MaRoon confirmed on Blogatog that spark harvesting does indeed kill the PW in question

Notably, he states that this is the case if an Eternal does it, which may mean that if something does it, it may me possible for the PW to survive.

Also full disclosure, I didn't like Domri much either. >_>

Don't y'all worry. The good guys (Gatewatch and company) will win and none of them will die, and the bad guys (Bolas' underlings) will lose and die... because why would Bolas kill them himself to harvest their sparks if he can get somebody else to do the dirty work for him? V=

And *after* he's powered up by obtaining the sparks of the others, *maybe* then a good guy or two may fall.

Format (or perhaps more specifically, match-up) feel is absolutely something to consider at least for Standard, because there is a precedent of Wizards doing so for a banning. I don't remember if it was for Marvel or The Promised End (or both?), but they specifically cited that even though the deck was not as out of control as people believed they decided to get rid of it anyway.

on another note that is 4 out of 5 guild mechanics known. if wizards intends to keep RNA symmetrical with GRN it means azorius should get detain or forecast.

Don't have the link on me right now but MaRo confirmed on Blogatog that Adapt was the 'returning' mechanic by virtue of being tweaked Monstrosity. Knowing this, it seems that Azorius will get an entirely new mechanic.

Last I checked, stack-ordering had not yet been implemented.

Even if Terravore is safe to print, the fact that it counts stuff in all graveyards drastically reduces its chances of showing up in Standard. Complexity and tracking issues, yada yada, you know the drill.

I know it is not too likely because of R&D's dislike of counterspells but the fact Trophy was printed as is will hopefully indicate that they are at least willing to explore the paradigm of pushed cost with heavy drawback even if it doesn't make it to print soon.

I don't know what they'd think is drawback enough for 2 mana unconditional counter.

You lose life equal to the cmc of the countered spell?
    Ramp them like Trophy?
    Enemy draws a card? 2?
    You discard a card? 2?
Lands used to cast it don't untap next turn? Lands don't untap, period?

Possibilities are endless. Hooray for BG, here's hoping the other color pairs get good toys too.

Lavinia for new Azorius leader! Do it WotC, she's my favorite Ravnican!

    ... or on second thought, don't do it because then Bolas will murder her too ;_;

Back in the day, Extended was the way people would get extra mileage of Standard favorites. It was mostly a "season" format but still awesome.

They could revive the format so existing Standard players don't get burned out of having their cards rendered useless. Modern-Extended-Standard should be the sanctioned competitive formats while dumping Legacy once and for all. As a still rotating format, Extended doesn't compete with Modern so it would be a far better idea than the damned Frontier proposal from MTGoldfish.

I dont believe it was Goldfishes idea. I think it was driven by a major vendor in Japan...but whatever.

Extended would be fine I suppose, but I have to assume that those who are into the Standard churn, like it. Extended may cast a wider net and keep people in for a bit longer if they are the types to drop out of Standard, but I would question how large the 'non-modern, current standard but would only stick for Extended' percentage would be.

This is true. Frontier originated in Japan through Hareruya, and it works (or worked, haven't kept track) there because of the unique market circumstances of the country - modern stuff is/was extremely scarce, so the new format was conceived both to boost its sales of now-out-of-Standard cards and to give people a more viable/playable alternative to Modern, not to spite Modern but because the country's circumstances were such that going into it wasn't really an option for as much people as would be desirable.

MTG Goldfish caught wind of it and started to keep track of that and publicize it outside of Japan, but it was not their idea.

i dont think baleful strix being an colored artifact creature is what holds it back from being printed in a standard set.

Don't have a source on me right now but as I recall, it's been stated as being too efficient and good at stalling to make it into Standard.

    2-mana creature-type-specific Torpor Orb?
    1 mana?

Engineered plague seems like the kind of card that would never even enter Standard. It destroys the kind of playstyle that WotC encourages for their flagship format.

I'm going to assume the Gatewatch does not approve of eradicating all civilization from the Multiverse (which naturally includes wiping out most of Ravnica), so we may have a new monogreen antagonist.

He also mentioned on Blogatog that poison counters being impossible to remove is at the core of making them feel and be different than just another life total, or something along those lines. Don't have a link to the post right now, but yes, he confirmed (either there or on his column) that he did indeed stop this from targetting yourself specifically to keep it from interacting with your own poison counters.
