Wouldn't certain deck configurations be stronger under certain meta considerations, and with different pilot playstyle/strengths? If one is playing in a meta that has a stronger affinity presence, and much artifact hate because of so, wouldn't Talismans be not as strong here? Not necessairly saying that using a Talismans would be bad in this meta, but that it might be a contributing factor for them not being as strong as perhaps another variant. I'd imagine in a slower meta, Talismans would be stronger due to them facilitating a "faster, rampier" list.
I 100% agree with you on this.

You all have some really good points. I have played Shoktroopas list on paper for a very long time and i win atleast 70% of the time if not more. In saying that though. there are only a couple of affinity decks in my local meta. and there isnt as much artifact hate. most of the decks in my meta are things like jund, abzan, american control, U/G infect, kiki chord, gifts, R/G tron, death and taxes, living end, a ton of stuff. but yeah i think omnimirage has a good point. if i were in a meta that had more artifact hate then maybe talismans wouldnt be as good and going the extra lands would be better. Like i said earlier. i think Pierakor is awesome. he has great win percentages and a good decklist. i just think that troopas list is more solid and just didnt like someone saying that pierakors list is "the best" because shoktroopa actually invented this deck and he has very good reasons for literally every single card in his deck and has talked about it at some length. none of us would even play this deck if he hadn't invented it. but yeah im biased. i run his list on paper and feel it to be the most solid.

So after lots of modern watching and looking around I've finally taken the hit and bought a mono blue tron deck. Can't wait to start playing it. Looks so fun. Got a few events lined up. How do we do against abzan company combo, rg scapeshift, living end, jund and grixis?
Hey man always good to see another player start mono blue tron Smile we actually have favourable matchups against all the decks you have named. a chalice on 0 absolutely annihilates living end and so does spellburst. and the others are all pretty favourable. Smile

I went 3-1 at fnm last night.

    Game 1 - Burn (2-1):
1st match I got tron turn 5 after condescending 2 bolts and resolved a platinum angel, his hand was empty and he scooped. 2nd match be blew me out and i died to a bolt after contortioning his guide turn 3. 3rd match i resolved a chalice for 1 and on 4 life i repealed his eidolon and resolved a chalice for 2, next turn dropped tks and gnomes.

    Game 2 - Storm (2-0):
1st match he was mana screwed, picked up his second land turn 4 and I had natural tron with a fist full of counters, I waited 3 turns but eventually drew a thirst which lead to wurmcoil. 2nd match he tried to go off and miscalculated, grapeshot me for 17, i survived and mindslaver locked, scoop. This guy didn't play well and I felt I should have lost.

    Game 3 - Grixis control (2-1):
This was the best game of magic I have played in a while, the highlight being - his ancestral vision, I remand, he remands my remand, I condescend his remand, he snapcasters for mana leak on my condescend and resolves ancestral vision. 1st match he got that 5/5 delve piece of crap out, I had a tks which i had to block with and i drew lands for 4 turns straight while he finished me. Game 2 I natural tron for the second time and resolve two thirst for knowledge, after the lengthy series of counters he is tapped out and i resolve mindslaver lock. 3rd match went to time but he scooped after i cast titan, repealed it and played it again taking out 6 of his lands - he didn't have to scoop but it was good of him.

    Game 4 - rw burn (1-2):
1st match I chalice for 1 and 2 with 3 life left, 2 gnomes out back to 9 and ugin put him down over 5 turns (he had sacked and shocked himself for 3 twice). 2nd match I got a gnomes and wurmcoil out again but when i decided to swing with wurm he played deflecting palm and I died (I was not even aware that this card existed and i was crushed). 3rd match I resolved chalice but he wear/teared it, i countered a guide but he blew me out with bolts and swiftspear.

my sb is pretty terrible but I went into the meta blind, this was my first night of paper magic in almost 2 years. I had a great time with this list because it is interactive and poses/answers many questions. As said before it requires a vast knowledge of the meta and decklists which I do not have right now but it still performed well.

right now I see no reason not to make it 4 chalice mb, I would like opinions on that as I know it is not done often - I felt it was my best card and did so much to stabilize my matches without it I would have lost most of the games i won. Fabricate is better than the mage but I was nervous about having less bodies vs aggro. I am also thinking about a second snapcaster, no explanation needed im sure but opinions on that would be great too. If anyone is even still questioning though-knot seer or solemn, it is though-knot all the way. Should i be cutting anything for cyclonic rift or spellburst?

