Feb 22, 2013Ecophagy posted a message on Need help building deckI don't know if you're still interested in comments, but I thought I'd chip something in:i n short, the deck is very slow and vulnerable. It's a 3 card como that is vulnerable to artifact and creature hate. Looking at your "ideal sequence of plays" I notice that it is at best a turn 5 goldfish, with basically no interaction with opponents except for 3 remand and 2 path. Almost every deck can race you if your best start is a T5 goldfish. You also need +1 card to kill with, which is a gifts or one of your 4 X spells.Posted in: Void Blog
Compare it to other similar decks, namely control/combo decks: Splinter Twin and Scapeshift. The former races you with a 2 card combo, which they have 8 pieces of each, and the latter goldfishes T5 while playing disruption and cryptic command into a protected Scapeshift. Another similar deck is the Ritual Gifts deck, which is similar in that it wants to play gifts->win. The problem is that it's easier for that deck to win off gifts (Past in Flames is awesome), and again it runs more disruption and Merchant scroll for tutoring Gifts/silver bullets.
On top of that, Deathrite Shaman has made Gifts Ungiven strategies very vulnerable of late.
In terms of improving the deck itself, cut the Borderpost+Wayfarer. They don't do anything exciting at all. Secondly, you don't need so many big X spells. You're not running enough ramp for them to be playable outside of the combo, so they're dead draws (especially Diabolic Revelation). Devil's Play is probably good enough since it has flashback, or just use BSZ sunce Drift of Phantasms can find it. I'd consider cutting Gifts, since relying on it makes your already slow combo even slower.
Sorry to be such a downer, but the deck just doesn't look like it does anything as well as other similar decks -

Fundamentally, there are now three possible worlds:
- The team is exactly Proph and LW
- The team is exactly Grape and KJ
- The team is split between those two groups
The first is unlikely because a) LW is the town read I am most comfortable with and b) the way Proph and LW have interacted and read each other throughout the game would be an unreal and unecessary amount of scum theatre, especially after reading the game where they were buddies where they acted much more simply and tactically.
Given that KJ and Grape don't look great but also not that scummy, the second world is not only possible but realistically more likely since Proph was at leasta town read which is harder than either KJ or GF managed, but I am nervous about sticking with the same PoE which hasn't worked out so far. Because of my read on LW, the last world only works with Proph + KJ/GF. So not really that many options.
So the key questions for my due diligence now are: is Proph scum? And if so, with whom?
But if anyone has any doubt on LW now would be a really good time to share it.
Sure, doesn't really need to be before the deadline, LW is not on the table toDay.
I mean the "game" he's doing at the moment where he wants lists of alignments. He did a similar thing in Ballade des Dames du Temps Jadis but not the two scum games, so I was (tongue in cheek) clearing him with the power of small sample size.
The differences between Tarot and the town game are not nearly as stark as the Throne of Lies game. Compared to this game LW is still very much doing more of the Town-meta things (like aggro voting, longer posts with more thoughts), but I am now less convinced that scum-LW is incapable of emulating his town game. I would actually be interested Proph (and GF) if you guys could review Tarot and compare it to LW's town games/this game and tell me what you think.
I also noticed LW only does "alignment games" as Town. So, I guess he's lock town here?
If NK WIFOM is the only thing you have I suggest you just anti-spew now.
I was so scummy that I caught two baddies and got killed N1!
OK, I won't be here for that then since it will be 3am my time.
OK, that might explain why LW wasn't so aggressive in defense since the big posts I mentioned were directed at Aelin. And if bussing was the strategy I can see LW being less engaged/fiery than usual. I guess this is why multiple data points are important, but at least it doesn't look like he's being bussed in this game!
I will have a look through Tarot since Grape also asked.
But, are you? Or rather, you have presnted a few fronts (early NKA pairs, proposed VCA, verifying Axel's Cantrip read, the recent "game flow"). But you've not tried to unify any of these tools - I would expect you to be trying to build one coherent world view, not one disconnected world view per front.
uh, what? If you're going to say things are "agenday" you have to explain what the scum agenda is. Because I'm reading those events essentially completely the opposite to you because I can't come up with a reason for mafia-Proph to have done them. If Proph was pushing the game where he wanted there were paths of significantly lower resistance he could have taken.
At this stage I don't know what I could do that you would consider unfakeable. Very flattering of course, but it didn't help you read me correctly in Feelgood 80's Movies Mafia.
Man, was that really Axel's last scum game? It's from 2013!
I read it anyway, Axel's mafia game early was characterised by going after LHF (Guardman for being weird, Iso for lying, Kpaca for being belligerent) and kind of just focusing on one person/thing at a time. His posts were still pretty big, but tended to be "agenda-y" in that they were dealing with fairly narrow events and driving towards getting his target dead - rather than a meandering look back at figuring a person out. To be fair though, I think his posts look roughly like they would look if Town Axel saw something he really hated and wanted to get executed, just with more tunnel vision. His play there is very different to his play here, but since it was 8 freaking years ago that's not really unexpected.
So, not really all that useful. But a very fun blast from the past, lots of memories. God I am a dinosaur.
Your actions are all just disconnected and it's hard to not see them as doing Things To Look Town as opposed to trying to solve the game by using your tools together.
Am I pocketing you better than Proph? We have a competition in scumchat
