I've recently played what appears to be the deck's worst matchup in "UW Control", after having T4: Creativity X=2 into Ulamog+Emrakul the Ulamog got Path'ed and on his turn the Emrakul got Supreme Verdict'ed leaving me without actual win-conditions (after having one of the best possible opennings I could have).
I've also been losing to random creature decks (Rats tribal, budget RW allies) that have managed to race me despite comboing off or stubmling for a turn.
I'm beginning to think that having only two finishers might not be enough and that Ulamog being susceptible to Path is too much of a liability.
Maybe I should switch to: Emrakul, The Aeons Torn , Emrakul, The Promised End and Progenitus ?
I thought about the Dragonlord Kolaghan option too but if I flip him alone it doesn't seem good enough.
As far as SB options, what about Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur ?
Might be pretty good against control if it can be resolved, not sure if it is better than Iona, Shield of Emeria here but both can be used.
I know how you feel, but to be honest supreme verdict would of hit all those creatures. I think jin-gitazxias would be a interesting card for the sideboard. That is why I mentioned Ensnaring bridge, that card can be be game changing and shutting decks down, just something to think about. Dragonlord is a nice plan B option, another card that be interesting is inferno titan, that clean the board pretty well and can do some damage. If you were able to hit multiple those, its like a miniature version of annihilator, and can be sacked again for another creativity or poly polymorph
Sorry I meant to post this past weekend but I was pretty busy, so I figured I try out the mono red version at my FNM, I did go 1-3, I never got 0-2 during the matches and the deck was quite fun. I will say U/R is probably stronger with the card draw. So the decks I played, 1-2 vs Doran deck, 1-2 mono white pillow fort deck ( he nevermore indomitable creativity, game over basically on game 3), 2-1 kiki jiki deck, 1-2 affinity (these games were very close and grafdigger's cage beat me but I almost beat him with goblins lol.
So my takes from the deck,
Spawning Breath was really sweet in almost every matchup, I was able to ramp creativity or madcap experiment a lot fast or I was able to use it for sacking for more creature. It was huge against affinity and kiki jiki deck.
Madcap was cute but not enough, platinum emerpion was nice touch for stalling the game out but not game breaker, I can see running one in the deck and one emerpion.
Faithless looting was great for getting the big fatties out of my hand, just sucks with emrakul and Ulamog because it shuffles back into the library.
Khalni's garden is cute but not needed, I was always color screwed for need red mana, between running for blinkmoth nexus ( just because I don't have 4 mutavaults, plus I have
plenty of tokens for ground blockers so I figured I have options to block in the air if needed. Like inkmoth nexus in the affinity deck, they can't beat platinum empeion, so they
have to go in the air.
Dragonlord Kolghan was huge once, I would recommend running it in the deck.
Iona, Shield of Emeria was great in the pillow fort deck and won me the game, I landed a progentis and here. Since she doesn't target you opponent, leyline doesn't work.
Progentis was alright, I still rather have something else, I never sided in worldspine wurm.
Warping wail was actually pretty huge, it destroyed walls, killed affinity creature and set up mana ramp
If run the dragonlord, grixis colors may be a good to run, gives us bitter blossom and board wipes to make the games go longer.
also I know its not a creature but we are wanting cards that are game breaking and slow our opponents down, ensnaring bridge is game breaking and pretty much shuts down decks.
just an idea
Everyone that I played just laughed at the deck because there was a couple goblin decks floating around and they thought I was playing goblins till the big fatties came out. They also thought the deck was like a poor mans tooth and nail deck lol.
my goal was to at least win one game and I did, I am waiting on my scalding tarns for me to build the u/r variant right now. I have been playing colorless stompy and I needed something fun to play.
So have looked at using the card madcap experiment combo instead of using polymorph? Madcap would allow us to hit platinum emperion. I just saw a mono red version of this deck played on youtube by Matthew Orletti
So I took the deck again to the FNM and went 3-1, I have been pretty consistent at going 3-1 with it. I 2-0 Grixis control, 2-1 Ad Naseaum, and 2-1 Deathly shadows, the game I lost was to Abzan company and went 0-2. I usually don't struggle with that deck but the cards weren't flipping my way. I did change the side board a little, I added Phyrexian revoker over warping wail and pithing needle I originally had. Revoker was great in the ad naseaum deck. I able TKS the ad naseum, chalice for 0 and revoker simian spirit guide which stops the combo. The deathly shadow game was awesome and pretty much won with blinkmoth nexus, with him destroying his life total and using matter reshaper for the defense, I would just chip at his life total and win, plus chalice for 1 helps. The guy playing deathly shadows is a very good player and has top 8 a lot here in the local Dallas tournaments. He was very impressed and he was just laughing when I kept powdering and getting more aggressive hands.