A big thank you to pierakor, I watched all of the matches you have published and think you have the best list.
NOO WAY MAN! shoktroopas list is sick as hell man! i play shoktroopas list on paper and i crush my local meta with it! and most of my local meta is actually bad matchups for me. Burn, Affinity, Death and taxes, UG Infect, there are only a few good ones in my meta like UR delver. american control. esper control. Jund, Abzan, RG tron. solemn is definitely better in a control deck then tks he lets your opponent draw a card ffs. not only that but kharniverous/Shoktroopa hand crafted this bad boy himself. yes pierakors an awesome guy and has a good win percentage. but its still not as good as troopas win percentage and going around saying that you think he has the best list is a mistake in my opinion. he has a good list. but troopas is far more solid and i have literally won thousands of magic games with it. I won a local tournament with mono U tron in australia on friday. didnt lose a single game. I came 1st out of 52 players. and most of them were playing "Tier 1 Decks" troopas list crushes.

Gifts Ungiven is one of my favorite magic cards of all time. If you want to run gifts you have to re work the frame of this deck a lot. A singleton gifts is neat, and i've ran as many as 3 main before but its just not as good as thirst for knowledge early game. The mind banging that occurs with gifts ungiven is the BEST part of the card. I often gifts for cards that i have in my hand (i.e urza tower if i'm gripping a tower). Its awesome w/ early tron but its a turn too slow v aggro.

I would post my 5-0 list but there are some angry / mean dudesweats in this forum that will obliterate me for not formatting a deck list "correctly". I let Pierakor do all the celebrating and hype for 5-0'ing a league. I kind of enjoy myself flying under the radar like i always do. =)

it did have 3x gemstone caverns in the 75. I"ll post it later tonight. I'm about to get crinkled and stream a few 8 mans if they fire... GREEN UP LETS DO THIS!
    Your a Legend Troopa Smile

    Hi folks,

I play Blue Tron for more then a year, but had a break during the Eldrazi Winter. I mostly played in my kitchen table with friends.
So yesterday my friend told me to come to FNM.
I took my deck and finished 2-0-1
On Sunday there is a big tournament and I need some help to tune my deck.
This is what I was playing.

    BATTLE REPORT:
Blue Moon I was not familiar with Splinter Twin being banned so I kept a lot of counterspell.
First game: I won with Ugin, the spirit dragon + Platinum Angel
Second game: Blood Moon + Batterskull. Academy ruins is a mountain and after 10 rounds I did not draw anything to kill Blood Moon and apply the lock.
Third game: we went to time he was at 1 life I had around 40 the board was empty except Blood Moon, our hands were depleted.
    0-0-1 (Tie)
Abzan Company I did not knew what he was playing, I knew no blue color. So I kept a hand to assemble my Tron as soon as possible.
First game: he goes infinity life and is taped out. So I try Mind slaver him for full mana to see how to remove his board(infinity life engine online). His last two cards are Chord of Calling and Murderous redcap. I play the Redcap and infinity damage to him.
Second game: I keep a hand with fabricate and 2 tron land. I fabricate for Jester's cap remove from the game 2 melira, sylvok outcast and anafenza, kin-tree spirit. I see he sideboarded in the second combo archangel of thune and spike feeder. In response to my Cap he plays Chord for Calling for his last anafenza, kin-tree spirit. I play a Wurmcoil Engine and apply the Mindslaver lock a couple of turns later.
    1-0-1 (win)
Jeskay Restoration Angel + Kiki-Jiki, mirror breaker
He was new to the deck so I did not have a big problem.
First game: I Mindslaver him on turn 4, then play a wurmcoil Engine to seal the deal.
Second game: He made some mistakes I was lucky and Condescend his Crumble to dust on my Tower. After that he was not a threat.
    2-0-1 (win)

We did not have time to play the fourth round so I ended second.
The changes I will do are:
Move Batterskull and one Wurmcoil Engine to sideboard add 2 thought-knot seer. I think I need more earlier threat, but this may cause some problems with the number of artifacts I play. I may completely remove the second wurmcoil, but keep Batterskull, lifelink is really useful those time.
Ulamog, ceasless hunger looks really powerful with an alternative win condition, but i have no idea what to replace (btw, currently do not own it).
I also have a meh filling with spell burst. It was useful during one game. I have to playtest more.

