I know when this card was spoiled that people were thinking of a jeskai ascenadany style of deck but what if you put this in a amulent titan shell or valkut concept. I love to see a concept of Sylvan Awankening with the card Sylvan advocate, then basically ramp lands out for the win. I would imagine for a g/U or a g/W or bant colors would probably be the best. Then you can have a backup with Primeval titan.
Hello everyone, I am still insisting on the monoU version, and I have always obtained excellent results.
I'm seriously thinking about playing the next GP SP (BR) with her.
However, I need to get more bad-match so I can get a better view of how to deal with them.
In the last FNM I made 4-0 with no problem in the following match:
So I tried this deck out for the first time, I ended up going 0-4 with this at my FNM. Every match went to 3 games so I can't say it was bad but this deck seems very slow and I am thinking 3 field of ruin is a little much for this deck.
What I played
A real Living End deck, 1-2, I won game 1 with a surprising Bokjuga Bog then he was just faster the other matches
Bushwhacker Zoo: 1-2,just way too fast for this deck
Mardu Pyromancer: 1-2, he was just more resilient and I never drew a as foretold to set the combo off
8-whack, 1-2, just way to fast for the deck and piledriver is a pain
I think in a control format this deck is pretty good because you can set up but I think it lacks the number of cycle creatures compared to the other living end decks. Plus they have more ways to being resilient
I took this deck for another test run at my local FNM and went 3-1 again with it. I told myself if that night went well that I was gonna take it to the open in Dallas or classic on Sunday but some family plans came up so I had to miss it. Friday night I did end up beating Burn, boggles and humans that night but I did lose to R/G eldrazi. That deck stomped me and I never had a chance, but I will say my deck was drawing really bad during this games. I always thought obligator was a great card and I even gave it a shot in this deck by changing a few of the lands but I don't think the timing was right.
I will say that all night people kept stopping by my table and watching the deck do its magic. I even had a few people say that they wish they could take the deck to the open but couldn't because of the gemstone cavern price spike and that card was all bought out in the Dallas area.
my opinion about adding one cavern of souls is not worth it. I think I would rather take a land tool box over over one cavern. I think that card needs to have multiples in a deck to make it worth our while. Between all the serum powders and deck filtering, a 1 of in this deck is not worth it. I use sea gate wreckage all the time and my favorite card is grounds because I can put my eternal scourges back in exile to get them back on the field or pump a mimic. That land trick is awesome and always catches my opponent off guard when I do that.
Man, removing black is easy. The first changes I am making, probably permenently, are removing my 2 savage lands, 2 frontier bivouac, 1 swamp, 1 bit blast. I'm putting in 4 field of ruin and 2 nahiri. This puts me to 39 lands, which is almost certainly still fine.
I am looking at the vivid lands I'm running as the next lands to cut for things like the temples.
I have been lurking at this forum page and I'd love to see a new updated deck list. I have never played this deck before but it looks super fun
Chalice gets a reprint (albeit at Mythic), might see this deck pick up a little. FWIW I think 1-2 Cavern of Souls is a pretty good include in the mainboard.
I also agree with this, I think cavern of souls needs to be in the deck.
Just thought I give a little update from my FNM results. I haven't played this deck in awhile since I have been tinkering with a Abzan Blink deck for fun. Well I ended up going 3-1 with the deck,
Match 1: Jund won in 3
Game 1: I was able to chalice on 1 and 2 then shut him down, win
Game 2: he beat me with a goyf, lost
Game 3: chalice for 2, then beat him with creature, I was able to guy shot his lily, win
Match 2: R/W Burn lost in 3
Game 1: bad mulligans and just bad luck, lost
Game 2: cake walk for me, win
Game 3: it was close, but he got me with a eidolon, lost
Match 3: R/W burn won in 2
Game 1: chalice for 1, stabilized then swing with thought-knot and smasher
Game 2: powder twice, mulligan to 4 then back to back temple with chalice and thought-knot for the win, this is where practice comes in mulliganing
Match 4: G tron, won in 2
Game 1: powdered three time, stayed aggressive with creatures and ghost quarters for the win
game 2: chalice for 1, aggressive with creature, I was able to dismember and block with endless one then dismember the deathtouch 3/3 wurm next play
Overall this deck felt really good and I think it is in a good spot. I figured I'd see more jace decks but I saw more jund around. I will say the new ponza variant may be a pain but we shall see
Just wanted to give you my two cents with the deck. I ran the standard deck but the only thing I ran in the sideboard was a additional gut shot and spellskite since I don't have surgical extraction.
i always liked polymorph in a blue/red shell with through the breach, remands, and cryptic command. dryad arbor was great too and turned all your fetches into a token source.