I would say this deck is really good and needs more love, it has it's holes but after playing it for about a month, I am learning what to keep and not to keep. I still think the sideboard will always be changing. I still only have 3 chalice so copter takes the one spot. He didn't get much play this past week but it has come huge at other times.
Maybe Goyf fits better in your decklists but in my version with maindeck Relics and not many card types to feed Goyf I prefer Scavenging Ooze as my non-Eldrazi creature (I want to keep Ancient Stirrings as good as possible and not run too many colored spells) and it also provides utility (more GY hate and some lifegain) and works well with Eternal Scourge (which I see that you aren't as high on as I'm).
I want to test out the Scrapheap Scrounger idea as well (in place of Scooze) as it gives me more Ancient Stirrings hits and recursion while starting at 3-power to help pressure the linear combo/ramp decks.
Has the Eldrich Evolution ever been used in the Green variant of eldrazi?
Torrential Gearhulk is a control finisher (recently adopted in "Blue Moon") but I don't see how it is relevant here.
Correct. Whatever is cheated out needs to be a game ender. That is the point of the deck in my estimation. I can say I've thought about Urabrask the Hidden as a compliment with Emmy/Ulamog for the Haste it gives to Emmy. But it would only work with Creativity and 2 targets and not Polymorph. And it would be too easy to "whiff" into Urabrask. For my list the current need seems to be how to cast the combo at instant speed on opponents end step. Just too much removal out there for tokens to disrupt the "combo". I think I will go -4 Mass Hysteria and +4 Quicken in the main 60.
Have you ever tinkered with craterhoof behemoth, it could make tokens lethal if we have multiple tokens out.
Well I played this deck last friday, I ended up just running 1 smuggler's copter in the deck since I am short one chalice, and copter actually won me 3 games. I don't have a list on how the games went but I beat Abzan coco,Abzan Junk and Valakut/Scapeshift and lost to Valakut/Scapeshift. Every game went 2-1 besides the last game, I will say after playing this deck multiple times I hardly ever cast scourage from exile. I know the point of it and little combo but it seems to be a little cute. I will say the 4 matter reshaper is alot better than the endless one in the deck. The games copter won me were huge, I know it just depends on the meta but running at lest one in the deck is huge. Well I had a good FNM and the deck is fun to play when it is working. I have had nights were it seems pretty rough.
Haven't watched the videos but the deck stumbled and went 0-6. He comments about it whiffing too. Hitting a Hierarch or Bird or Carytid is just flat out bad. I'm going to say it, Creative Polymorph DOES NOT WHIFF/MISS. Sure it can be countered or interrupted, but if it goes off a big game changer is going to hit the board. In NO way would I want to add that to this deck. I think he had some bad luck and I think it could be refined more with some different cards.
Back to Creative Polymorph…
Swan Song will be in my SB as a 3 or 4. Not only does it counter to protect your combo there is the rare case that if Night of Souls' Betrayal is on the board, you can cast your token sorcery (or another I/S/E), counter it with Swan Song and get a 2/2 bird for yourself. Fighting through the -1/-1 to get a token to combo seems really good. I'm thinking a 4 of right now.
I feel like game 2 needs another wincon like elspeth or Geist. I played a few games last night against a creature zoo deck and I wanted board wipes and elspeth was huge once he landed a a cage. I played a blue tron deck and I got wrecked.
so that was a interesting concept but I feel like faster the combo goes off less likely your opponent has a chance to answer it. I do like the concept of just worrying for a turn 4 morph and having options like nahiri as another option.
Just curious, I know we are solid on the creature ulamog and emrakul but would you ever thin k grave titan would be interesting, he enters the battlefield making two extra tokens, for future morphs or allows us to go wide. If we added black, ran bitterblossom instead of krenko's command, a little hand control and the maybe grave titan.
I know how you feel, but to be honest supreme verdict would of hit all those creatures. I think jin-gitazxias would be a interesting card for the sideboard.
