck has 28 creatures that are under 3cmc, so I think it has the creature density needed for collected company, if you are open to taking out the chords in favor of something else.

chord gives you a tap outlet, and alot of the creatures dont have a enter the battlefield ability