Yeah I always liked the U/R shell and adding indomitable creativity with the deck
I had the green leyline to offset the bitterblossom life drain then the additionally life gain from the tokens. It is pretty sweet with linger souls
Its your only green card. Its a terrible topdeck. The effect on the game isn't that big and you can find lots of good life gain in White. I like Auriok Champion for that purpose. Its a better card, it effects the metagame with so much Death's Shadow and very similar life gain. Occasionally, the body will make some difference, and if you add a PIP matters subtheme...
That's just my thinking.
Sorry I haven't responded since I have been traveling for work but I understand what you are saying. I will try it without it and see how it plays out.
So I have played this deck quite a bit and I have actually had some good results, I went the pillowfort style but I am thinking I am going to test out more of a creature control variant. Let me know what you think of this list compared to the pillowfort variant.
I know technically this isn't a pillowfort deck but it seems to play like one. I might be going the wrong direction but I have had a decent win rate with this deck. I have been able to beat burn, affinity, Lantern, storm pretty easily at times. I have struggled with Tron a bit and decks like merfolk because of lack of interactions. I could probably use some help with land if someone like to help but this leyline deck is a blast to play and I hope to take it to a FNM in the next few weeks.
i think the new list is way stronger than the previous ones. I know it feels bad to leave cards like eternal witness behind, but the sheer value that the latest list can generate is frankly impressive - i mean, how many times are you blinking Siege Rhino in a single game?
ah, that manabase seems solid (i like the two horizon canopies a lot, it prevents you from flooding), is there space for a Gavony township in your opinion? Not really synergistic with the blink plan but i can't think of a better land in the abzan colour scheme to generate additional value.
Please, let us know how it turns out to be, and if you find any configuration you think is better!
yeah this deck is pretty solid from playing it on cockatrice. I have gotten the chance to blink a rhino multiple times its solid when it has to get around leyline of sanctity if it played in the opponents deck. Sometimes I miss the aether vial but it is a hit or miss to be honest. When having it drawn late game is rough when you want vaule
I love this kind of strategy! if i might suggest you two cards that could be interesting, they are Eldritch evolution and Cloudshift.
In general, the deck seems solid to me, especially the second version, but the mana curve is a bit high and in my opinion you'd need to work a bit on that (i guess you'd need a bit more 1-drops and 2-drops.
Since you added panharmonicon and a mana dork (are you sure birds of paradise isn't better?), i'd take out aether vial as it doesn't seem to me the deck that best uses its effect. Having 23 lands + 4 aether vial is a bit of a nonbo especially if your curve is pretty high. I suggest running 23 lands + 4 mana dorks and free up 4 slots for cloudshift, Eldritch evolution or some other forms of value creatures (i'm thinking about eternal witness, renegade rallier, kitesail freebooter, voice of resurgence etc.).
Also, why did you go with 2 shocklands for each colour combination? given the fact that you run fetchlands, shouldn't 1 of each be enough?
I have used cloudshift in the past and it was great, I just ran out of room and Eerie Interlude allows me to flicker the whole board if needed. I have never thought about eldritch evolution and it seems pretty saucy. I may try that card out a bit, at least 2 in the deck.
So I ended up taking panharmonicon and felidar gaurdian out of the deck, the curve was too high and slowed the deck down. I know the aether vial helps the resilience of the deck but I may cut it to see what happens. It doesn't really speed anything up becuase most of the deck is 3 and 4 count.
Kitesail freebooter is nice for control but I really like the card draw from the elvish visionary offers. Eternal witness and renegade rallier is nice too but then 3cc in the deck is stupid high.
Maybe a shell with this concept
4 Amulet of Vigor
Creature
3 Azusa, Lost but Seeking
4 Sakura-Tribe Scout
4 Sylvan Advocate
2 Primeval Titan
3 Explore
4 Search for Tomorrow
4 Sylvan Awakening
So I tried this deck out for the first time, I ended up going 0-4 with this at my FNM. Every match went to 3 games so I can't say it was bad but this deck seems very slow and I am thinking 3 field of ruin is a little much for this deck.
