Has anyone tried karn, the great creator in the whir slots in the newer versions of the decks? seems like it would make a decent 5/6th urza while also doing a similar job of whir, since it can grab bridge, sword, foundry as well as clock of omens for comboing, mycosynth latice, etc

been testing ravager/sly req as well, but something that I was thinking about while checking over deck results and such, would tireless tracker be useful for us? since it can more or less spit out clues to use, I know as a whole we have mostly been focusing on a bridge strategy with few creatures to blank our opponents interaction, im just wondering if it might not be better to start game one with thopter/sword and a wide variety of 1-2 of silver bullets, and some efficient creatures like tracker and glint nest, maybe even smugglers copter, and then game two we can adjust with like, more bridges and jaces if we expect stony, or a more aggressive strategy with ensouls for big mana. I don't unfortunately have any tournament results to back up my thoughts at the moment as its mostly been play testing with some friends and their modern decks, but just food for thought.

So far from tests ive done, tireless tracker ends up being just a little bit slow, they are alright in grindy matchups, but doesnt help much otherwise, but the arcbound/req has been very nice as it can just come out of nowhere.

shame we dont have a green/black or green/blue talisman

I know its not really the direction we are looking at the moment, but has there been any testing using Sly Requisitioner? the body is a little questionable, but the effect seems nice with sword of the meek, mishras bauble, as well as some other occasionally cards like nihil, im just wondering if it would be worth it. it does also go infinite with arcbound ravager/grinding station and the sword, which while not something we would normally play, is not a bad card of course. Im probably gonna do some testing with it in the near future but wanted to know if anyone else has done any testing or had expirience with it.

Thinking about what radouf said about possibly playing altar of the brood, while i like it as an additional wincon for things like infinite life gain, and it does work well as a cheap artifact for whir, I also think there may be something to it as while some incidental milling might not win us the game, it certainly makes pithing needle and surgical better, for seeing what our opponent is playing, and letting us surgical things we wouldnt normally be able to easily get in the grave, like tron lands and such. So i think there may be something to it.

Bringing my last post over for the new thread:

    Hello Again,

Haven't posted in a while, but wanted to show what I'm currently using as in most of the testing i haven't seen many trying to use vehicles, though I've been having pretty good luck with them so far, as they are already good on their own, but with tezz - they just always have their effects. im torn between heart of kiran since its so nice with tezz - and aethersphere harvester to get some inconsequential lifegain when I don't have thopter/sword on and lower crew cost.

I'm using crane instead of whir in this version since it relies less on the thopter/sword to win and can also crew the copters. The scrap trawlers are a little win more since they work very well with the combo to let me go infinite with 2 opals, or just be a fake necropotence with mishras bauble, and just value with welding jar. most of the time it just crews heart, or dies and gets me a thopter foundry back. the 1 of hope of ghirapur is in there to slow down noncreature decks, can perma silence with academy ruins and tezz, or with scrap trawler and sword combo till I can close the game out.

As for the sideboard most of it is pretty straight forward i think, the time sieve keeps getting swapped around between cranial plating, time sieve, and aethersphere harvester, and the extra bridge in the side is for if iI'm actually facing a creature and removal heavy deck and feel i need it, its usually brought in with the spellskites to help protect it, but the 2 and 2 welding jars in the main are usually enough.

Mostly looking for opinions and suggestions on it but ive been having a pretty good time with it, and have been doing fairly well at least at modern events at the lgs.

Im really hoping for a one blue sorcery/instant that makes 2-3 clue tokens, both as a way to ennable metal craft potentially for opal, stoic rebuttal, and dispatch, and also for tezz ult. 1 mana for 2 investigate isnt really unbelievable, its pretty much just a reverse think twice

It is true, that if they turn 1 inquisition me and then turn 2 they decay the post, that does suck, but they also havent acctually played any sort of threat at that point, which would hopefully give me time to recover, and depending on what i have in my hand still at that point it would be possible to recover, like i said thats also the main reason i was thinking of upping the count of spellskites/welding jars, as just throwing welding jar out works as an answer almost like executioners capsule does, where the threat of an answer is there sitting on the field.

the borderposts do get hit by a lot of hate, im not gonna lie, but the artifact lands from mirrodin are weak to artifact destruction to just as an example, but they would likely be played in modern if they werent banned, not to mention with 3 mana you can use them as a ramp spell at that point.

Dont get me wrong im not saying they are optimal by any means, as they both do artifact land, and artifact ramp poorly given other options, but they also do let metal craft get turned on easily and can be sac'd to thopter foundry for blockers if i need to protect lili or tezz on the spot.

i feel like if they use a remand or decay on my borderpost instead of the ensnaring bridge or liliana i would be ok with that honestly, im not saying i want either to happen, but if its gonna happen id rather lose the borderpost.

thats also what the welding jar is for, ive been considering putting either a second one or another spellskite in as the jar lets me hit metal craft faster, the other thing i was considering was mishra's baubles but i dont know what i would take out for them.

Honestly by itself no probably not, that was just what i had together on my desk at the moment, and im honestly gonna probably swap them out to test path to exile and tidehollow sculler, to see if it would be worth trying to do flickerwisp tricks with. since i could either path it for a land, or sack it on the stack to thopter foundry

It was mainly white for the sideboard for things like leyline and enchantment removal because the biggest drawback to the borderposts is stony silence, obviously id rather avoid it hitting the field at all, but having a way to get rid of it once it does is nice to.

Alright so, i havent had a chance to read through the whole thread yet as i just found it, but im currently trying a version using the borderposts from alara, im currently trying an esper version but it could just as easily be grixis.

Ive found that with opal it doesnt acctually put you behind since metal craft is on soon, and with a decent hand can turn 2 lili or in a red version blood moon, to the point it could even be main decked since it doesnt affect it at all because of the borderposts and opal.

Biggest thing with grixis i want to test is the ability to use the borderposts and ghirapur grid for damage.

Was mostly wondering if anyones tried a list like this recently, or if anyone has any opinions on it.

Current version im working with, but im also testing grixis as well:
