Just another cute note, they're not dropping a patch to the beta prior to open beta release but they're supposedly making changes.
I guess they don't understand how PTRs work or realize that it's probably a good idea to test your release before it goes wide.
    Maximum Effort.

They are doing their best to destroy the LGS's ability to make any profit from their game at all. They sneakily raise prices but don't change the MSRP to take money from the stores, make deals with Amazon to circumvent the stores, try to sell a product exclusively themselves to cut LGS out completely, then realize 'oh GP attendance is still going down, lets let Ch Fireball have some to sell to pull people in', and Fireball is screaming because they're barely able to make a profit off of events anymore while LGSs are still cut out of the loop.

They are doing their best to screw themselves. Eventually game stores will stop holding events if they can't make any money off WotC products.
It's like they're trying to screw up from all different directions at once.

FYI can anyone else confirm that they said that they are working on a non-rotating format for the game? I heard about this from several channels across twitch and youtube recently and if they are, that could explain why they brought back the two best land cycles outside of fetchlands, which I don't think we are ever seeing in this game.

They've said lots of things in a general way. They have no idea what they're going to do. They'd have to create a new format since Kaladesh is as far back as what they've programmed. Arena modern? No thanks.

I hope players who don't have LGSs near them consider grinding instead of paying to play this game. They shouldn't be rewarded for this cheap, Hearthstone imitating, clunky, poorly planned mtg product.

The animations are nice sure, BUT many of them are clunky and poorly timed and have been for multiple releases. They don't seem to care to polish them.
Tapping land is horrible. HORRIBLE. Look at an MTGO stream and how fast that old OLD software taps lands then look at Arena tapping, which is slow and heavy, and tell me they've done a great job. They lessened the 'whack a mole' but didn't get rid of it completely. Autotap should be removed from the game it's trash and players need to learn to play around it (tap partials then let it do the rest when you are color safe). Tapping lands, the most basic thing in MTG is clunky and poorly done. Apply that to the rest of the game.

Currently you buy packs to create a 'collection' that you cannot trade, sell, or dust to move forward. It's a money grab to not let you manipulate or 'own' your collection. Worst decision ever. All they need is an auction house and they'd make 10x the money they're planning to make off this cheaply developed game. They still don't have a plan for 5th copies of cards!!!!!!! So buying packs you get a 5th copy and the old system of a 'vault' progress is still there but HIDDEN. HIDDEN FROM VIEW!!!! Vault progress was a lame system but hiding it without a solution at this point?? Open beta without even a proposed solution to this??? Just wow.

I can't believe they think it's time for open beta. Please don't invest cash in this game. Just grind it if you like it people. Matchmaking in Bo1 is manipulated so you only play decks your deck is 'rated' the same as. What's this rating system you ask? No one knows they won't say. Just be sure to know you will play mirror matches and the same 2-3 types of decks they've 'rated' based on ???. That's the only free play mode of the game. With the crap timer you could PAY to play Bo3 but good luck there as you can get roped (time wasters taking forever with EVERY TURN) and have what should be a max 40 Bo3 into hours. That you paid to play. They still don't have a solution for NoF chaining without a win con since you can't call a judge you get to sit there while they chain without being able to win.

    Awesome right?

There're always people willing to pay. Even for an incomplete game like Arena as people are spending money on it already.
For cards you don't get to own for trade or sale or dust.
They're going open beta this month and they STILL HAVE NO PLAN FOR 5th COPIES of cards. Astounding. That right there tells you the lack of foresight, money, and creativity pressing forward with Arena. It's not ready for open beta but they're going to push it out anyways because they've got people willing to spend money already and the game's not even done.

Timmy's makin a game come pay him to play it.

Broke. This become 8 cards that either draw or face burn? Against aggro both of those decisions kill you just about as fast.
    Pushed jump start card.

If you're playing Bo1 your matches are manipulated. They have a mystery 'rating' system for your deck and when you Q Bo1 you are matched against another deck 'rated' the same as yours. That's why you get mirror matches and see max 3 types of decks every single time you play. Yes boring as hell and not the way mtg is played. You brew and make your decks vs a meta and then play in that meta. Match manipulation COMPLETELY destroys the whole brewing part of MTG.
Bo3 is unplayable with no time limit and ropers wasting your time to get a free win.
They're hyper focused on monetization and nickel and dime strategies instead of putting out the best game in the best way possible.
Everything from sloppy UI to choppy animations and really poor prize allocation for events make Arena not worth it. Not even to play for free.
Which is sad because with more brain cells and common sense put into their development the money would just flow in.

Design at WotC isn't helping them much either. When you play a couple times a week 3-4 games you can say 'bad meta' and not think about it too much. But when you have the opportunity to play every day and many more games per day you realize how far off the reservation design has gotten and really how bad standard is for the past 3+ years. It's great that the abomination that is Kaladesh block is leaving but if they're going to keep making the same mistakes...

All they really had to do was allow trading and SELLING of cards in an auction house where they take a piece every trade and every sale and they'd be in micro transaction heaven. They could have many free play events and a few (well rewarded) pay to play events all with chess clocks and the game would just take off. But no, skinnerware pay model and crappy programming is what we get. Beware and don't waste your money here, move along.

    Chase rare.
Pushed this block UR and BG big time. They'd better print some GY hate in this block if they've 'learned their lessons'.

The other problem with a crap rip off product like this and WotC is if they feel it was a 'success' they will push it further and make it bad for players. There's no question about this... see Nexus of Fate for reference.

Please don't buy this trash product. It will not be worth more.
    It will not be collectible.
It is a distraction from a company that needs to be getting back on course and not jumping the shark.

Seeded/guild packs slow down getting the event started.
Don't really help you as much as it seems they would.
Weren't liked by the players but hey, someone at WotC likes them so here they are again.
    <golf clap> yay wotc

Lets hope we get the other cycle out in the next set since they skipped it last time so they could put them in MM.

They'll just reprint Rancor or something so everyone will want 4.

I think it's sad that as customers we just accept that a standard legal card isn't included in boosters as the new norm.
WotC, proving that instead of making things better, we can keep sticking it to you.

To the Op, the destruction of standard started about 3 1/2 years ago now where the design model for standard was intentionally changed from overall card balance to a new fancy 'print cards people want to buy' and nerf counters and kill spells because 'no one likes their fatty countered or removed'. Standard has been falling apart and a dumpster fire the whole time. Thus the bans, the lack of participation, the utterly crappy standard metas we've seen since.

    Thanks Maro and team.

They still haven't sworn off all this philosophy. It's why we're still seeing the pushed cards and why they still resist ban hammering them. They like to say 'lesson learned' but it looks more like 'lesson interpreted the way we want to'.

Promos out then in, rotation shortened then walked back, don't play on Friday play when we want you to, 40+ dollar cards, Kaladesh (nuff said), BaB disaster, it's like they're trying to screw themselves but really they're just bumbling while trying to make more money for the Hasbro overlords. Sometimes you have to do things better (the traditional way) to make more money not just push out more product. This is one of those cases.