Now guys I will need some help to tune my deck/sideboard, these are the decks I will probably see on Sunday or a part of them:
(My area is very competitive so all of those are pimped and have good pilots)
    3 Jund
    1 Infect
    1 lantern
    1 Robots
    2 Naya Zoo
1 Death and taxes W/G (very good player)
    1 Blue tron
    1 G/R tron
    1 G/B tron
    1 Jeskay resto/kiki
    1 Jeskay Geist
    1 Soulsisters
1 B/W Tokens (Very good player)
    2 Naya Burn
    1 Abzan CoCo
    1 U/R Storm
    1 Blue Moon
    1 Elves

Thank you for your help and sorry for my English, it is not my first language.

    Matsu

Definitely change the mana leaks for remands. and i dont personaly use tks its good but i just think there are better things. wurmcoil definitely being one. tks will not make this an aggro deck. because its not. its a control deck that ends in a hard lock. i think solemn simulacrum is much better then tks. i have started play testing with Newlamog and he is very powerful in this deck but we have no way of tutoring for him so he is just a bomb that you can drop some games. i would also definitely put atleast 2 chalice of the void main or side. crushes things like rg tron and burn. and definitely 2 or 3 squelch. squelching a fetch land against burn is basically a win.

I was mostly using jester's cap against GR tron and Newlamog. I play against GR tron reasonably often.
Yeah jesters cap is soo powerful vs r/g Tron you can exile 3 tron lands or their 3 newlamogs. or 3 of their karns. and you can recur it with academy ruins. i also play a singular jesters cap in side. This card is beast. Im new to the forum but not to the deck. I play this deck on paper and it is by far my favourite modern deck. Shoktroopa/kharniverous Thankyou soo much for creating this deck man. it has supplied me with thousands of amazing games of magic. i watch you on twitch sometimes and you absolutely crush man Smile

    Hey guys,

I'm new to U-Tron, but I've become interested in the deck after the April update, given the rise in control and the fact that this deck goes over the top of control decks. I have a ton of cards that I wanted to play in the shell, but based on a bit of searching, I came up with this initial list:

I think this shell has my bases covered against the likes of Affinity, Burn, and Infect, not to mention anything graveyard-based (and has 4 sweepers to at least put up a fight against Merfolk, Zoo, and other go-wide aggro, which is probably this deck's worst matchup from my experience on the other side of the ledger). Thing is... I have a giant pile of cards that I'm interested in trying out, but I don't know what I would cut. The first category are mid-curve bodies like Batterskull, Bottle Gnomes, and Solemn Simulacrum. I opted for Silent Arbiter and Spellskite over Chalice of the Void and Crucible of Worlds, and I'm not sure I made the right call. I'm also intrigued by mass-bounce effects like Ætherize, Cyclonic Rift, and Displacement Wave to fend off go-wide aggro. I'm also questioning whether I even need Relic of Progenitus, or whether I should pack something like Grafdigger's Cage (or even no 'yard hate at all, but that doesn't seem right). All in all, I could use some pointers with regards to what options have been tested and found lacking. Any help appreciated.
I would probably drop a singular fabricate for an island as well. Also i would definitely run crucible and chalice of the void over silent arbiter and spellskite. Also depending on your metta i would probably drop both relics and a singular pithing needle for 3 dismembers. but that just comes down to personal preference.

It looks like a fairly solid list but I would take out steel hellkite it dies far too easily. and replace it with a second mindslaver. i always run 2. i would also take out 1 Ugin and replace it with a snapcaster mage. Smile
